I have just returned back from the Island Blue hotel. We arrived on the 31st Aug 2013 and stayed for 14 day holiday. I travelled with my wife and 2 boys, 14yrs and 12yrs and my friends and their 2 boys 16yrs and 9yrs.

We had forgot to book a taxis from the airport so emailed the hotel whilst on the plane just before take off and on out arrival at Rhodes airport the taxis were waiting. The taxis were 75euros which was well worth the price as we were checked in and sitting in the Elia bar when the transfer bus arrived 1 hr later.

The check in was quick and the golf buggy ride to our hotel room was even better . This is the second visit to the hotel as we holidayed same time last year, so we knew what to expect.

The room was expected very modern no fussy décor and had everything you will require from a hotel room and what it does not have reception will sort for you within minutes of asking. there is maid service every day and the welcome bottle of wine, fresh fruit and flower display was more then expected but appreciated.

The air condition is a godsend and I disappeared into the room most afternoons to cool off.

The food in the Elia Restaurant is very good and reasonably priced, also the breakfast has something for everyone.

All of the staff are wonderful they do their upmost to make your holiday relaxing and enjoyable. Stergos who works the pool bar is great and so efficient and takes pride in everything he does within the bar and around the pool. The food in pool bar is spot on a good selection and made fresh in the hotel and carried over and a good price. I opted for a child's portion of Spag Bog with Greek salad as the portions are large.

The weather was very hot so lots of sun cream is required, take your own as this is expensive in resort. if you forget anything do not worry as the hotel supermarket is well stocked with most things you will require.

As with most things there is a few negatives :

As mentioned in previous reviews other guests from the other apartment accommodation came to use the Island Blue pool, which in turn made it difficult to find beds together, we managed but had to be up putting out towels at 7am. Also be aware the hotel caters for weddings and big parties do al of a sudden take over the pool and sunbeds as most of them are staying in the other apartments they all want to be together. a way of rectifying the sun bed situation is for the Island Blue to issue towels to its guests so as to identify guests from other apartments who are using the beds. I have to say the hotel did bring out more beds once a complaint was made although this did not resolve the problem with big crowds drinking in the pool.

During our two week holiday both my wife and I suffered from a 24 hrs tummy bug as did about 10 other people I know of who were staying at the hotel, luckily none of the children caught it and it only lasted 24 hrs.

Would I go back to the Island Blue again? Most certainly as I have to say the hotel is fabulous, the staff so friendly.

Dear Guests

Many thanks for taking the time to write your great review of your recent stay with us here at the Island Blue Hotel. I am very happy to hear that you had a great holiday here in Pefkos with us.

Thank you for all your great comments which are very much appreciated. All your comments help us to review our facilities and services to our guests and we are working on how to resolve the situation with the sunbeds etc.

Sorry to hear that you were unwell during your stay and I hope this didnt casue too much disruption during your stay. There has been a virus in Pefkos and neighbouring resorts recently (not from the hotel) which as you say is a 24 hour bug.

We look forward to being able to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future for another great stay with us.

Kind regards

we stayed at The Island Blue last September 2012 and really enjoyed the wonderful 11 nights,
so we decided to return this year ,we stayed from the 27.7.2013 to 7.8.2013 once again it was
fantastic, on arrival we had a very smooth check-in and then whisked away to our room on a golf cart, breakfast was just fabulous, so much choice and Rebecca the lovely girl was so helpful and
attentive as was Nikos (what a hard working guy).

Pool areas were always busy, but we managed to get beds, only small complaint was all the
other people using from the other 2 resorts (pefki island and lindia thalassa) which was slightly unfair to the people from Island Blue.

Top Resturants which we will highly recommend are as follows

Kymi Beach - A little Gem bit pricey but worth it, food is FAB
Smile - Wow this little taverna is really lovely, great home cooked food and piping hot
and massive portions and really excellent value for money.
Elia - Food was well presented and again real value for money

Just like the last couple of reviews weather was really HOT 38-40 degrees every day,so
take plenty of sun cream if you go in August.

Hired a car from the Zeus Car Hire and the guy remembered my husband from last year,
again nothing was to much trouble for him, and told us new places to visit ( 3 days car hire
for a Fiat Panda 100 euros).

Please Please keep going to Rhodes people are lovely and so is the island.

We have been to Pefkos many times and last year we went to take a look at Island Blue. we were impressed and booked for this year.

Unfortunately as previous reviews myself and my husband and about twenty other guests were poorly for a big part of our holiday. Thomson rep was great and told us this sickness bug had been at the hotel since May. Apparently Thomson and the hotel are investigating

The only other downside was sharing our pool with guests from the other two hotels. We had paid on average about £600 more than guests of Thalassa andPefki Islands, yet large wedding groups came around our pool every day and sometimes it was impossible to get a sunbed. We were told we had preference to the use of the pool and sunbeds but there was no way of checking who was who. One group saved 14 beds every day before 8am and most days about 5 people used them. This is not the hotels fault, but maybe guests at Island Blue could be issued with Blue towels to make it obvious that we were staying there. I would say 40% were not staying at Island Blue. We know all pools in Greece are available to all, but when you pay top dollar for a platinum holiday, you should have preference over non guests

The rooms are beautifully kept, the cleaners work extremely hard, the pool bar was efficient , clean and well stocked, the food lovely. The breakfast was vast and a choice for everyone. Efficient staff and food replenished constantly. Only downside I think the squash at breakfast could be replaced with fresh orange, etc.

