“NEVER AGAIN”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Returned today from a short break at Sandy Glade. It wasn't short enough. First impressions the park seemed nice and clean, we then went to our so called SILVER chalet. What a dump. If that was the silver I dread to think what the bronze or budget chalets are like. At least one curtain in every room was hanging off. The carpet in the lounge area was covered in dog fur, not very hygenic when you have a 1 year old crawling around. I went to reception to complain as the welcome pack advised you to do and they were about as helpful as we when we checked in, no help at all. They said they would get some one from housekeeping to come round, i'm srtill waiting. The loung area hadn't been dusted. The kitchen area is basic and the electric cooker looked old and dodgy but I did manage to cook some sausages in the oven, there was no frying pan. I had to walk round to reception to ask for one and had to borrow a can opener from the people next door who were about as impressed with the place as we were and left early. We were woken early ( before 6.00am) by the squarking birds that hang around the chalets. The site shop is only open a few hours a day, I went to buy some eggs on Saturday afternoon they didn't have any and was told they would't have a delivery till Tuesday. If you don't drive you will be stuck on the site. The bus that stops outside the site is unreliable, we waited 45 mins and it didn't turn up so gave up. It's a nightmare to get a taxi as you can't a signal properly on your mobile. The whole place is dated. The only half decent thing was the pool. Some of the reviews I read before from people saying they would be back again next year must be from the staff.

Hello Carol

Thankfully, poor reviews are few and far between and we have the satisfaction of knowing that last year well over 50,000 families enjoyed a John Fowler Holiday at our 14 holiday parks.

Nevertheless, occasionally we let a customer down and it is imperative that we make a full investigation into what went wrong for the benefit of future guests.

I shall be contacting you shortly and I feel sure that the matter will be settled to everyone’s satisfaction.

We stayed in a platinum lodge with a hot tub, it was all new, I think we were the third family to use it.on the first day we asked for a clothes horse to dry our clothes on the balcony, we got one that fitted over the windows of a caravan but no good for a lodge. We were told we'd get one on the Monday as it was shut on the Sunday. On the Wednesday asked again.we left on Saturday and still waiting.all this was put in the book at reception which was a waist of time.dont think the windows had been cleaned since it was opened. +would be nice to have some shelves in the wardrobes. BUT,WHY,WHY,WHY have a off white carpet throughout the lodge for a holiday let, I dread to think what colour it will be at the end of the season or next year even.but overall we were really happy with the lodge. With the hot tub being serviced twice a day. Thank you

Hello Lydia

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fair and honest review.

With regard to the lodge, these are brand new this year and, as with any new project, there are always teething problems. Your constructive criticism is being passed on to the park manager so that improvements may be made in the interest of future guests.

We really hope to see you again in the near future.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at john fowler sandy glade holiday park and stayed in one of the new platinum lodges. Few problems with our lodge which we went and spoke to manager Russell about, these things included hot tub needed cleaning, no towels, one bedroom door wouldn't shut, could not close patio doors amongst a few other irritations... some of these things were rectified a day after complaining - we had been out for the day and returned to find maintenance had been in. (I requested for maintenance to attend when we were there)! but anyway.. we did not see anyone again who asked if we were happy with things thereafter. We have stayed at other lodges and paid similar prices to what we paid for this one but did not feel this was good value for money. Although the lodge is brand new and lovely, there's a few things that are not quite right, for example no shelving in the bathroom - I could go on!... And it was annoying that our car had to be left in an overflow car park and was not visible from our lodge, when surrounding 'private' lodges had been allocated two spaces.

After staying at widmouth bay, and to be honest that was very poor, we were then offered a four night stay in a gold chalet at burnham on sea , this again was poor, it said that the chalets had been refurbished, this was not the case, we had a water shortage due to a leak , and the management had not handled the situation well at all , no sanitation no drinking water , until about 8 at night.

The staff in the clubhouse where great however, and the grounds where very good.

We wont be staying at another john fowler site again

Room Tip: Dont book one with john fowler

Hello Pitzey

It was a shame to read about your disappointment of your stay at another of our parks. It would be remiss of me to try to argue with you regarding to the accommodation, because the facts and other wonderful reviews speak for themselves.

The water "outage" was not of our making - a major mains breakage put the whole of the area for miles around out of action and every shop and supermarket quickly ran out of their bottled supplies. Our staff endeavoured to help by travelling to Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater, and eventually obtained supplies from Waitrose to ensure that everyone had at least 2 litres. I feel anyone reading this response would give us the benefit of the doubt.

After visiting sandy glade last year we immediately booked to return this year, what a disappointment we had! Last year we found no faults in this park and the entertainment was A* quality? This year however is a totally different story, my children were bored out of there minds and there was nothing for my older children to take part in. Even my 2 year old got bored as the entertainment time when the characters came out was far too late! Accommidation was basic but clean, bar staff were very accomidating and always had a smile on there faces! Entertainment staff however, weren't so accomidating, all most as if they didn't want to be here! I definitely will not be booking to return in a rush like I did last year, dissapointed

We just returned from a 4 night stay in a silver chalet
Overall it was ok, the tv good size, beds comfortable, good kitchen area.
I struggled with tiny bathroom as i am 6ft and the shower and sink are very small indeed. The areas need some attention as mildew and rust in areas.
The entertainment team were fantastic...really made us smile!!!
Would i stay again???
Maybe...

First of all thanks to liam, nikki, kirsty and duane for fab entertainment. Was fab when they joined us in the pool. Been here to this site for over 6 years and its been great to see the stripeys during the day. As usual chalet nice and clean. Bar staff friendly to name a couple steve and ollie and of course good old kelvin and always a warm reception from tracey and karen on arrival. Def recommend anyone staying here and already booked again to come here again. Oh and the stripeys are always up for fun with the guests even when the club is quiet providing entertainment from the young to the old with a few games.

What would be nice is if I return here next year and find the same entertainment crew as they have been absolutly fab as they have made our holiday brilliant.

Your comments have been passed to all departments, especially the housekeeping team, who will be delighted to hear your thoughts on the cleanliness of the chalet.

Once again our entertainments team have been singled out for extra praise and there is no doubt that they deserve it. They are all doing a brilliant job this year and work extremely hard to ensure everyone has a great holiday.
