“A beautiful location and very helpful staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

We stayed at this hotel last week for 4 nights and it was great. It was right on the coast, only a minute walk from the beach, and you can walk right along the coast. The beach is lovely (although parts of it are privately owned) and there are lots of little cafes and restaurants. Our room was on the top floor and we had a brilliant view of the coast. Although some elements of the hotel are a bit dated, it had old-fashioned charm and was very clean. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very hard working and friendly and they were happy to help with our enquiries.
We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area and would recommend it, particularly to couples as it was a perfect place for a romantic break.

This must have been a world class five star hotel before World War II but the passing years have made it a shadow of what it once was. It is still a wonderfully imposing building and the grounds are magnificent. The rooms are large and have wonderful views over the beach, harbour and sea. The dining room and breakfast room give a hint of what once must have been the top pub in this part of the world but the glory is slightly faded.
Everything is clean and freshly painted and the staff accommodating but rather than five stars Miramare is just a three star today -- but a wonderful olde worlde three star.
It beats the socks off more modern 3 star establishments.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

We arrived after a long day on bicycle. We found this sweet hotel and had a nice room with a view of the Sea. The bed very comfortable, windows that opened for fresh air. The hot water was excellent and we enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was on a lovely terrace and the staff was wonderfully accommodating. We loved our one night stay. Peaceful and great history! They recommended a restaurant not far away and it was wonderful. They were very accommodating to us as cyclists. WiFi was available in the lobby area and as is usual in historic hotels outlets for charging your devices are limited. A minor inconvenience.

Loved this hotel, it really gives one a feel of past glory, while still maintaining its charm, efficiency and classy decor, not to mention the extensive and beautiful shady park that goes right down to the sea with only a wall separating ti from the seaside promenade that runs right around the cliffs of Castiglioncello. This unique position is due to the fact that the Miramare is 100 years old and was the first "Grande Hotel" in the area frequented by the rich and the famous: movie stars, authors, artists and even--Sir Winston Churchill. Our top floor sea side room had a view over the entire bay and the small sailboat harbour right below. Our room was a good size with loads of closet space and a roomy bathroom with a built in shower. Everything was immaculate
and we were given fresh linens and loads of toiletry every day. Breakfast was more than adequate and was served in a large bright lofty dining room that had floor to ceiling windows all around onto the garden and the sea. A special mention has to be given to the young staff who were all so kind and helpful and always doing their best.
We will most certainly return to this Hotel with its elegant atmosphere, the sitting and reading rooms, so well kept up and reminiscent of (what we imagine) were more subtle and gentle times.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room!! You will get a view that you will never forget---guaranteed

Having recently celebrated it's 100 year anniversary this little bit of history still has the charm of when it was first created.Set in magical park like gardens overlooking the sea you actually step back in time. The hotel played host to Winston Churchill and a group of Amercan Generals after the liberation of Italy, there is a photograph of Winston and the generals taking tea in the gardens in 1945. The bedrooms are excellent in size with huge bathrooms and most with superb sea views. There is a terrace In the garden where in the evening you can indulge in a glass of wine from the wine bar with some great nibbles. The staff are the most charming and obliging I've ever come across in an hotel always a cheerful greeting and courteous manner. The hotel has a dining room that looks a little formal but within easy walking distance there are a very good selection of bars serving excellent cocktails and various good restaurants serving superb seafood. We stayed for 6 days and had a marvellous experience. The only downside is, although the hotel is virtually on the waters edge it has no beach, the beaches are private and you have to pay for sun beds and parasols to access them and they're not cheap, however you can negotiate the price if they are not busy.

This is a good quality, character hotel. The building is beautiful and my bedroom was excellent, recently refurbished. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast good. Its location is excellent, right next to the sea. The hotel's gardens were attractive and you could sit out viewing the sea on one of the loungers. Castiglioncello is a charming, small resort. I travelled there by train - half hour journey from Pisa - and a short walk to the hotel.
