“poor food, childrens pool so dirty it smelled”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

For an all inclusive hotel. It was not all inclusive as I've ever known it before. Breakfast= boiled eggs, bread, cheese slices, ham slices, feta cheese, greek yogourt. Nothing else!
This fashion of no choice of food continued at every sitting. You could only get a snack if you liked cheese and ham toasties. Even though I continually asked for no cheese as I have a dairy intolerant child I got cheese.
the baby pool was dirty and smelled. Although the adult pool was clean, it was not safe for children.
One night the staff were so drunk at 2am. they fell against the room door. I had to go out and tell them to shut up.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I went out to eat breakfast dinner and tea after the first 2 days as the children were hungry and would not eat.
My daughter caught an eye infection, from the pool, so we just went to the hotel the rest of my family were staying in for the rest of the week, I could not wait to leave

just returned after a one week stay, it is one of the older hotels, but that makes the gardens well established and very pretty, it was a real pleasure to sit on the spacious terrace with the pool bar on hand, alcholic drink served noon till midnight, soft drink 10am onwards, the staff are very nice and helpfull. The food is very Greek, well presented and cooked, if you want a full English breakfast, there are pleny of bars close by who do very good prices. This is the first review i have ever written, but was so pleased with the Thalia felt i would write something positive as it deserves it , cant wait to go back

I have never stayed in an hotel like it. We should have known from the moment we walked in ... I travelled in a party of 6 3 adults and 3 children (under the age of 5) when we arrived we were put on the bottom floor with no lift for buggy and felt like we were putting the receptionist out asking for a hand with cases and buggy ... when getting down to the bottom floor the stench was stomach turning the cleaning cupboard was there dirty mops stagnant water bleach ... the rooms had been tidied but not cleaned there was makeup rubbish under the beds while we were there the rooms were cleaned once and beds towels changed once in the week ... the restaurant which was all inclusive had 3 different choices which there was nothing for the children one of the children is dairy and soya intolerant which they knew and everything was covered in cheese or cheese sauces so she couldn't eat there in the whole week we ate in the restaurant all off 3 times as there was nothing for them ... the child pool was dirty around had been cleaned but the water was mucky the main pool wasn't much better and the children could play in it as there was no shallow part ... the staff were rude made you feel like an inconvenience to serve you and god forbid you asked for something that wasn't there way again due to dairy intolerent we asked for a ham toasty as ham and cheese toasty were all that were served at pool side and we got ham and cheese toasty so again she wasn't able to eat ... to top it all off one night at 2 oclock in the morning we were awoken by screaming shouting giggling and banging on doors to find it was the staff drunk who had to be told twice to keep the noice down before actually quieting down as staff they knew children were in the rooms ... as you can tell we didnt have the best of holidays if we had been staying two weeks is have moved hotels within two days of being there ... I wouldnt recommend the hotel to anyone the town is amazing stunning place but choose another hotel !!!!

Just returned from a week long, all inclusive stay in the Thalia Hotel in Pefkos, Rhodes.

The hotel itself is very nice - simple and clean with a nice, welcoming reception area. The staff are lovely and helpful and reception are open 24/7. We stayed in room 302, a nice room with a cracking view! Although we were all inclusive, we still had a little stove, a sink, a fridge and some utensils and crockery. Not that we needed to use it but a nice touch!

Storage-wise we had a big wardrobe with lots of hangers and a couple of drawers, and room underneath which was perfect for the suitcases. We had 2 bedside tables with drawers and space underneath, and a massive dressing table with an even BIGGER mirror (i went away with 2 girlfriends last September - really could have done with this back then!! Easily big enough for 2 or 3 to do makeup at the same time!)

The bathroom was fine, small but clean and with a good sized sink, shelf and mirror with a light. From my experiences with Greek bathrooms, the showers ALWAYS soak the floor, all you need to do is put a towel down and job done! No need for complaint at all. The water was hot, and the shower itself nice and strong (nothing worse than a piddly shower!). There was no window in the bathroom but this wasn't a problem - there was no mould or mildew anywhere and it aires itself anyway if you leave the bathroom door open after your shower - no issues there! There was a drain in the bathroom, which did pong a bit when we first went in but after a couple of hours it went and we had no trouble at all with any bad smells for the duration of our stay. We put it down to the room not being used for a while - it is the start of the season after all!

