“Family holiday”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

We stayed at the Savannah beach hotel 7th-21st July 2014, we stayed for two weeks. The hotel is very clean and the rooms very comfortable. We had room 367 which was a pool view room and you could also see the beach from our balcony.

We had read lots of very good reviews before we booked our holiday but feel that we could have easily been in a different hotel when it came to the reviews about the staff. We felt that if you upgraded to a blue band (this is a club upgrade which you pay extra for) which gives you little extras, you receive better attention from staff and they are much more friendlier towards those guests. Most of the staff are miserable in the restaurants and the bars. One thing that annoyed us was that you had to stand and wait to be told where to sit to eat but the staff would see you waiting to be seated and they would ignore you for a while then finally come over and direct you to a table. We have never known this before in any of the hotels we have stayed at in the past on various Caribbean Islands. At Drifters you can eat lunch and dinner at night. All the plates and dishes are plastic as are the glasses!! There is not a great choice of food but there is always something you can find to eat but it does get repetitive after two weeks. We were quite shocked at how small the restaurants were. The best bar is the one off Rachel's restaurant, the cocktails are very good but at Drifters bar the cocktails all taste the same. It's as if the bar staff do not know how to mix them properly. The entertainment is not very good either, some of it was ok. It is mostly singers.

The beach is nice but very shady in places. Plenty of sun loungers though. There is dead coral which makes it difficult to get into the sea without sea shoes. We felt that this would be better removed and this would make the beach much nicer. It also gets quiet smelly when it is exposed when the tide is out.

We did the submarine trip which was excellent. You dive to 150 feet and watch for the fish etc and you also see a ship wreck.

On the whole we had a relaxing holiday but a smile once in a while from staff would have made us feel much more welcome.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a pool view room which was worth it.

My first time visiting the island my sister's second time we stayed at the Savannah beach hotel on recommendation. Glad we did. The staff were very friendly, (Sharon, Linda,Tyrone,Keitha, Joanne (domestic)) all were helpful. The lunch time and evening meals, at Rachel's and Drifters, especially the fly fish, wonderful. Regular buses into town. This is where we will stay on our next visit. Overall will recommend to friends. Luv it.

We're just back from Savannah Beach following a 10 day stay. We are a family with 2 boys aged 11 and 14. We all had a great time. We were in an Ocean View room (327). It really exceeded our expectations. It was clean, large, a separate upstairs bedroom and a lounge area where the kids slept. The room wasn't fully ready when we arrived, no towels, beach towels, and most importantly no mini bar!! However, as soon as I called reception they immediately sorted all these things.

The staff in the hotel were great. I would really recommend upgrading to the Club option. You get much more comfortable sun beds on a decked area of the beach. This area is staffed by Jackie and Darius who were both fab! They are lovely people, friendly and fun. They also bring snacks and drinks when needed. Club also means your mini bar in the room is restocked on alternate days.

The most important piece of advice is that the beach is rocky outside the hotel. I would suggest taking some reef shoes with you. We went into Bridgetown on the second day to buy some as the hotel shop stocks very few. They are expensive though and cost £80 for all of us, you may be able to buy them cheaper in the UK. It's a shame the beach is rocky but you can do some snorkelling there. A five minute walk up the beach takes you to The Hilton beach which has soft white sand and great big waves, really good fun and public so you can use it.
Our youngest tried out surfing at a surf hut near the hotel. The kids club facilities were very good, although they didn't use them much. The club organised a football match with the local team and a volleyball game which were fun.

The food at Savannah is great, our oldest son is quite fussy but he always managed to eat well.
We ate at Chopsticks twice, the food is lovely and the staff great, especially Alicia.
It's really nice to get dressed up for dinner, most people do.

The only improvement we could suggest for the hotel is more provision of non-motorised water sports available at the hotel rather than having to travel to their sister hotel.

Overall, we couldn't fault Savannah Beach Hotel. We would highly recommend it and would love to return in the future.

Room Tip: Ocean View rooms are lovely

My family and I stayed here for 2 weeks and it really is gorgeous. The hotel rooms are spacious, the beds are extremely comfortable and the staff are all friendly and welcoming.
I don't understand all the negative reviews this hotel gets, it really isn't deserved. Neither me or my family could fault anything.
The hotel's restaurants are all lovely and the cocktails even more so. We found ourselves becoming regulars at the Drifters bar, where they serve drinks and BBQ food by the beach. A lot of people comment on the birds flying in, but again this is not something worth commenting on. The bar is open so it is expected birds will come in, but my family found them cute and fed them a few times!

