We stayed here for a few nights in August and really enjoyed it. The huts are very comfortable, although the toilets and showers are separate from the huts. The huts have lovely porches and they bring you tea and coffee to enjoy on your porch in the morning. The setting is just spectacular, you can watch the hustle and bustle of the locals early in the morning or the sun go down in the evening.

For food, Tuckaways is a very short walk down the beach from places like Gecko Lounge and other little restaurants. Tuckaways does not serve breakfast but it is easy to go to one of the small shops close by and buy rolls and honey or order breakfast from Gecko Lounge.

For activities, there are beach boys wearing green vests that walk up and down the beach and offer you boat and snorkeling trips starting around $30 per person. The ones in green vests are licensed and get rotated every 2 weeks so that more locals have the opportunity to gain business from tourism. They carry laminated price lists so that you get the same price regardless of who you go with.

Our only complaint about Tuckaways was that the huts are not sound proof and it gets very noisy around 6am when the locals rise to go about their business, do their washing and meet each other on the beach. It is very difficult to sleep through this racket. However, once you do get up and sit on the porch, the stunning setting makes you quickly forget any noise disturbance.

Tuckways in simple but in a good way,
Your accommodation consists of an island style hut meters from the shore of Lake Malawi and that's it, But that's all you need,
Your doors open to the laid back life of the Lake, with kids swimming and fisherman making their way out into the deeper waters. The reception has a small selection of books which is perfect for reading as the sun goes down. The sunset from the view of Tuckaways is unlike any other you will ever see. No ensuite bathroom but lovely warm showers await you behind your chalet.
No catering either but this makes the place more quiet and tranquil, besides you can find a spot to eat just meters to the left or right of the entrance.

Tuckaways is by far my favourite place to stay on the shores at Cape Maclear, it never fails to impress. The gorgeous beach huts are always immaculately clean, the beach well swept and the staff are very friendly and helpful (even checking my room after I left and bringing me my Kindle which I always leave under the bed!)

Room Tip: All rooms are on the beach and so you always have a great room!
