“Great holiday - you get what you pay for!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013

Stayed here for two weeks at the end of August and I must say I was dreading it after reading the reviews on here! But despite all the bad press we had a fab time, one of my best holidays ever and if I was to return to Pefkos I would stay there again!
I want to address some of the common complaints I have read about.
1 - Cleanliness - the rooms were clean enough. It is a 3* hotel and so it is not immaculate, however floor were clean, bathroom was clean, beds were clean. And I am fussy! The only negative was that when we arrived the room STANK of smoke, it was stifling. I did complain and was given air freshener, I also bought some extra air freshener and we left the bedroom doors open whilst we went for a meal. By day 2 the smell was pretty much gone and didn't bother me again, (the bf didn't find this as much as an issue of me, and he hates people smoking near him!).
2 - Towels & Bedding - we did have to ask for towels after a few days as they state they change them twice a week but ours hadn't been done. Although this may be because one day the cleaner couldn't come in as we were still asleep. I did also get given one towel that was stained, but it had clearly been washed and smelt clean and new towels were given to me when I pointed this out to reception. Bedding was changed regularly and was clean and fresh. Also plenty of extra blankets were in the room, we had air con full blast and woke up cold!
3 - Air con - we felt the need to pay for it, it was E47.50 per week and we had budgeted for it as it seems to be the norm. I don't think it is fair for them to charge as I find it an essential when travelling in August, but they are just following the trend I suppose. The air con unit is only fitted in the main bedroom - we had a 1bed apartment. This meant the other room & bathroom were still hot and very stuffy. This was ok for us but if travelling in a 4 it would have been an issue.
4 - Rooms - our room was big enough and there were 3 good size mirrors. Our kitchen area was clean and we had plenty of crockery/cutlery etc. The fridge didn't seem to be working too well and wasn't all that cold, however not an issue for us as we ate out and only used kitchen for breakfast or tea, (one carton of milk did go bad seemingly quickly but no other milk turned). As I said we had a 1 bed apartment and were very pleased, however the standards of rooms seems to be quite hit and miss as other people staying seemed to think our room was much better than theirs - 183 is the room to ask for!
5 - Noise/View - We had a room overlooking the pool (as requested) The views were beautiful and we were delighted. However the noise was an issue at points. We often were out in the evening and got back when the bar noise had died down, however a couple of times we were in and the noise wasn't too bad, but at least twice the noise was ridiculous and felt like it was right outside our door. The upside of this was that there was always evening entertainment and a great laugh to be had with the other holiday makers at the bar!
6 - Pool - great size, very clean, and plenty of sunbeds. Separate baby pool as well and the deep end was very deep and great for messing around diving!
7 - Staff - every staff member I met was kind, friendly and helpful. They have great local knowledge and I found the young Scottish girl more helpful than the rep, as she would tell us the cheaper way to do things by ourselves!!
8 - Bar - good food served all day, crepes were fab (get the young lad to make them though as he puts loads of topping on) wide variety of food and drink and very reasonable prices especially if you do the 3 course set menu for dinner for E8.90 each!
9 - The Area - I now love Pefkos! It's a great resort with a great beach and some incredible restaurants. The location of the Finas is perfect as it is right next to the bus stop and very close to the beach and the main strip. I highly recommend the restaurant on the beach - Kyma - it is expensive, but worth it for the amazing views, delicious food and lovely staff. The waterpark in Falaraki is fab, there is a free bus everyday at 9.15 and returns at 5pm - absolutely no need to pay Olympic E16 for you transfer! The buses in general are a bit hit and miss on their reliability, however this one always turns up! The buses are air conditioned and very cheap so don't be afraid of them! Lindos is beautiful, very quick to get there so we visited twice. The Acropolis is pretty and not too bad a walk, lots of donkeys also available! We also got a boat to Lindos on one trip, E20 for a return on the glass bottom boat and this was a definite bonus to the day as we got two swimming stops included and the boat captain was fab! Rhodes town cost E11 return on the bus, but be warned it is a loooong way! I think this would have been better to have booked with Olympic on a direct transfer as it would have been about half the journey time and the bus in the morning was 1 and a half hours late!!!

All in all one of my best ever holidays, do not be put off by the reviews!! If you want 5* luxury then pay for it, if not go along embrace it and don't waste your holiday complaining - after all how long do you intend to stay in your room for?! Get out see the whole island, enjoy some great food, meet lovely people, socialise at the bar and embrace the party atmosphere if your room overlooks the pool!!

Spent a week here last summer the rooms are tired and shabby. Dirty mattress curtains hanging away from pole then to top it all we returned to our room after a day out to find it flooded with sewage water coming up from floor , this happened twice we were moved to another room which was no cleaner we booked through Olympic holidays when we complained we were given the reps telephone number from reception the rep was most put out that we rang her on her day off? She was useless. We didn't pay a fortune but my advise would be save your money or book somewhere else. (June 2012)

Well... this is definatley not i mean not a 3 star BUT it could well be as the location and the staff were lovely especially the girls working the bar. We did have a lovely view over looking the sea but it wasnt very clean. The bath plug hole was full of hair the shower curtain was mouldy . The curtains were hanging off the rails and did not match. The hotel offers self caterting rooms but did not offer the facilities to be completely self catering..No oven no frying pan and no toaster lol
If i was a representive working for Olympic i would be embarraced. It needs for both hotel owner and Olympic to get together and improve and update the rooms as this could be a lovely place to stay in a great location.... cleanliness is a must thats all we ask .....

