Having stayed in various backpackers around Zambia and Malawi, we were very much of the mindset of let's just book whatever is cheapest and if that's a 16-bed dorm then so be it. We were told that this was the cheapest place in Cape Maclear and it really is.
With that in mind, we didn't expect to get ENSUITE! Admittedly, this lodge has just been reopened after a long time and so I'm not sure how long it will remain at these prices but if you can get yourself to Cape Maclear sharpish, you're in for a treat!
We were so well looked after (i.e. free burgers when Noleen found out how destitute we were) and Chris and Noleen have big plans for the place so I'm very excited to see what happens to this place in the future.

On another note, make sure you take PLENTY of money to Monkey Bay/Cape Maclear, we were a bit unprepared and had to budget ourselves, luckily everything was super cheap but we could have done with extra cocktails!

We finished our backpacking trip with 4 days at Thumbi View Lodge. For a cheaper price than other hostels in the area, we had a double ensuite room in such a beautiful location. There are sunbeds you can use outside and snorkelling equipment to borrow. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. Highly recommended!

We, a Group of scouts had the luck to get to know Noleen and Chris, when we needed a good nights sleep the most. Under the national Malawian Scout Jamboree in Cape Maclear our tents were totaly destroyed by strong winds.
The owners made us feel very welcome and were so helpful, they even arranged a party for us and our malawian friends, and birthday cookies for one of our scout member. Noleen and Chris thanks you a lot for that. Your support and help is nothing one can pay for and thanks a lot that you wanted to share your free-time with us.
As for the rooms...we slept like on cloud 9, and the en suite bathroom with hot showers made us feel like reborn again.
You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work. We really want to come back again!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Tumbi View Lodge! We intended to spend one or two nights there and ended up staying a week! We just didn't want to leave. We had a double room with en suite and HOT showers!! Which were an extremely pleasant surprise on our travels across Malawi. The room was really comfortable and a really good price. Some of the touristy places in Cape Maclear were really expensive so we were really pleased when we found this place. So lovely and good value.

The owners are really good people (Chris and Noleen). They were so welcoming and helpful. We felt more like their guests than their clients. They seem to have travelled a lot themselves and therefore really understand travellers needs! We can not speak highly enough of the food! It was just so good, especially the fish braai!!! Delicious.

The beach is lovely and view across the lake is stunning. The sunset every night just takes your breath away. This was such a refreshing break in our travels. Make some time for Thumbi View Lodge and Cape Maclear! It is well worth it!

It's worth mentioning that these guys have only just taken on the lodge and the amount of work they were doing whilst we were there was impressive so I can only imagine its going to get better. We would definitely, definitely stay here again.
