“New owners - better environment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

The town centre of Burnham-on-Sea has numerous choices for places to eat covering most of the day and evenings with a variety of menu's and includes the traditional 'take-aways' and 'sit down table meals. This requires the owners to compete for the local and seasonal trade as they need to focus on attracting customers by providing a service and value for money.
Mr Beans is under new ownership with a management pedigree, and a successful history of many years experience in this type of business operating in the town. This will assist them in identifying the 'needs'of the customer' to try and encourage sustainability by offering a service to ensure people return. This venture in this part of the High Street will be a challenge and I look forward to see the way they implement changes.
Gone, are the ridiculous flimsy light metal chairs and tables, they now have wooden furniture which is safe from accidents. The room is much lighter as the blinds are raised to allow daylight in and now gives the appearance of a larger space. A coat of paint and 'subtle' back-ground music makes the place seem more friendly together with their helpful staff. It was pleasing to see that used tables are cleared ASAP to maximise every opportunity for an extra customer due to the restricted space for additional tables.
Service at the counter for ordering is quick and the staff clearly prioritise this function by helping each other when it is busy. Prices were comparable to other similar establishments in the town but the presentation, quality and quantity was better than most. The experience of the owners in the town gives me confidence that they will look to preserve a 12 month service and not adapt the prices to a seasonal 'quick hit'. Their other premises are a credit to them and well respected by both tourists and locals. I wish them well.

“Friendly eatery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Been here several times, always had good service and great food.
Our last visit they had replaced the tables and chairs inside, much better much more comfortable.
The only downside on this visit was the sausages on the cooked breakfast, they where like little tubes of sawdust !! Hoping this was just a one off as we really like this place

“Internal decor' much improved”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

I could never make my mind up about this place in the past: the food was OK ish but the décor’ was rather austere and cheap – the use of those horridly ubiquitous aluminium chairs (which torture your back) and tables being a case in point. I’m not sure if it’s changed hands but it has certainly had a well overdue makeover. The overall effect is stylish and contemporary: the wooden tables and chairs have much more of a coffee house feel than was the case in the past and this complements the food to much better effect. The food by the way was very good on our last visit - my wife’s ham and eggs, for example, was made up of real ham off the bone rather than that reconstituted rubbish you often find nowadays. A nice place to have on your doorstep.

“A seaside eatery nostalgically reminiscent of bygone days.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

Burnham on Sea, may not be a fashionable holiday destination, rather a Victorian relic, left over from a more gracious era. What it lacks in elegance, it more than makes up for in serving and caring for its visitors. Apart from a splendid beach, which affords bracing walks beside the Severn estuary, all the way to Brean Down, it has one of the only surviving and functioning High Streets, I know. This should be preserved and full use made of it, by selecting and frequenting the private businesses which are left, before we are completely inundated by MacDonald’s, Starbucks and Subway. One such excellent example is an eatery in Burnham High Street called Mr Beans, a traditional English seaside café/restaurant which serves great breakfasts, luncheons and teas in a comfortable, no frills environment, with good, friendly service and attentive staff.

So, reject the inferior branded offerings of Costa, KFC, Greggs etc. and head for Mr Beans, you will not be disappointed and you can also be proud that you are helping to preserve an English institution, which is rapidly disappearing from our High Streets.
