My husband and i enjoyed 2 weeks at SP in may.It was our 2nd visit. we had a pool view and a terrace. the room had everything we needed but do remember to take your own tea and coffee as you only get a kettle, cups and spoons. the bathroom is a bit cramped and the towel holder above the toilet is a bad idea!!!.It was kept very clean.
we stayed on a board basis of 14 breakfasts and 6 dinners 3 each week. The food in the hotel was of a very good standard. We love this hotel its only a few mins walk from the gap and the location on the beach is unbeatable. The staff with the exception of reception ( who are as miserable as sin )are all great. If your thinking of packing your snorkel dont bother the sea is far to rough. Loved the coffee and cakes at 4.00 followed by a game of crazy golf. Hope to go back in 2016.

Lovely hotel, fabulous setting, would highly recommend this hotel, not the most modern but it more than makes up for that with charm and the location cannot be bettered. Staff are very helpful and always had a smile or wave. Room 238 is wonderful the balcony has superb views, had room service for breakfast a couple of times again all lovely.
Only used the restaurant once, there are so many wonderful restaurants along the Gap.
Would highly recommend this hotel for a lovely chilled holiday

Just got back 6th June for a 14 night stay at this wonderful place got to say this is the most friendly hotel i have stayed at barbados and stayed at a few on the south coast over the years i traveled as a family of 3 with my 7 year old son and i got to say this is a very family friendly hotel and the staff are amazing always a smile and always at hand and truly amazing people that do work really hard to say the least and make your holiday a memorable one at that.
Rooms are very clean and cleaned daily with fresh towels every day and very comfy though out
your stay.
There are two pools a smaller one and large one, we spent a lot of our first week at small one as there was always other little children there to play with my son and our room was that side of hotel but both pools great.
There is some nice entertainment that starts at 8pm most night and restaurant that serves very good food from breakfast to evening meal afternoon tea at 4pm and lovely cakes yum got to say. room service if you wish too. Also sunday lunch with the sounds of the steel pan very good.
Beach is amazing here sea red flag a lot of the time but down to the bottom less choppy just be careful with little children as i was with my son.
We even had the amazing time of watching turtles laying there eggs on two occasions which was a truly amazing experience as this beach is a nesting beach for turtles so you will be sure to see nesting of even hatching.
Also this is a very easy place to eat out get out and about and a very safe place to stay there are also crazy golf shuffleboard tennis courts water sports even beach toys for children in the shed as my son called it he really had a truly amazing time and met some lovely people that come back year after year to this hotel and i really can see why as we will return to S.P.
I could go on and on.
Thank you all at S.P for a truly amazing stay and to clifford, matthew, charles and everybody and hope to see you all in there near future.

I know people read these reviews because they wish to obtain an objective view of what a place is like and I will try and do so here with regards to the Southern Palms. I'll start with the negatives: -

I read on the Southern Palms website that all rooms came with a balcony - please note that this is not true so if you book the hotel on the strength that this is a given then you might want to contact them to make sure. My room did not have a balcony and this made it difficult to dry clothes and towels etc (difficult but not impossible!). The only other negative for me was that the friendliness of the staff was a bit hit and miss - some staff are so lovely and cannot do enough for you and others, although polite, kind of look right through you like you're really inconsequential!

I was also woken up every morning at the crack of dawn by a rooster crowing its head off! I don't know who this bird belonged to (or even if it was part of the hotel menagerie) but boy oh boy if you usually get up at 5 am in the UK, the last thing you want is a rude awakening like that every morning! Having said that, you can always catch up on your sleep on the beach so it's not all bad!

On the positive side: -

The beach is lovely. White sands, azure blue sea, palm trees, more sun loungers than you can shake a stick at and the hotel pools are not too overcrowded so you can always find a relaxing area to enjoy.

The hotel serves complimentary afternoon tea at 16:00 which is really lovely considering that this is not an all-inclusive hotel. And they bake fresh cakes to go with the tea which are absolutely delicious!

The rooms are well appointed with excellent air conditioning (much needed because it is HOT!), iron and ironing board, safe ($3 US a day) and a kettle with cups and saucers to make hot drinks if you wish (you will need to bring the ingredients for this with you however).

We did not really eat in the hotel restaurant because it's a bit pricey for a start but also the hotel is right next to St Lawrence Gap so there are plenty of eateries if you wish to find somewhere for breakfast, lunch and dinner and many of them are reasonably priced. Our particular favourite was the Harlequin Restaurant, about 5 minutes stroll away; beautiful, BEAUTIFUL food with customer service that is absolutely exemplary. Our dinner of choice was the blackened Kingfish - delicious. We loved this restaurant so much we went back there virtually every night.

All in all, if you want a relaxing stay in Barbados where you can suit yourself and not be a slave to the all-inclusive menus and timings of other hotels, then the Southern Palms will give you exactly what you need. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and I think you will too.

We have stayed for 7 days at this hotel and enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is situated directly on to the beach with a white sandy beach just a stone’s throw from our room. The grounds were well maintained and lights lit up the area of an evening.
The rooms are now past their sell by date, but still well maintained, but will need a complete refurbishment within a few years if they wish to compete with the newer hotels springing up all the time. The super king sized beds are very comfortable and the maid service is excellent.
The staff are very friendly, but was amazed when after check out a female behind the bar looked at me as if I had crawled out from behind a stone for wanting to pay in cash instead of putting on our room bill; which I couldn't because we had checked out. That was the only instance of surly service we received at the hotel and this person badly let down all her other colleagues who were excellent.
There is an internet cafe to connect to the internet which was fine, but the Wi-Fi was very slow and cut out quite a bit so if you need a fast connection, you would need to find another Hotel.
The entertainment was of high quality but very few people to enjoy them, which must have been soul destroying for the artists.
For your English breakfast I would recommend moonbay top right near the entrance to the road.
For evening meals I would recommend the Harlequin Restaurant and Cafe Sol, both sell quality food at a reasonable price. We also paid a visit to oistins which has a great atmosphere on a Friday night.
If you want a tour of the island I recommend contacting Calvin Yarde Tel: +1 (246) 426-0615 or email onthespottaxi808@hotmail.com. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and the tourist spots. It cost us 10USD each per hour and took about 4 hours. We would have had a bit longer but was on our last day so had to get a bit of sun bathing done.

Room Tip: We were in 317 which had a goof view of the pool and Caribbean and whit sandy beach
