“Wish we were still there, well worth going half board!”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

I'm so upset we had to leave yesterday, our most enjoyable family holiday ever. We arrived 13th August and have had 2 beautifully relaxing weeks, the food is amazing.
My daughter is diabetic and also on a gluten free diet, so firstly thanks to Amy who I corresponded through email with to help with regards to food choices at breakfast and evening meal, it made our stay stress free.
People's bar is excellent, the staff are wonderful, we enjoyed breakfasts here and will really miss them, we also had lunch here most days enjoying the gyros and souvlaki's and all the wonderful salads, so much to choose from. The table service was great, loved the stowford press cider served in ice cold glasses, my youngest loved the milkshake's and ice-creams.
Meltemi restaurant is second to none, special thanks to the brothers and all the staff in there, so helpful with food choices, and as I've said before with my eldest daughter needing to eat gluten free they'd even ordered in gluten free spaghetti for her, there is kits on the menu that she was able to have, she loved the salmon kleftiko and the stuffed potatoe skins the best, my favourites were the labour as and beef stafado oh and the baklava yum! We ate out twice but the food didn't come close, we had a meal at kyma which is an excellent setting yes but meltimis authentic greek dishes top it. It is definitly worth paying the extra for half board, the meltimi menu has so much choice we had a different meal every night, you can have 2 dishes each out of starters, mains and desserts, I struggled eating 2 courses as they were quite big but I'm missing the food already. Oh and thanks to stergos for the greek lessons "S 'agapo all at the matina!"
Big thanks for our lovely room 715, beautiful view of the mountains, fantastic cleaner kept this very well cleaned 6 days a week, lots of storage space, paying for air con is a must, budget this in with your holiday stay. We ordered online from abc before our arrival and was great to arrive to everything ready in our room, and thanks for putting water in the fridge and a bottle in the freezer, this was used on the beach on our first day - much needed in that heat! If you don't order online the supermarket and bars are open late anyway.
Location is perfect, so many shops and bars within 5 mins walking distance, the beach is 2 mins away with crystal clear waters, sun beds 4 euros each.
Pop into Aretimis jewellers and gift shop whilst there, lovely owner who kept giving my girls little presents, the Greeks are the most friendly welcoming people, it was our first time in greece and will definitly return, my 5 year old cried as the plane took off!
You must visit Pallas travel to book excursions, very reasonably priced, we paid only 42 euros for rhodes express by day for 2 adults and 2 kids, the old town is wonderful, the museums are a must and odyssey restaurant is fantastic.
Also take a taxi to lindo, the reception will book this for you, only cost us 10 euros there and 8 back. The donkey rides are 5 euros each, kids loved this and their picture is took which you find back at the bottom for 4 euros. The acropolis is amazing, and the roof garden restaurant has beautiful views over the bay.
You must take the glass bottom boat trip, don't just turn up though, book with the lady at the house to ensure your spot on the boat (if your going in August anyway) we saw lots who just turned up get turned away as the boat was full. Swimming in Naverone bay was the highlight for my partner, it's honestly the most amazing experience ever, staying on the boat to lindos and straight back for 2 adults and 2 kids cost us 54 euros, drinks on board 1 euro each.
Back to the matina, the grounds and pools are excellent, the maintainence men work tirelessly day and night, we saw the pool checked and cleaned daily. The laudably room onsite is good, 6 euros for 2 tokens at reception. Clothes dried quickly on the balcony with the clothes airer provided.
My youngest enjoyed the games in the small pool with abbey and April, great little play area and the pool onto people's bar was just fantastic and our favourite, we met many nice families here with the kids all making friends. Great free wi fi at people's bar and in reception. I won't hesitate to come back here, thanks again to the matina for the most wonderful 2 weeks, if only we could have stayed with you longer!

Room Tip: Don't worry about the new blocks, we loved block 7 and the old blocks if you're lucky to get...

Stayed at the Matina in August. Booked with jet2 and payed extra for a new room. Very glad we did as they were very spacious, clean and comfy. Had a pool view and could also see the sea. A good mix of people at this hotel, lots of families. food in the peoples bar was very good and reasonably priced. As we are a family of 7 we booked 2 apartments and as requested were very close to each other. Playground equipment a bit tired but the kids enjoyed it. Can't comment on the matina bar as we stayed round the newer pool. Kids club was fine, chocolate party was enjoyed. The resort of Pefkos was perfect for us. Plenty of restaurants for all tastes and budgets, especially enjoyed Enigma, smile garden and flavia. glass bottom boat trip is a must, fab time and such a laugh speeding back through the waves. Matina is situated a stones throw from the beach and a short walk up to the main strip . Really can't fault it and will be back next year.

