“Great beach location and the best staff in the Gap”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

We have just returned from 10 days at this hotel. The staff and service were second to none (particularly Shantelle by the pool and Mellinda on the front desk). The staff could not have done more to be helpful, polite and charming. The walk to and from the gap is full of the typical Bajan personalities who are quite harmless, but you need to get used to them! The hotel is not cheap, but you get what you pay for - we had a huge two bed ocean view suite - it could not have been better equipped (maybe a little more storage space would have been useful). We'd all love to go back!!

Stayed at ocean two a few weeks ago prior to trip to US. All the reviews are spot on. The location, although looking a bit dodgy from the road, is fabulous with great views from the ocean front rooms.
The staff are generally great with a few exceptions and the beach service is fantastic. We had read a lot about the 'Gap' and were a little disappointed with the choice of restaurants but found a few that were OK. The famous Fish Fry at Oistins was OK if you like a lot of people and noise. We went on the Friday trip and although we had 'reservations' at a restaurant, they weren't ready for us so we were sent off for a walk around until they had space. In the end we went to another place and had a BBQ type fish meal which was OK but nothing special.

We had breakfast inclusive and were very happy with the food and service. Its not everywhere you can sit by the ocean watching humming birds while listening to nice music with your bacon and eggs.
The sea is not great for swimming by the hotel. Some people have mentioned a great beach just around the corner. We didn't find it but didn't spend much time looking.
The ocean front room was great and spacious. the balcony was a great place to read and listen to the ocean. It seems to be windy most of the time but not so much that blowing sand is a problem.
We did two trips. The catamaran which we enjoyed especially swimming with turtles which is exactly what is says on the tin. Big turtles encouraged to join you by the crew throwing titbits into the sea. Didn't see the 'wreck' that we snorkelled over but saw a few fish.
The other was a day trip by taxi ( presumably because there were not enough people for a bus) around the island and to the other east coast. This was interesting but we didn't find an awful lot of interesting places to see away from the coast. Bridgetown has some nice shops but we weren't there for shopping. I think the highlight of the trip was a ride in a reggae bus with about 20 other people crammed inside for 2 b dollars anywhere with very loud calypso type music and mostly shouting coming from a subwoofer under my seat!
Do it, you will enjoy. We had six nights which was about enough.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor ocean front. You dont want to be lower and higher better but thrid was fi...

I came here with 2 of my girlfriends (we are ranging in age from 29-32 years old) on what was supposed to be my honeymoon (don't worry... no tears here). I couldn't have asked for a better trip!!!

2 of us arrived on Saturday and we checked in with Romel... and can't say nice enough things about him. Check in was easy and quick. We were given very refreshing fruit juice... which was really nice after travelling all day. Then we were given a nice cold minty-scented towel. Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived... they offered us a room to use to be able to change into bathing suits and freshen up. We opted to have lunch instead. We ate at the restaurant. It was good. We split the bruschetta (YUM) and each had a different salad. We enjoyed everything. It wasn't cheap- but we weren't expecting cheap. Then we were told our room was ready.

Romel escorted us to our suite. It was GORGEOUS! We had a partial ocean view from our large balcony. The kitchen was beautiful. Granite countertops. Tastefully decorated. Stocked with every item you could need. We cooked breakfast in the room most of the time. I would suggest getting coffee somewhere else and brewing it in the room because The 'Velvet Hammer' just wasn't cutting it. Yuck. The living area was spacious and the layout was perfect. The bed was very comfortable. My friend said the pullout couch bed was also comfortable. The shower was fantastic (rainfall showerhead and a regular showerhead). Oh... if you have 3 people taking showers in a row the hot water may be iffy! Be careful and do not flush anything aside from T.P. down the toilet!!! We used baby wipes and they took a few flushes to make it down. Sorry if that is TMI : )

Anyway... The rooftop is beautiful and hardly anyone uses it! We had wine up there almost every night. The breeze was fantastic. The couches and chairs were wonderful.

The pool lounge chairs were more comfortable than my couch at home!!!

