Gecko lounge is situated in beautiful surroundings, serves good food (try the Spo burger), and has clean rooms with a personality. You're right on the beach, and in the middle of the city if you want to explore the curios shops or the missionary graveyard. The hammocks are great for relaxing after a long day out on the water. We stayed in a dorm, and were very happy with our stay!

This place was very relaxing, the food was good and the service was great. Nice seating areas. The bar was very expensive. The staff was friendly and pretty helpful. The only thing that was annoying were the locals trying to sell things to you while enjoying dinner and relaxing. But luckily the staff did their best to try and keep them off the property. Awesome place if you can afford it!!

From Lilongwe we drove to Cape Mc Clear in about 4 hours. The road was quite good and the scenery around the lake is beautiful. We wanted to go to Dombe Island but at that time the Island was unfortunately busy. That’s the price you pay for travelling without a booking. But on the other hand, you can stay longer where you wish or leave earlier when you feel like it. Gecko lodge has a good location with a nice lounging area and a good menu. Chalets at the Lake side are ok and the rate is very reasonable. We stayed there for two nights after having done the tanning part at the beach. Just a shame that the water around that area is not Bilharzia free. So without the option of cooling down we decided to stay one more night at Mumbo Island, just to discover the beauty of the lake under water.

I took a one week break from an overland trip at Gecko Lounge. I was in a dorm. It was great. The place, the service, the price. I am beyond my prime and was happy that the place is on the edge of town. Relative peaceful and no noisy neighbours.

We ended up staying here 3 nights and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Although the dorm was a bit dark, it was clean and comfortable and the showers were hot. Great lounge area with amazing sunset views. Food was fantastic and staff were so helpful and friendly. The dance floor even got quite packed on the weekend, which was great fun.

I stayed in the dorms here - they were comfortable, clean, had mosquito nets (although my friend's had a hole in it), there were lockers for valuables, and clean bathrooms.

The food is amazing. Easily the best pizza I have tasted in the 6 countries I've been to in Africa.

Gecko Lounge is right on the beach, the sunsets are amazing, there are hammocks all over.

It's pricier than other places around (especially the beer!), but I did enjoy the place.

Stay away if you actually want sleep so you can enjoy the gorgeous day time. Great bar and lounge set up on the beach and good rooms but totally self-indulgent DJs insist on banging music til 2 in the morning even when there's no one in the bar - a massive waste of accommodation dollars. Stay else where where its quiet there are plenty of other good options.

Room Tip: All rooms are NOISY . They say tell us to turn the music down" but they dont