Room Tip: New block has nice pool views

We went as a three generation holiday which was a first for us. All our rooms were of a very good size compared to others we have stayed on in Greece. We had a large balcony which was lovely for breakfast - the only meal I make! The pool areas were great catering for all ages and level confidence in the water. Even with eight of us at times we didn't have a problem getting sun beds together. People were friendly and helpful. There are numerous restaurants to eat in that you can easily be spoilt for choice. A great place in a lovely resort. Lindabowness

Room Tip: We requested a quiet upper room and got it

We have just returned from our holiday at the Matina, this being our 2nd year at the hotel. The staff at the Matina are superb and do everything they can to make your stay memorable. This year we noted the food in The hotels restaurant was exceptional and with a 10 percent discount for residents made great value. We were staying in room 615 which is on the top floor, this provides a partial sea view and also overlooks the pool. The only downside was sometimes there was noise late at night coming from the pool bar, which at 1am in the morning became annoying. The Matinas grounds are maintained to a high standard but we did notice this year that the pool and pool area did seem on some occasions need more effort.
Over the last 2 stays at the hotel I would on the whole say that the Matina offers great value for the price we have previously paid but having recently costed it up for next year through jet2 (Thomas Cook will not have representation anymore) it would be hard to justify the 30 percent price increase they are asking for, It seems this will be our last stay at the hotel and although we intend to return to Pefkos it will no longer be at the Matina.

Dear craigh16,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us once again.

Please note, we are working with many more tour operators in 2015, not just Jet2 Holidays and many of these offer flights from the south of the UK as well as the option of booking directly with the hotel and arranging your own flights. We hope this helps solve your problems and enables you to return to our complex for your next holiday.

Stayed at the Matina from 13th-20th August 2014. Lovely place, location is perfect - by far the best in Pefkos as some of the apartments/hotels are up a very steep slope and we chatted to other holidaymakers who had spent 8 euros per taxi fare to get back and too to the restaurants and beach - the Matina is within a few minutes walk of the beautiful beach and the best restaurants. We stayed in room 812 which had an super view over the pools. The air conditioning is well worth the 45 euros you have to pay on arrival and operates efficiently and quietly and helps block out any outside noise (although this didn't appear to be an issue). Reception is well manned (24 hour) and happy to help with any requests. We arrived at 11.30ish on the Wednesday and were greeted in the car park by a member of staff who showed us the way to our room and informed us that the well stocked and reasonably priced supermarket would remain open until 1am for our convenience. The room was a good size, well presented and clean with the basic utensils and utilities required, lots of towels! We only ever had breakfast in the apartment. Plenty of sunbeds, brollys etc but we did get up about 8am and place a towel on the few remaining available ones. Pool side is clean and well maintained. Peoples bar offers table service and a good menu, food of a good standard. We spent most of our holiday on Lee Beach and ate most lunches at the Lees Beach Bar - highly recommended, try the prawn saganaki and calamari - salads are excellent . The beach is very well maintained and the sea is sometimes flat and calm and other days quite wavy, fun on a lilo! and always warm. We ate out every evening and split our time between Kyma (above Lees Beach Bar and run by the same family), Philosophia (walk down the beach and climb the steps to reach it - amazing views and excellent food) and lastly but most enjoyable Dama Dama, again a family run restaurant with excellent food, service and atmosphere - chicken with shrimps and seafood sauce was a particular favourite. Always pre-book your table the day before. All the menus are similar with the chicken souvlaki, fillet mignons in mustard and cream sauce and lamb cutlets being our favourites. Service at these three establishments was fast and the food excellent but I believe that was not the case in some of the cheaper restaurants with fellow holidaymakers having to wait over an hour between courses. We never had a bad meal and were made very welcome. The wine was best at Kyma. Typical lunch costs for three - 30-35 euros, Dinner 70-76 euros. We pre-booked a 3 bay cruise on the Glass Bottom Boat and it is a great experience and would definitely recommend - the swim stop was a high point. We were able to hold onto our room until 6pm on the night of departure (7pm) for 25 euros and this made the end of our holiday a stress free experience and meant we got to enjoy every last minute of the very hot sunshine. Transfers were impeccable (1 hour on arrival and 1.5 on departure - air conditioned coach). We had a fab holiday and can't report fault on any aspect. Would heartily recommend this hotel and would definitely re-visit.

