“CastelBrando, like a fairy tale with Live'r - a bar among the ancient walls”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2013

CastelBrando is situated in a magic surroundings in Cison di Valmarino. I've been there in December to visit my friends. Before the Christmas everything was floating in lights, like the highest pine in Europe. It was wonderful.
The castle and it’s environment is beautiful, the hotel room and the service was excellent.

The evening I’ve spent at Live’r – bar Donatello. This is an unique music pub in an enchanting surroundings among the ancient walls of CastelBrando. I can suggest it to all, who would like to complete his relax with a pleasant evening. Here you can enjoy a Live music at the weekends, during the year you can take part on a several special programme. The bar offers own special drinks and food. The young, dynamic staff insures the friendly atmosphere. It's together like a "favola".
So if you visit it won't be disappointed. You will spend there an enjoyable time with yours.

We couldn't figure this place out ! Grand beyond belief , history that makes Windsor Castle look a thing of the 60s , dungeons and attics but TV monitors all over the place promoting it as a conference venue and that you could get 50% off a pizza on a Tuesday !
Whoever is in charge of their promotion and marketing has to have a hard look at their offer and service. What are you trying to achieve other than guest confusion?
Our bedrooms were characterful if not a bit on the small size. Shower etc was tiny. Our windows were very high up so you actually couldnt see out of them which was a bit strange but actually for a castle probably the norm!
The place is incredible and spectacular. History , views , style , location and grand in every way. But if you want a coffee at 10.30 in the morning you have to take a trek through the building ultimately ending up in a Pizza joint. Everything was just that bit of an effort... you were made to feel guilty bothering or asking the staff about anything.

The spa had the ambience to be something very special but the staff were just plain rude and uncaring - it spoilt it. As did the fact that the relaxation room was freezing. Booking in etc was all a bit haphazard and when we arrived we were told to get our dressing gowns etc from the reception. "No you get them" ...which they did to be fair! Sorry next time my wife just wont book you to do a massage and indeed next time we'll bring our own couch with a breathing hole... you physically cannot give a safe shoulder and neck massage without a breathing hole. It was all very amateurish and again pretty uncaring. The brochure photos flatter the spa as the service and ambience failed to deliver.
One of our party was celebrating his birthday. The hotel agreed to lay on a special package for him at the restaurant (...the dreaded pizza joint). The meal was very very average and indeed our waiter got virtually everything wrong that we ordered. Indeed my wife's main course never arrived. I just ordered a pizza which ironically was the best meal out of the supposed four course "banquet".
However , a special mention must go to the Senegalese barman who was just so cheerful and helpful - the one bright service highlight to our stay and what a difference it makes.
So in short an incredible place with the most incredible potential but confused by Pizzahut style promotions , TV monitors everywhere self promoting the facility (..duh we're here already) and staff who think they are 5 star in concept but 2 star in delivery. Frustrating really because it could be really special.

That's what as I did as I lay awake waiting to drift off to sleep in my 600 year old room, on the garret floo,r of this old Italian castle. My irregular shaped, but spaciously quirky, single room has sheltered many, many people across the centuries and I wondered who some of them may have been.
Decorated in a period style. my very comfortable room lacked no mod cons. A compact but lovely and spotless travertine bathroom, ( complete with heated towel rail and illuminated make up mirror) king single bed, dimmer lights and plenty of storage. I did not have a panoramic view, but overlooked an inner courtyard. My dad's room across the hall ( very different to mine) looked up at the mountain top behind the castle, but to enjoy a vast vista a more expensive suite is the way to go.
I was part of a very select, boutique tour group who stayed there and was disappointed not to have a full day just to enjoy the open spaces an terraces that the castle offers its overnight guests. There is a delightful forest walkway to explore at the back of the castle, but I did not have time to venture far.
Dining there was a most elegant experience in the formal dining room. The attention to detail and ettiquette impeccable. On our second night we ate in the informal, but equally enjoyable restaurant on site. Our 1 hour tour with the delightful Valentina was fascinating. I am so glad I did not live in medieval times...scary. The breakfast spread was, in my opinion, the best I encountered in Italy. Lots of fresh fruit.
For a very different experience try CastelBrando. There is a room to suit a range of budgets, so enjoy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks outward not inward.

The staff at CastelBrando are either brilliant or dreadful. The wait and room staff are lovely, and the bar staff are way above average. However, the front desk and spa staff are rude and arrogant. My combined lift/room key did not work in the lift. When I returned it to the front desk, they simply put it back in its pigeon hole and gave me the other one, which also didn't work in the lift. Both were obviously well beyond their use-by date, but just as obviously, weren't going to be replaced any time soon. One night (and it's literally freezing in December), we weren't warned that we would be eating in a room accessed by a side entrance, meaning we had to leave the main building and walk around the perimeter. When told this we said we'd go back to our room for our coats, but the doorman insisted we go straight to dinner and all but threw us out the front door into the frigid night air. Either warn people of the upcoming situation or provide blankets or something warm so patrons don't catch cold.

Excellent place to feel the royal flavor. The hotel is bit outskirt of the city but very well located in terms of beauty. Very well maintained castle which still preserves the sense of authenticity. The attraction will start from the street driving you to the hotel. The reception is good and friendly. The wine celler is an added attraction. The rooms are ell decorated, maintaining historic atmosphere. The view is really nice and relaxing. Though the spa charge is not included in the hotel rate but spending few more euros can really make the stay more enjoyable. Love surroundings to enjoy in both day and in night. The food is also superb and a very good place to enjoy prosecco wine. Really loved the time spent here.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the main castle not in the extended/dependence rooms.

I was lucky enough to be a quest at CastelBrando. I spent a weekend celebrating "Australia Day" with the Italo-Australian di Venato group/organisation and chilling out in the spa, and saunas with a kind a generous friend.
It's worth all you pay, the food is divine, the vine in this region is very good and the rooms are also lovely. We stayed at the bottom, but have a cable car to take us up to the castle. For some this may be an inconvenience but the view from the bottom and taking the cable car is worth it. Cison Di Valmarino is a very nice little town. Great for hikes and perhaps if there was snow on the alps even to get to the snow fields??

Even so, take the time to go and have a spa I think it was roughly 20euro per person for 2 hours and a half. Worth it!

Room Tip: Remember if you want to stay at the castle, check! Because there is the ones below the Castle and t...

We spent two days in Castelbrando, we used the spa for a few hours and we had really a lovely time. Being there on the 30th of December it was quite busy, but we managed to use all facilities that we wanted to use. If you want to be sure that you can access the spa, you need to book in advance, don't forget. We had also a 3 course dinner and we found it delicious.
We stayed in room 705, it is huge, you really feel in an ancient castle room. The decorations in the room and around the castle are fascinating and they have been lovingly restored.
The breakfast was fine for me, but for my english wife, it would have been better with tomato and mushroom (there were only fatty bacon and overcooked eggs).
We have been in the bar located in the old cellars, it is really nice.
We have really enjoyed it, it is nearly perfect.