We will be returning next year in the hope that maybe the sunbed issue and fruit juice will be sorted.

Hotel is lovely and very high quality by Greek standards well done to all the staff and management, very well run and attention to detail. Golf buggy to room and suitcases delivered shortly after. Few problems, without these minor issues it would have been even better.

Please don't let our illness put you off, hopefully the source has now been found. Pefkos is a fabulous resort with lovely bars and restaurants and the Island Blue is the nicest hotel in the area.

Dear Guests

Many thanks for taking the time to write your great review of your recent stay with us here at the Island Blue hotel. I am happy to hear that you had a great holiday with us here in pefkos.

I am sorry to hear that you were unwell during your stay but I can 100% assure you that the virus is NOT from the hotel. There has been an airbourne virus since May on the WHOLE island of Rhodes which is confirmed by the medical authorities is not from food etc. We are fully committed to ensuring the safety and wellness of all our guests and staff and conduct regular checks on all aspects of health and safety and food regulations which are all negative. Out of over 900 guests and staff there has been a handful of cases of sickness especially in large groups of people who are all in close contact with each other and pass it on between themselves unforatunately. We hope this did not spoil your holiday too much and that you are feeling better.

Thank you for all your comments which are very much appreciated and do help us to review the faciltities and services we offer our guests here in resort. We do try to monitor the sunbed situation as best we can but sometimes in peak season it can be a little difficult to control. We are looking at solitions and ideas we can put in place on this matter for the future.

We look forward to being able to welcome you all back to the hotel in the near future for another great stay.

Kind regards

We travelled to Pefkos at the end of June 2013 for 2 weeks, this is the first time we have stayed at Island Blue Hotel although we have stayed at Pefki Island 4 times, we decided to try Island Blue as we got a very good deal (albeit 13 months before we travelled) and it was a special birthday so thought we would treat ourselves. We very much enjoyed Island Blue, loved the buggies taking you to the room after you had checked in and thought the rooms were lovely, lots of space. We loved the huge showers/bathrooms (Pefki island showers are pretty small) & loved the balcony, which are very shaded which is great after a long day in the sun. I cannot comment on the breakfast as we never once went (we don’t do breakfast) but I am sure its lovely as everything in the hotel is lovely. The pool area at Island Blue is lovely and we never once had trouble finding a sunbed at Island Blue or Pefki Island no matter what time we went out. We like Pefki Island pool, where Lucas is, as much as island blue so we went between the two of them and the beach, never had a problem getting a bed.
The rooms were cleaned everyday everything was great but if I honest I like Pefki Island best, don’t know why but we just do, which is good news for us as its cheaper haha. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with Island Blue it’s a fabulous hotel but we liked the atmosphere at Pefki Island, I love coming back after a night out and sitting on the balcony and watching everyone walking past whereas at Island Blue it is very very quite, which again, don’t get me wrong is not a bad thing but just personal preference.
The only thing that made me sad this year was my favourite part of the beach had disappeared, obviously I am not blaming the hotel for this, but we love the beach at the bottom of the hotel where there is just enough room for your sun bed on the beach and then you are in the sea, unfortunately because of the lovely weather that they had at the beginning of the season it meant that the beach had sort of disappeared which I was gutted about. We did manage to find a nice little spot that suited us so it was ok.
All of the staff at Island Blue & Pefki Island are fab, one of the reasons we keep coming back is because of the people that we have met in Pefkos, not just the hotel but also in the bars and restaurants. Lucas at the Delfini Pool Bar at Pefki Island is an absolute star, he really is a lovely cheeky little fella. Sam & Diana who work on a night are brilliant as well, you have a good laugh with them, Party Party Diana! All of the girls on reception are great nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel has a lot of students working at the hotel from other countries and they are a really nice bunch of kids, work long hours and work very hard but all of them always have a smile. They work hard and play hard I don't know how they do it, it wore me out just watching them.
So yes we really liked Island Blue but we love Pefki Island which isn’t a bad thing as they both part of the same hotel. So without a doubt we will be back but it will be at Pefki Island. Maybe if we had gone to Island Blue first then it would be different but Pefki Island wins our heart.

Room tip: All the rooms are lovely, we were on 2nd floor and it was lovely

Just back from 2 weeks at the Island Blue. Great accommodation with great selection of pools. We stayed B&B and found the breakfast excellent. Spent most of the day around the pool by the restaurant which was quiet and comfortable beds. A word of warning August is very, very hot so be warned. We started off in a ground floor room which was good but asked to move to a room with a balcony. This was done with no problem and I have to say all the staff were excellent. The included A/C was fantastic.

Room tip: Try the pool by the Eli restaurant