Room Tip: Take some cleaning products with you ......

Fantastic Hotel, the staff were wonderful, happy to help. Apartments were really clean & well maintained.
A great place to stay. The hotel is a little out of the way for the beach & town but its a great walk & the exercise will do you good. Will definitely return.

A great place to stay... Lively or quiet, it's up to you. All English but it is a package holiday resort with Olympic! Staff wonderful... Pool busy and children but can be fun. If you want romance stay away... Bit of a walk into main area of Pefkos and all uphill from any beach in area. Overall a bargain holiday but Greece is not cheap by any means. 2.50 euro pint, any meal 40 euro with wine. Hope this helps your decision in where to go. Ps. Air con 50 euro per week and breakfast 7 days 25 euro.

On arrival the impression is very good. The young guy who takes care of the desk at night and shows you to your room could not be more helpful. Unfortunately, when we arrived to our room we were horrified to find filthy floods, walls, bathroom, shower curtain... Broken beds, broken wardrobe, uncovered sockets, only one working light... the list goes on. We slept in our clothes the first night. The dirt is the kind that is built up over years where only a cursory mop and wipe has been given to the floor and bathroom.

The sheets were freshly washed but marked with permanent stains ad I didn't dare look at the mattresses. A double room is in fact a twin. It is common to have 2 single divans pushed together with a double top/bottom sheet but these are 2 single bed frames that cannot therefore act as a double. When we questioned this with the management the response is simply 'they are all like that'. Presumable if they were all roofless this would also be ok????

Bar staff generally friendly and other guests seemed to adopt a blitz mentality (on discussion it appears all rooms were of a similar standard).

If you are well travelled and used to home stay/hostel living you will be able to deal with this but otherwise my advice is steer clear!!

Just spent two weeks in hell at this so-called hotel. As soon as the coach pulled up we got that sinking feeling, and after pulling our luggage a third or the way up a mountain to reception it only got worse. Before we got our keys we were mugged for 100 Euros for air conditioning and expected to pay a further 30 Euros for a safe that was in reception and no where near our room.
Well, room 183 was a further third of the way up the mountain and trailing luggage following a night flight with children was no joke, then we also had a flight of steep stairs to go. Once inside and in desperate need of an oxygen tank we were astounded to find the place a dirty hovel. The ants had taken over and infested the entire place. Dirty sheets and towels were left for us to use and the bed was like a slab of concrete. The cleaner who visited occasionally armed with one cloth to clean all and a filthy mop, made a lame excuse at cleaning, in fact it got so bad that we bought cleaning materials and bleach to try and have some level of hygiene about the place. Now we didn't expect a lot and 'basic' seems to be the in-word to describe Rhodes but we did expect a standard of cleanliness. When we lifted the sheets the ants were all over the mattress and we were eaten alive during the night. Over our fortnight the pool area was never cleaned once and the bar and food area was soaked with a hose every morning causing nothing more that huge puddles to be negotiated when you tried to escape the property to go for breakfast. That takes us to the disgusting food. On our first evening we decided to eat at the Finas --- BIG MISTAKE!!! We waited 45 minutes on our first drink and two hours on our food. The 'well done' steak was less than rare and was returned to be cooked and my carbanara was cold and probably taken from a freezer and placed for too short a time in a microwave. The lamb chops arrived as a plate of chips and the fish and chips our youngest granddaughter ordered was so full of huge bones that it was uneatable. The steak was brought back 20 minutes later the same raw way, only this time the veg was stone cold as it hadn't been replaced or kept warm. Carbanara was sliding in olive oil and when the lamb chops eventually did appear these were the only eatable dish served to us. We were by far not the only people to complain about the food and the young lad who was worked off his feet was struggling to cope. The lad came over to us and said the chef sent his apologies for the food but this meant very little as we were still presented with a bill for almost 53 Euro which we had to pay in full. The owner who was always on site, must have no pride in this place or how guests who pay hard-earned cash to go there are treated. Despite daily complaints from guests staff had no authority to do anything and the Olympic Rep seemed oblivious to what was clear to be seen. The only saving grace about this holiday was the close proximity to the little town, 4-5 Euros in a taxi, where quality restaurants were abundant. We ate most evenings at Roumelies No4 from a huge menu serving 3 courses for 8.90 Euro and 4 Euro for a kids meal (which was enormous) with free ice cream. This was our first time to Greece, and our last, after this experience. Having travelled extensively for 40+ years this was not just the holiday from hell but the hotel in hell. Everyone noticed and remarked how the owner sat perched on a bar stool watching the staff and how only the manager and the owners son were allowed to take money. Giving a very poor impression to guests and showed a high level of mistrust of his staff. Pity though, because the staff were the only ones keeping this place open in our opinion. Those who have either low or no standards of cleanliness and are prepared to live in filth are welcome to this place. PRICE SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY BEARING ON HYGIENE.

Room Tip: NONE IN OUR EXPERIENCE -- Unless you enjoy living in filth and mountain climbing.