The balcony is nice with a small table and chairs, and from our one we had a lovely view over the pool, with the sea and the hills in the distance. Perfect for watching the sunset! There are some beautiful creeping plants and flowers in and around the Thalia too which added to the beauty of the surroundings.

Now i really can't understand why anyone would complain about the food! I must admit, i was a little apprehensive as this was my first all inclusive holiday - but i worried for nothing. It exceeded my expectations by a thousand percent! There was choice, lots of lovely traditional food (better than a lot of restaurants might i add) hot and cold, and something different every day (lunch AND dinner). It really was tasty - i was stuffed to bursting every day! I am very adventurous with food, but my partner isn't and he ate well all week -and loved it. Like some of the other good reviewers say - If you want British food, stay in Britain! Hats off to the chef :)

The pool area was really lovely, and the pool itself was nice too. Pool bar was great! Some lovely coctails included in the package which made a nice change from beer or wine (although both were lovely too! Just nice to have the choice) The lights at night made the area look lovely. The music did get quite loud at night and it wasn't all to our taste, but it did vary throughout the week which was good - not just dance music! And it made for a good atmosphere in the evening. The music stopped at midnight on the dot every night which was perfect for us.

The area of Pefkos is really lovely, small and quiant. For me, i like to venture out of town on foot and find other towns, beaches, bays etc. For this i found the area wasn't quite so great as it is quite barren outside the town and quite far to the next ones but there are buses that take you to the heart of Lardos and excursions that you can book to take you to Lindos and Falaraki (Awesome Water park - not for the faint hearted though!) I'm not complaining - we did find a couple of nice beaches up the way and a really nice taverna with a pool towards Lardos - and it's always lovely to explore even if there's not much to find along the way.

The main beach of Pefkos was beautiful - floor's quite rocky in the sea itself (i prefer sand all the way) but still lovely to swim in and water was stunning. Lee Beach is a must - lovely food and drinks and right at the front overlooking the sea with a wonderful view - we went there every day i think!

Overall, a fantastic holiday - the hotel was fab, and we would definitely recommend it :D

First of all I would like to say that this was an inexpensive all inclusive holiday at £250 each for a week and when you consider flights, baggage, taxes, transfers, food and drinks were all included in the price, it appeared to be a bargain! However I would rather have paid extra for better food and drink, as we had to spend money anyway on eating out as the food was so bad!! Cheap or not, the food should be a decent menu, and hot, but if this cannot be done then the prices need hiking up and the Chef needs a bigger budget to work with!! The all inclusive deal was false economy as we ate out every night after the second night in the hotel and money we would have spent on gifts etc had to be spent on food for the week!! The rooms were small and we were glad we were only there for a week and not two! Shower/toilet was so small! I think the whole building needs a refurb to bring the hotel up-to-date but I have to say that the owners and staff were polite, friendly and very accommodating, its just a shame they cannot provide better food and more comfortable rooms. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels provided.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back or front - too noisy on the poolside

Our family have been going to Pefkos for 12 years and have become very good friends with the family that own the Thalia. You get what you pay for and should remember that. Maybe people should take a look at the way they behave and communicate with the owners! The rooms are basic, but surely you don't go on holiday to live in your room?? Pefkos is amazing, this hotel is most certainly worth a try if you don't let the reviews put you off!!!

My Girlfriend and I booked the Thalia through a travel agents for end of July 2011. After we had booked we read the reviews and paniced and tried to change our hotel. It was too dear to find an alternative. When we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was a double with a garden view. You wouldnt spend time in the garden but its fine to look at. The pool is super, its not dangerous, its cean and you could always get a sunbed. The room itself had plenty of space and its not the most modern decor but what do you expect for 2.5 stars! The room was also cleaned every day.
The bathroom is smallish but so what, the electrics worked perfectly and we had no issues. We didnt ever use the self catering because we were onholiday and Pefkos has the most beautiful restaurants to chose from!

The staff were friendly and helpful and I would definitely go back. People who complain are expecting too much for the money and if you go with an open mind you will love it! We certainly did!
The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of a beautiful resort.
