“Basic...payed less and got more!”
Reviewed 20 April 2009

The Thalia is a basic Greek hotel. It has a pool, a pool bar, shop, interent access via 1 computer in reception.

We had a family room, which was poor. we payed £1500 for a week B&B it was the only room we could find that would sleep 5 on this side of the island as my sister was getting married at Kalathea Spa we needed to be on this side. Other rooms were available on the other side but were much more expensive.

Breakfast is as dire as everyone says! We didn't bother eating breakfast at the hotel after seeing the dining room on the first day.
The room was clean but ultra basic, I have visited Rhodes 4 times and I can say it was worse than anything that I have ever experienced. The matresses were dirty, the 3rd bed for the children was made up of 4 or 5 old sponge matresses. The bathroom was terrible, you couldn't have a shower without flooding the entire room and out the door. There was a fridge and plenty of storage space. The balconcy was adequate for our needs but there was no where to hang wet costumes etc.

If you have a backpack and are just looking for somewhere to sleep and have a shower - stay here!

Have just returned from Pefkos (Thursday Sept 19) from a week's stay at this so called hotel -studio complex. We had two rooms, one for my wife and I the other for our daughter, parnter and granddaughter.
This place should not be allowed to be in the holiday brochures - it is an absolute disgrace.
Self catering? Not an iceberg in hell's chance. Our room's so-called kitchinette was a tatty sink with no hot water two grubby hotplate rings and a fridge which the door kept coming off the hinge because the two odd screws trying to keep it in place were too small for the holes.
The 3ft square shower tray constantly overflowed, the shower curtain didnt cover the gap between the loo and the wall so the sink area got flooded and it was a health hazard there were so many moulds and indescribable things growing in it.
Oh, and the chipped sink with its dirty slimy plug was a health risk too. The cleaners werent contracted to clean on Sundays so the used loo roll in the tiniest of bins stagnated and smelled the room out for two days - not very nice in the lovely hot weather.
What else can go wrong you might ask? How about one of the two bedside lights not working because no-one put in a new bulb and one of the sockets in the room not working all the while.
The pool surround was past its sellby date - grubby greasy and tatty sunloungers rusting umbrella poles and tatty tops as well as two creaking tilting ladders into the pool which were not totally safe.
If you like mangy wild cats you'll love this place there were at least seven or eight of the damn things living in the grounds thanks to stupid residents fussing over and feeding them.
Our daughter's room was a carbon copy of ours though they looked over the back while we looked over the outside bar and the ensuing latenight ruckus.
This place has seen better days and should have a refit or close, at best it should not be offered for next season by any tour operators.
We spent a fortune dining out every day - thanfully Pefkos has a surfeit of excellent eateries and bars, the only slight redeeming factor was the family running the place were lovely, warm, welcoming and helpful sadly their establishment wasnt. Next time we go to Greece it will be to a proper hotel not the Hellenic Faulty Towers

DO NOT stay at this dirty unfriendly Hotel. Big flashing lights on roof that flash Disco Pool Bar over resort. This was not in the brochure pictures. Had to move rooms as over looking bar so very nosiy at night. On greek night they took our table and chairs from our balcony so we could not sit out that night ! All ground floor corridor smells. Pool had a one inch of grime and was not cleaned once. Bar tender the most unfriendly greek I have ever met. Even food served during day is rather dull & luke warm. The one good thing was the Hotel was so bad & dirty we went to the beech which is the best in Rhodes. Bathroom had hole cut out so it would open past sink. Balcony grotty. This Hotel is tired and the worst I have stayed at with my family in over ten years going to greece. There are some wonderfull tavernas such as Philosophia & Flyers on the beech, but the Hotel is a no, no matter how cheap.

  • Liked — It was so poor & dirty we spent day at beech instead of by the pool
  • Disliked — Dirty noisy & unfriendly

my partner and i stayed here from the 13th to the 20th aug 08, for a budget hotel it was what was expected, i had read the reviews of others after i booked and thought oh my god, but i was surprised, good points very well located, friendly staff, only had to ask and things were done ( small things like directions, best beaches etc)
rooms are what you would expect from a budget hotel basic but that's Greece, bad points other than only towels changed once in the week, the bar stayed open till around 01:30 am which in its self was not bad but the music had a base line that i am sure you would have been able to hear in the uk, ( well its was loud to say the least)
this was every night except for the last night, so ask for a room away from the bar.............

I stayed here with my friend and I wished I hadn't. I found it to be very unfriendly. We had to clean out the pool every morning as it was full of cockroaches and leaves from the surrounding garden areas. I found the owner to be extremely unhelpful and down right rude. I would recommend that people spend their money elsewhere and not go to this hotel from hell.

My Wife and I plus two friends have returned from 2 week stay in Pefcos Rhodes. After booking the holiday I found this site and read what were horrific reports suggesting that people had experienced holidays from hell at this hotel. With this in mind we arrived at the Thalia feeling very apprehensive to say the least but we need not have worried.

The staff were excellent the rooms were clean of reasonable size, towels and bedding was changed regularly and there was NO SEWAGE SMELL

Bearing in mind that the hotel is only rated as a 2*+ it was as good as if not better that many places we have stayed at in Greece and Greek Islands they are nearly all very basic unles you are prepared to pay a lot higher price
.
Our rooms were located overlooking the Bar/Pool area so consequently there was some noise late into the early hours of the morning, not music that was switch off about 12-15 but people could be heard talking and laughing. If you want a quiet room ask for one away from the bar area at the front of the hotel.

A word of warning there is no kettle and if you want A/C it will cost you 41 Euros a week (most places charge the same) we were lucky enough to not need it in June.

If you are thinking of going have no fears, some people are just unlucky or complain about everything. Just remember what you are paying, if you want 4* then be prepared to pay double the price.

I would recommend this hotel and Pefcos is a fantastic resort with plenty of excellent dining places at good prices you can't go wrong you could get a 3 course meal for 8.90 Euros

We will be returning to the Thalia in the near future

Have a nice Holiday