If you are in the pool area or on the beach.... every day at 11:30am... the staff comes around with 'lollies' or ice pops. The coconut ones were SO GOOD! We looked forward to these every day! I am going to try and make them at home. Then shortly after... someone comes around with peppermint misting spray and sprays you down to cool you off (much needed!). It was so refreshing. The sun is CRAZY strong and I wore SPF 50 and still got sunburn : (

A while later someone comes around with a cool towel... which also smells like peppermint.

These details were much appreciated and enhanced our experience so much!

The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Romel, Melinda, Jeffrey the bartender, Katie, Kevin, Corey... just to name a few... were key people in making our stay so wonderful. EVERYONE was great.

I am already eager to go back to Ocean Two. It was perfect.

My daughter and I travelled to Barbados for our first trip to the country to experience carnival on the island. From our arrival until departure the staff, environment, rooms and service were 5-star. The front desk staff went out of their way to answer our questions, provide a driver to take us around and went out of their way to make sure our trip was enjoyable. Ditto to the beach/pool/bar staff.

The room was clean, spacious and the size of the shower was big enough for a party of 6.... luckily it was only 2 of us. :)

Would definitely stay here again if I travel to Barbados.

We stayed here for two weeks in May 2014. We had been to St Lucia before and stayed in a hotel where you couldn't really venture out unless by car/taxi so were looking forward to somewhere where we could walk out and about to different restaurants etc.

Great in that it is only a 10 mins transfer from the airport. Hotel modern but very well decorated and maintained. View from lobby directly out to the pool and beyond to the beach so lovely setting. We checked in and were shown to a ground floor room (102). I objected as had specifically asked for a room higher up. They said they were full but might be able to change us in a few days. The room itself was lovely though - spacious one bedroom apartment with a very well stocked (equipment wise) kitchenette. Cot was set up in the bedroom. The balcony was larger than the upstairs rooms and led directly down a short flight for steps to the pool. They had obviously anticipated our arrival as they had a grey plastic (ugly) barrier across the steps (we had a just under 2 year old and a 3 year old). The plastic barrier held up for all of 5 mins before our 2 year old was sliding down the steps on his forehead - not ideal. We complained to reception again and they were very prompt in reinforcing the barrier (screwing it into wooden supports) - great although it meant that we had to climb over it - an actual opening gate would be better. After a day, we actually opted to stay in the ground floor room. We had thought it would be noisy - and to be fair, you can hear music in the lobby in the kitchenette/lounge area but not in the bedroom - the bedroom is amazing in that it is totally dark and you cannot hear a thing. The upstairs rooms are probably a bit lighter but the balcony has horizontal slats which can be climbed so they are not much safer unless perspex screens are put over the horizontal slats which they had done in some rooms. The pool was lovely - not big but perfectly adequate and there were always toys and balls around for the kids. The sea was rough in this area but not so rough I couldn't put the 3 year old on a boogie board and take her for a 'surf'. Beautiful sandy beach and they had a box of beach toys for the kids which they loved. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool and on the beach with umbrellas - we never had a problem not being able to get one. Because of the location, (south of the island), there was a lovely breeze which makes the temperature perfect- if you walk 10 minutes inland, you really notice the difference when the breeze is not so noticeable.

Surroundings - There is a supermarket directly over the road from the hotel (2 min walk) which kept us going for 2 weeks (has most things - fruit, veg, milk, cheese, meat, plantain chips (which we loved) a deli, cereal, sun cream, nappies and loads of other things) - we never needed to go to a bigger supermarket. From the hotel, it is a 5 minute walk into St Lawrence Gap with lots of restaurants, bars and gift shops. It is quite difficult walking with a buggy along the road as there are cars parked all over the pavement but never really caused us a problem. We really enjoyed eating out at the cafes and restaurants (we really liked Papa Dons, Harlequin, Sharkeys) - beautiful local fish - mahi mahi and flying fish.

During the day, there are hawkers who will pester you (and some of them very cunning with it) but they will leave you alone if you ignore them or politely say no. In the evening, there is a change with prostitutes and drugs being offered (mainly to men walking on their own) - again, just a polite no or ignoring is fine. Never felt threatened at night.

