If you love fresh well-prepared fish, this is the place to be. One does not expect an exotic spot behind the fish shop. Minor remark: courses came too quickly and waiters were too pushy and not attentive. Overall the best seafood restaurant in Saint-Florent.

The modest fish shop entrance betrays the treat hidden behind! This is one of the best in St Florent although it was let down slightly by certain aspects of the service.

Another slightly worrying element was the provision of a bottle of mozzy repellant on each table!

On arrival we were shown to a lovely table in this leafy haven of a garden/courtyard. After reviewing the menu our limited French did leave a few questions but the waiter (in something of a Michael Jackson style outfit complete with hat!) took time to explain and take our order.

The food was exemplary - Fish Soup and Tomato and onion tart starters then Sole meunière and Sea Bass a la plancha mains followed by an exquisite chocolate sweet in a little wooden boat. Good local wine list too.

So what was wrong? Well after the initial good service on arrival there was a distinct sense that locals and regulars were getting better attention than us 'tourists'. Michael Jackson never returned and whilst the staff responded when asked they were not that attentive.

Great food and well worth a visit but I hope your service is better!

Tucked away behind the fish shop away from the town centre is Auberge du Pecheur. The garden it is set in is very nice and there is more a fine dining experience than the harbour restaurants. The staff are obviously better trained also which adds to the service element, although not spot on - we arrived as a couple with no reservation and were shown to an out of the way table when there were few people in the restaurant. Apparently it was all booked although it didnt get busy for another one and a half hours, and the waiter carved our fish with a regular knife and fork rather than proper fish utensils. For a speciality fish restaurant the food should have been better. I have regularly made better fish soups and the main baked fish for two people was a bit flavourless (i actually suggest the method of baking it with a hard salted crusty shell actually extracts moisture and flavour rather than infusing it into the fish). On the otherhand the tuna carpaccio was excellent and i would be very keen to eat that again. Overall you can find tastier meals for 50% of the price elsewhere in st florent, but the setting and the higher calibre service perhaps warrants a small premium if they can get the food right.

Wonderful service and food in the outdoor back garden, tucked away from the busy harbor. A nice surprise after a long traveling day. A special outdoor setting, interesting seafood and fish dishes. A special find!

L'Auberge du Pecheur was the highlight of our stay in St. Florent. They were able to provide us with a table despite no reservation and the service was great. The food (tuna steak) was delicious and the whole restaurant area is very stylish.
