As a family we regularly visit the island as my partner and his family come from Barbados originally, having moved to the UK and USA. We have a very large extended family and like to meet up every 2-3 yrs to hold a family reunion. Our last visit was in 2011, we stayed at the Divi Winds, just a few yards down the beach from Southern Palms Beach Resort, we often heard the steel band playing at spalms so decided to try it this year when we were once again planning the next visit for a family wedding reunion. We were not disappointed at all with the standard of room we stayed in. A complimentary bottle of Mount Gay waiting in the room, a breakfast basket & beach towels too, was a lovely surprise. But what really made the difference for me was the fantastic REAL bajan food, cooked the bajan way, spicey, flavoured. The hospitality staff, including the rooms service, security & maintenance were very helpful, polite & friendly, nothing we requested was too much for them. I have to say a big thank you to Matthew in maintenance who went out of his way to make sure our stay was a good experience. We have decided this will be our hotel of choice for our future visits and would recommend this to all our family and friends. Thank you everyone at s/palms!!!

Room Tip: we opted for a ground floor sea front studio. We looked out onto the beach. The door opened onto a covered porch area, large with tables chairs and loungers to sit on, light up at night so you could have friends over for drinks and sit outside, that opened onto a patio area that had a low wall and gate that opened onto the beach, it really was the best you could wish for.

I have been to Barbados 4 times before & rented apartments, first time in a hotel. This was great for the beach, we walked out of our room on the ground floor 50 paces & we were on the beautiful beach at St Lawrence Gap, if you wanted a more lively time in the bars & clubs they were a 5 minute stroll up the road, couldn't have asked for a better location

Room Tip: Try & get on the ground floor so convienient

Just return from Barbados had a great two weeks on the island. This is my third visit over four years. My first stay at this hotel not impressed with the accommodation, need updating the room I stayed in was small, small shower unable to turn around in, daily free evening tea was good some of the staff was friendly especially the guy who was cleaning the front garden and the fish and turtle/tortoise pond. The receptionist are pleasant some more than other - reception area need updating. Meals very expensive at the restaurant ate out all the time at other places. Was not impresses that as soon I looked out my window early on morning The lounge chair were already in use by sunbather

Room Tip: Avoid room in the older parts of the hotel

We stayed here in the last two weeks, the 4th time we've stayed at Southern Palms. The only thing that lets the place down is that it needs some renovation especially the ground surfacings.
That said there are more important things to consider, you would be hard pressed to find more friendly and helpful staff, from Reception to cleaners and inbetween. Lovely people, all of them.

Room Tip: 209 has a wonderful view of the beach and sea - hard to beat.

Just returned from Southern Palms Barbados. We had a wonderful time in what was an excellent hotel in every department. Location was spot on and right on a fantastic beach - as good as any on the island. Staff were helpful, polite and couldn't do enough for you.Highlights included swimming with the turtles who were regular visitors to the beach, going to the Kensington Oval to watch Barbados play cricket and the fantastic variety of bars and restaurants in the Gap. Oistins fish market is an experience and the friendly nature of all the locals made this a very enjoyable holiday. We even went to Church on the Sunday morning and had the privilege of sharing the local service.
Hopefully we will return to the island and would have no hesitation heading back to the Gap.