Evenings - if you had kids like us and you have to put them to bed at 7.30 (we put them to bed in our room - one in the cot, one in the bed - there was easily enough room for 3 in the bed so we just crept in and slept either side of our 3 year old - we didn't bother with the sofa bed although it looked fine) - room service was hit or miss. If there was event going on in the dining room in the evening, they did not do room service (happened about 4 times in our 2 weeks). There is no room service menu - it is just what is available in the restaurant. This is OK but would have liked to have been able to rely on room service as, after a day out with the kids, we were often exhausted and just wanted good food brought to us. When we did get room service, it was great though. One evening when the buffet was on in the dining room (and therefore room service wasn't happening), we did sneak out one after the other to the dining room and they let us load up our plates and bring them back to our rooms which was lovely - great food.

We had a fantastic rep (Nikki) from St James' (we booked through Prestwood Worldwide Travel) - she organised trips for us which were great - catamaran trip (wouldn't do that again with a 2 year old - just too restless), gardens, Harrison Caves (would highly recommend). We did go to the 'wildlife park' but it was terrible. It hadn't rained in Barbados for a month so there were no pools of drinking water for the animals - a deer had obviously jumped a fence and got into the wrong enclosure. There was no drinking water or food in the enclosure it had got into (which was deserted) and it was trying to sip filthy water from plant pots. I asked a staff member if they could at least just give it water but got brushed off. The macaws were in tiny cages. The massive python had no water. There was clearly a cayman (like an alligator) that was dead - glassy eyes, mud undisturbed around it which they hadn't spotted - I raised that with our driver and he alerted staff - they did check and admitted it was dead (goodness knows how long it had been dead for). Therefore, would not recommend going to the 'wildlife park'.

Overall, it was a lovely holiday in a great hotel. For me, I prefer a colonial style hotel and would opt for that next time. Also would aim for a hotel with a kids club for us next time - was lovely spending time with the kids but in 2 weeks, would be nice to have just 1-2 days to chill out just us. I believe that babysitters are available though if you wanted to try them (expensive rates though).

However, Ocean Two staff were a credit to the hotel - the phone was always picked up promptly and they always tried their best to help. The safe and coffee machine were broken in our room and they were very prompt in trying to sort things out. Romel especially was great.

Room Tip: If you like being able to 'swim up' to your room, choose an ocean front ground floor room. C...

Check in was relatively efficient. We were offered cold drinks and towels whilst waiting for the check in agent.

Check in staff were very young but for the most part polite and flexible.

We declined the $20 per night turn down service, having travlled extensively Ive never been charged seperately for a turn down service.

Watch out for the "optional" tourism fee added to the bill each night. Its not much $ but a shame its added rather than being really optional. They will remove it if required

Opted for the evening BBQ held on the beach. $80 Barbados each plus service charge. Food was mediocre at best. BBQ chef was rude and sullen after I had requested fish (offered by waiter). Eventually after I had eaten the salads my cold fish turned up. No drinks (other than tap water) offered. There should have been at least a rum punch included at that price point.

First night was dominated by the noisiest air conditioner Ive ever experienced in a hotel, I was offered another room after complaining but as we were staying only for a few days and had un packed, opted to stay.

Went for breakfast $40BBD each, reasonable selection of items but again quality was just average at best. Second day we attended breakfast the sullen member of staff who I encountered at the BBQ was allocated to man the omlette station. Its a real shame that given the general quality of staff that this individual is allowed to be customer facing.

We decided to use the restaurant on site one evening. At first we were the only customers. Once the appetizer had been ordered we waited at least 20 minutes for the chicken satay to arrive. Food was rubbery and frankly tasteless. I had chicken and the wife beef, again average at best. We passed on the desert

Spent a couple days lounging by the pool to never see the cold drinks and ice lollies as described by other viewers. Pool area good with loungers always available. Beach area very small and on all the days we were there the sea was too rough to swim in.

Overall we found the hotel ok, but I think its trying very hard to be something its not. Id rate this a three star maybe pushing 4 but nothing more. Need to focus on detail especially the quality of food in the restaurant. It lets the rest of the hotel down
