Te Aroha Holiday Park and Backpackers
Reviewed 1 June 2011

I have stayed in motor camps, motels and hotels across New Zealand for many years now and the Te Aroha Holiday Park and Backpackers offers a fine facility. I stayed 4 nights in Apple Cottage - it was warm, comfortable and clean and very nicely decorated. The service was also warm and friendly - I will certainly return in the future.

I was in Te Aroha Holiday Park with 2 friends. The staff was great, we were initially 2 pax and we ended up being 3. They upgraded our double cabin into a 2 bedroom cabin with no problems at all. I regret we only spent there 1 night, because it was a very nice place, we felt really at home, no noises, just birds. There is a supermarket (a car is a must) and the town itself its very nice and interesting. We were travelling and it was really hard and expensive for us to get WIFI connection, even when we stayed at 5 star hotels (because of our job) in Wellington. At Te Aroha there was free Wifi connection in our cabin, and there is also a phone booth from which you get almost 500 minutes with a 10 NZ$ calling card. If you call from a regular payphone it gives you 12 minutes. But as I said, the most important thing was the way we were welcomed and treated while in there. They asked us a couple of times if everything was ok and if we needed something... I would love to come back someday... its a long way from Spain, but if I ever come back to NZ I will make sure to stay a couple of days at Te Aroha. Silvina

We had a powered site for two nights and enjoyed our stay very much. Our dog was happy at this dog friendly camp and even though she was tied up most of the time there was a lot to look at so she was happy. This is the first time we have been in a tent for over 15 years and we enjoyed it more than we expected. Thanks Anna.

Thank you. I am glad to hear that the Park's separate area for guests with dogs has worked for you. As it is situated away from amenities and Cottages but borders directly with the farm paddocks, it is nice to see when dog owners exercise their pets or just relax in ther shade of our trees on our large camp sites.

My Husband and I and our 11 year old daughter spend a night in the Tui Cottage on the way to our holiday and on the way back. Cottage was perfect, very comfortable beds, with everything else we required for our short stay. The pools were only heated from 6pm till 8.30pm, but there was a lovely spa for the adults in our group. Lots of Flys, but san't be helped in a rural place. Fly spray was provided. Will stop in again.

This is one of the traditional, old-fashioned, real Kiwi camp grounds. Stayed for over a week on a tent site in the shades of big old oak trees, very nice. Perfect base to explore Whangamata, Waihi Beach and rural Waikato with the mountains, bush and river gorges. Extremely good rates, even during the summer. Also, free WiFi!!! But be aware of the cats, there are quite of few of them here :-)
