The totem motel is on a street parallel to the railway and main street at the front, and river at the back. It is next door but one to the tourist information centre and a few houses away from the musem.
Accommodation is in little wooden chalets. In the two bedroom unit there is a very small double bedroom (we had to leave one suitcase in the car) and a larger room with two singles and a fridge. The bathroom and front door both open onto the two bedded room. There was a rather noisy air conditioning system in the larger room, but we needed to leave windows open in the double to maintain a bearable temperature, as the air conditioning system wasn't efficient enough to cool both rooms - there was insect netting on all windows, so this was fine.
The decor was quirky - the lampshade in the twin room looked as though the plastic wrapper from the shop hadn't been removed - but the room was clean. The bathroom was very small and rather dingy although it was functional (after a little work on the cistern). I didn't find the bed very comfortable at all, but that may partly be due to the temperature.
All in all this is a perfectly acceptable place to use as a base in Lytton, a town which has a suprising amount to offer, from the free Lytton Reaction Ferry and fabulous Stein Valley park to the ospreys nesting on a pole near the railway.
