“A very enjoyable experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2011

We have just returned from a marvellous stay at Savannah Beach and lucky to be amongst the first guests after a new management team has taken over and refurbished the hotel.

Initially we were sceptical due to the earlier poor reviews but this hotel seems to have been transformed and the staff are some of the friendliest I have experienced. Unlike previous reviewers, we found the food very good at both the resturant and the beach bar and our experience of the service was good, if occasionally a little disorganised in a charming sort of Bajan way. As we were fully inclusive, I can't comment on cost as we didn't have to pay a cent for any of our food or drinks for the whole stay. The rooms were spacious, the king size beds comfortable and rooms were kept spotlessly clean.

I've not given it 5 stars as there were a couple of problems which other reviewers have also mentioned. One was a plumbing problem that flooded one of our rooms and the other was lack of a functioning safe. To their credit, as soon as the problem was reported, the management immediately got a team of plumbers and cleaners to sort everything which was done well and promptly.

The beach directly in front of the hotel is probably not the best for smaller kids as it is rocky in the shallows but it's absolutely fine for sun lounging and has the benefit of natural shade from trees on the beach. Within 2-3 minutes walk along the beach in either direction there are sandy bathing areas and a good surfing spot too. At the adjacent hotel (Amaryllis) it was possible to hire snorkelling kit for US $10 and different surf boards from between US $10-40 a day.

The hotel provided a free shuttle every 2 hours to the Copacabana cafe on neighbouring Carlisle Bay where it is possible to snorkel or scuba dive on wrecks with turtles in the marine park just off the beach. Again all the food, drinks, sunloungers and umbrellas were free to all inclusive guests as they are part of the same hotel group as Savannah Beach.

All in all we had a great stay and thoroughly enjoyed the company of the other guests who felt like old friends by the time we left. I'm happy to recommend the hotel to people who want a laid back vacation in a beautiful location but are happy to accept that things sometimes don't always go exactly to plan.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower floor surrounding the pool are cool. Specifically ask to make sure the safe works...

This hotel is currently being refurbished and as I work in the travel industry I wanted to take a look and see how it was getting on. So whilst I was hoidaying in Barbados I popped in to view it. The hotel itself is lovely. The style of hotel is typically colonnial an a little unusual but in a good way. The pool area is long rather than wide and a number of the hotel rooms face the pool. Some of ground floor rooms have direct access to the pool, so a really nice touch. There are only approx 80 rooms in total here. The hotel is directly on the beach but as mentioned above, the hotel & grounds are long rather than wide, but this is not a negative its actaully very nice. Yes there is still some refurbishment going on, the outdoor swim up bar was just being finished off and there was a sushi bar still to be complete along with the childrens club & spa facilities. But once it is done, it will be great. Completion is due Jan/Feb time. Tyrone, from reception was lovely and couldn't be more helpful with my unexpected visit - thank you.
There isn't much directly outside the hotel, so if you want shops or sightseeing, take the local bus (its only $2 for any trip on the island) or taxi. If you are into horse racing then this is the perfect location as the islands racecourse if opposite the hotel. They hold the famous Sandy Lane Gold Cup here, so great for star spotting I'm sure.
The beaches in Barbados are generally a little rough and this is no expection where this hotel is based but perfect for a variety of watersports and didn't stop us being in the sea.
I certainly wouldn't hesitate to go to this hotelyear next year when all the work is completed.
