This was the last leg on our honeymoon having been round a few resorts on the Lake Shore. It was amazing. The room are great and the people are lovely, The service we loved. We wanted to be alone most of the time but the balance between mingling with the other guests and having "us" time was amazing!

Went on an evening sunset cruise, then one day went to feed the eagles and snorkeling. They have these lovely swings where you could just be there and read a book.

Cant recommend enough. If you have been to Malawi, you know that customer service is something we are in the process of mastering but the Norman Carr staff are just amazing.

When we decided to go to Malawi for our honeymoon all and sundry had one question.... Why Malawi? If they had been to Norman Carr they would hav known why. The setting is beautiful and is right on the beach. Beautiful dining area with an awesome view and amazing food. Lots of local produce and some of those luxuries you wouldnt expect 3 hours away from civilization. Taffy is a wealth of knowledge and will definately keep you entertained. Erika and Alastair who manage the lodge are always close by to make sure you have eaten enough and have a Gin and Tonic in hand.

Some of the highlights were the food, daily boat trips, village tour and trip to Cape Mclear which has the most awesome snorkeling at Otto Point. Philly, who is a local and works at the lodge is always willing to take you on a tour of his village which he knows so much about.

Overall a great experience and well worth the price considering all the little extras and first class hospitality.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Norman Carr during his 2 week visit from the US. It is the absolutely perfect place for couples to go. Well....For anyone to go! Erica and Taffy are absolutely wonderful, and the staff is so welcoming and friendly. The price may seem a little high, but once you arrive, you feel as if you are getting an amazing bargain, for everything that they provide! The food is incredible, the property is perfectly kept and absolutely beautiful, the rooms are very very nice and comfortable, and the boat cruises are wonderful. I could not thank Erica, Taffy, and their entire staff more for making Mike's and my time so special. Thanks for all the effort, and we can't wait to come see you again soon!! Love, Lindsey and Mike

Room Tip: All rooms are great...But the lake view rooms are worth spending the extra money, if they are availa...

My wife and I have stayed in hotels & lodges all over Africa and can honestly say that the Norman Carr Cottage is one of the best. Very relaxing with attentive staff and great home style cooking. We stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed every minute

My husband and I decided to head up to Lake Malawi sort of at the last moment, as we had some airmiles to use, and after doing some quick research, we decided the Norman Carr Cottages sounded great. We arrived at a very difficult time for the owner Taffy. His partner-in-crime, Jenny, had just passed away, and her daughter and some friends were visiting to assist with arrangements and for support.
It may sound like this would have put a dampener on the 'vibe' of the place, but we were welcomed with open arms and didn't feel like intruders at all. In fact, we were made to feel completely at ease, and the 'mourning' was more the joyful sort (as I understand Jenny was). Jackie, Jenny's daughter, showed us some of the highlights as she and her family had enjoyed them, and Taffy took us on an outing to Cape Maclear without hesitation, which we really appreciated.
The staff were so friendly and helpful - you only have to look up to have someone offer you another G&T (automatically poured as doubles!). Erika, who is the hostess/ manager, was always on hand to answer questions or help us in any way. The days were relaxing, with enough 'activity' (feeding fisheagles, snorkelling, kayaking) and more than enough R&R.
The range of drinks is plentiful, and the food was really delicious. It is not stuffy, gourmet food, but the divine sort that you start smelling in the afternoon and reminds you of what you wish your mom's cooking was like. You are welcome to go back for as many helpings as you like :-)
Rooms were very comfy, beds were huge and covered liberally with mozzie nets, and we are very happy with our outside showers.
Please note ahead of time: Malawi is not a first-world country, so don't arrive hoping for a super-refined experience. Instead, be assured of a very warm welcome, great hospitality and a relaxing, laid-back stay.
Allow enough time to get from Lilongwe or Blantyre up to Cape Maclear, as the drive can take up to 4 hours.

Simple but clean, well appointed and cool rooms with lovely outdoor shower. We enjoyed the all inclusive sunset boat trip and the morning fish eagle feeding and snorkeling boat trip. The food is simple, well prepared and delicious. Very accommodating and friendly staff. A relaxing atmosphere.

Norman Carr was recommended to us by some other NGO workers we met while working in Zomba, Malawi. They described their time at Norman Carr as 'just like a second honeymoon', and they were so right.

Even with our 10 month old son in tow, we felt like so relaxed and pampered in this luxurious setting. The rooms are beautifully decorated and fully equipped, including amazing hot showers outdoors! Showering under the stars or during the day under the beautiful tree canopy was truly spectacular.

The food is divine and because of the small and intimate nature of this place, it feels as if you are waited on hand-and-foot and that you are truly the only guests in the place!

The management team went out of their way to accommodate us with our infant son, and we truly appreciated all the extra effort that went into making us comfortable!

The view is spectacular and you can enjoy two boat cruises (included in the cost of accommodation) one in the morning where snorkelling is available and one in the evening to behold the breathtaking sunset.

I could go on, but really, I hope I have convinced you at this point. Norman Carr is a must if you travel through Malawi- the lake really is 'the pearl of Malawi' and Norman Carr is the beautiful gem which showcases the lake.