Room Tip: Room 812 was on the first floor level and offered good views, sunny in the afternoon.

Have just returned from our second stay at the Matina. We stayed with our three children, aged 7, 9 and 12. The location is amazing being no more than 100m from the beach. We stayed in a one bedroom appt. which was plenty big enough for our family of five. It was clean when we arrived, there is a fridge, two cooking rings, toaster and microwave (no oven) and kettle. We stayed in one of the older blocks but i was glad of this, we had an amazing balcony, which ran the length of the appartment (about 3 M by 5 M) with a great view, as a result we were able to eat on the balcony in the evenings watching the sun setting. However not all balconies are this large, but in the older blocks all the end of row appartments have great balconies. We found the staff, whether reception staff, supermarket or bar staff to be very friendly and helpful. There are now two pool areas, both of which have seperate shallow pools for young children, there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and both pool bars are great and there is a friendly atmosphere around the pools. The new bar and restaurant are both really lovely. The only slight downside for us is that we felt the quality of cleaning was not quite as good as when we had stayed eight years ago (it was ok, just not brilliant) In addition we felt that the evening atmosphere around the bar was better eight years ago. We don't really go for the entertainment, but the children usually drag us there. Previously the entertainment was low key but very good - a greek night etc, we found the two young girls there now a bit club 18 - 30 's and thus we tended to avoid the Matina bar in the evenings. But I guess that depends on what you like. However this did not effect the holiday and i would certainly recommend the Matina as a great place to stay.

Pefkos is a lovely place, clean and tidy with plenty of places to eat and buy food. The beach is great, especially for younger children as it's a sandy beach. When we were there it was 8 euros for two sunbeds and an umbrella for the day. There are two beach bars - Flyers and lee beach. Both are great. we only ate in Lee Beach however, the day menu there is great, the food lovely and great value for the money. I have to say the food here is slightly better than at the people's bar in the Matina. The Kyma (attached to Lee Beach) is an amazing place to eat at night, great views, friendly service and fantastic food. We also really enjoyed eating at the Greek House opposite the Matina - waiters were so friendly and great fun. Our absolute favourite however and a must when visiting Pefkos is the Philosophia - brilliant views, rustic and outstanding food and away from the other bars. (Kyma and Philosophia are slightly more expensive than some of the other places, but the food really is good and well worth it). We also went on a few day trips. We took the free bus to the waterpark which was a great day out. We booked the lazyday cruise through Pallas travel and this was brilliant. The boat was small and friendly, the owners were absolutely lovely, stopped in many different places, the kids thoroughly enjoyed jumping off the boat ( i would only recommend this trip with children if your children are confident in the water,). For lunch it stops in Charaki (Haraki) - a beautiful little bay with an amazing little taverna in the centre of the bay which was reasonably priced and had lovely food. We also got a taxi to Lindos and walked upto the acropois - great views and worth the walk, no need for a donkey it really isn't that far (not suitable for a push chair though).
If you are looking for somewhere very quiet - then Pefkos is not the place for you any more - (try charaki or Stegna - the larger companies don't go to these places though), However Pefkos is still a family friendly resort that is busy enough for older teenagers. I am slightly afraid that Pefkos is beginning to become a bit too neon lighty and loud (compared to 2007), however we still had a great family holiday, great weather and overall a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: The rooms in the older block in the first row (i think 200's and 300's) on the first floor w...

Well after returning year after year the Matina continues to grow but still has that family feel about the place.
We stayed in block 8 and everything was good.
Amy and michelle so helpful and go above and beyond to accomodate and help.
Stergos and Mark continue to keep the pool bar a place where you can enjoy a drink and a good laugh
Valentina is the people's bar jewell she was fantastic when we booked 19 for lunch for birthday celebration
My only negative comment would be that from now if you want a 1 bed appartment in the new block it has to be booked via jet two and as we live in Kent that is impossible for us
After so many years returning I just feel that loyal customers should not be restricted as to where they can stay