There is also Chopstix which is also delicious and very pan-Asian. As a Japanese food lover, I was very pleased to hear there was a restaurant inside the hotel which served sushi.
We also visited the 3rd restaurant, called Rachel's. Nice breakfasts, good service but even better dinners. Safe to say, nobody in my family was disappointed because there is something for everyone.

The hotel does have a beach however it is quite gravelly, the best bet is to walk 10 minutes to The Boatyard, where we spent most of our time. The sand is much softer and there are water activities there too, as well as lovely food and cocktails!

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed at the Savannah Beach for two weeks all inclusive holiday booked through Virgin Atlantic holidays.

Welcome
Arrived after a long flight from Manchester. Check-in was simple and straight forward. However, the queue was quite lengthy and took some time. The receptionist was quite intent on ensuring a security deposit was gathered and informing us of additional charges if we lose the room key. A nice touch was the porter getting rum punches for those waiting.

Accommodation
The room was very nicely prepared for arrival and the luggage took no time in being delivered.
Staying for 2 weeks we found the maid service to be first class and the towels were changed every other day as promised. The TV service was of poor quality and we lost the satellite service for a few days at a time.
The bathroom was a bit tired and some of the bath tiles were cracked.

Restaurants

Drifters
Very nice to have your lunch and dinner here on a daily basis when open. Entertainment was featured here most evenings which was very enjoyable with some acts exceptional. As you can guess the music was mainly calypso and reggae. No karaoke or bingo included!

The cocktail list was extensive and over the two weeks there was plenty opportunity to sample them all.

Rachael’s
Ate breakfast here every day and dinner on a few occasions.
The breakfast was really good and could be as light or as heavy as you want it. The made to order omelets was a nice touch.
Dinner was good particularly on a Sunday with roast beef.
We were told more formal dress was required ie trousers and shirt, but dress shorts were acceptable.

Chopstix
We ate in this noodle bar on three occasions as the food was very fresh and tasty. This restaurant is not open every night and is limited to 24 covers. Highly recommended.

Beach Area
The hotel opens out right on to the beach which is really handy. There is a general beach and a hotel club section which you have to pay extra for which saves you walking to the bar to get a drink and has posher loungers.

While on the beach there was a fight on the beach between two jewelry vendors which was a bit scary particularly for the younger kids.

The beach area was cleaned and raked every day.

Night time was fascinating on the beach as this beach is one of the best beaches for turtles to nest on. We saw this with four different occasions.

Staff

The majority of bar staff were helpful and friendly but some were a bit sullen at times and didn’t seem to smile. On the first night after the long flight etc. my wife asked for “two local beers” to which the tall maître d’ stated “we only serve local beers” and stomped off without explaining it was a help yourself buffet etc.

Sometimes it took a while to get served at the bar as only one person was on the bar at a time.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this hotel which was small enough to get to know other holiday makers but also had enough different areas to be if you wanted to be on your own.

We will go back to The Savannah Beach Hotel! The people that work there are the friendliest and most helpful of any place we have ever been! They recommended and booked excursions for us and helped us rent a car. Our luggage did not arrive on the airplane until the day after we arrived and the people at the Savannah called the airline for us and took care of everything. We asked about the Rasta bus and they gave us advice as to riding it to Oistens for the Friday night festivities. We had a wonderful time and the Savannah Beach was a big part of our perfect vacation. The rooms were a good size- not too big and not too small. We had a nice balcony that we sat on to drink coffee in the morning. We enjoyed dressing nicely for dinner and sitting at the bar visiting with other guests and listening to good live entertainment. Many of the people we met have been visiting the Savannah Beach for several years. I think that speaks well for the hotel. I highly recommend the Savannah Beach Hotel!

Just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Savannah. Made to feel very welcome and special. The staff and management are like one big happy family and do all they can to make your holiday wonderful. Food is fantastic especially in Rachael's where a la carte dining is offered 5 evenings a week with waitress service, much better than the buffet. Lunchtime food in Drifters excellent first week but they changed it during our last week and it was just pizza/burgers/pasta very repetitive - the buffet / barbecue were much better at lunchtime. We had a fantastic room over looking the beach. Upgraded to the Club which was very worthwhile - looked after very well on the private decking by Jackie / Michael and Martin. Hope to return.
