An amazing weekend get away we would highly recommend.
The staff were friendly, helpful and quick to respond when needed. We enjoyed beautiful walks up and down the beach, swimming, lounging and stand up paddle board. The view from our ocean front suite was incredible - Barbados is a truly beautiful place and this view doesn't disappoint. Service at meal times and at the bar was efficient - just what you need to get you back out on the beach relaxing with cocktail in hand!

My partner is a lover of sushi and to be honest UMI wasn't my first choice, but fate intervened and I'm glad it did! The service was 100000000%, staff was fantastic and food was すばらしいです. I'm a local and will definitely be returning!!

Summer trip with the girls but there were some issues. Despite some of the downsides, we had a great time but would probably not visit this resort again. Some aspects were above average and some definitely not.

The Good
Service at the hotel was stellar. All staff were very accommodating and pleasant.
Food throughout the resort was overall very good. Good variety at all meals at the all-inclusive buffet and both upper end restaurants on the resorts property.

Supplied two beach towels and a beach bag to use but not all rooms had everything. Very accommodating if you asked for things but not consistently there.

Beach with very available lounge chairs with umbrellas placed for cover every day.
Ongoing rounds by beach waiter for drink orders or to supply frozen vodka Jell-O shots or amazing iced face cloths infused with Eucalyptus

Everything was easily accessible
Pool was perfect-temperatures very comfortable

Free Wi-Fi internet throughout property

The Bad
Airport info
When leaving to go home, according to which airline you are on, you may not want to come too early. Went early with friends leaving on earlier flights but American counter didn't even open for baggage check in until 12:30. Arrived at airport around 11:15 am and just had to wait around to check my bags in for a flight later that afternoon.

Sizzle- restaurant on resort premises but service was nowhere near as great as on the rest of the property. At dinner they brought drinks for one member of our party of 4- two drinks for her and no others. It took quite a while to get the rest of our drinks.
Never got one if my sides (salad that I was too full to eat anyway but it was never mentioned)
Open air restaurant with no ceiling fans and little moving air- it was uncomfortable to be dressed nicely without some type of air movement.

Spa closed for renovations-- offering Spa services in one of the hotel rooms

Rooms all need updating
No place in bathroom for " supplies "

Inconsistency in room accommodations- some with smaller TV and small desk with drawers and bedside tables, others with larger TV and only single drawer bedside tables
Only Some with laundry bag to use for dirty clothes
Remote for A/C not at all user friendly or understandable so room temp was an ongoing issue
Security for door leading to balcony was a single lock with mobility of the wood doors when locked

The Ugly
The first room I was assigned looked beautiful when I checked in, neat, nicely decorated room, swan out of towels on the bed, fresh flower decorations, etc.
The following morning when I got out of bed, I happened to pull back the covers and found multiple tiny ants crawling in the bed. I went to the front desk and asked that the room be fumigated and the bed totally changed. When I returned to the room, the bed was totally remade and it looked like it had been changed. I checked the sheets and there were still ants. I then checked the shelves that had all of my clothes and belongings (no dressers or drawers in the room) and there were multiple live ants crawling in all of my things. I went back to the front desk and asked that they change my room. This was done. The next room worked out well (only saw one palmetto bug which I was not alarmed about living in South Florida). I do have to admit though that I was constantly checking the bed and the new room for the same issue. Luckily, it was fine.

Room tip: No elevators in most rooms- three stories, older accommodations (true of most of the island)

We spent 7 fantastic days at the Sugar Bay Barbados resort. From our check in on Saturday 7/22 through our checkout on 7/29 we had exceptional service, food and treatment by everyone associated with the facility. The 3 restaurants at the resort, Reef, Umi and Sizzle provided excellent meals. We thought the variety of foods at Reef was very good. The beachfront was clean and the attendants were always pleasant and outgoing. The resort was spotless and always seemed to be maintained to a very high level. The public restrooms were always clean. Small items like cold, mentholated towels to refresh yourself on the beach were a welcome extra. Some people complain that there is not enough to do at the resort and for some that may be true but for our needs for a vacation of rest and relaxation we didn't need music playing until 1 am, we were perfectly happy that things wound down around 10:30 - 11 pm. We have rated the Sugar Bay a 5 star resort and look forward to visiting there again in the future.

We stayed for 16 nights beachfront and we had a fantastic time with our two teenage children. The food was excellent, always a good choice of meat , fish, veg and salad options. Umi and Sizzle were also amazing! The staff at the restaurants were so friendly and helpful. Staff generally were excellent, the few that aren't quite as friendly stand out as honestly the majority are amazing! My daughters bday, the breakfast staff sang to her and gave her a beautiful cake and the same again in Umi, so lovely. Sizzle did the same on my husbands bday and wine was left in our room. Really special touches! Colin's bar was great for a change at lunch time, my only criticism was that it wasn't available for four days of our stay, make sure it's open everyday! However the Reef was always available and stayed open for hours at breakfast, lunch and dinner, so never hungry. You can have crisps and ice cream throughout the day and then of course tea at 4pm with scones, cakes and sandwiches, which my husband loved! Never hungry! Water sports great, some good evening entertainment, but some nights a little low key. Virgo fab! I would like to see a bit more organised sport, volleyball etc and maybe make use of beach space at night. Only other moan, please don't cut trim the Almond tree all day, that was a pain! I would definitely recommend this hotel, beautiful people and beautiful beach resort!
