“Pleasant and Affordable with Ideal Location”
Reviewed 6 March 2011

This was our second visit to South Gap Hotel, and the stay was even more pleasant this time. The entire staff made us feel welcome and room issues were always quickly resolved. We've traveled the Caribbean for over 20 years, and we have never met a hotel manager better than Cecile, who bends over backwards for her guests -- and always with a big smile. For example, on Super Bowl Sunday, she made sure that the FOX affiliate from the States was part of the hotel cable lineup so that we could enjoy the game from the comfort of our room!
St. Lawerence Gap is well-known to be a party place at night (when food vendors line the street right outside) , and there are adjacent bars and restaurants. Yes, there is music which spills into the property, but it did not bother us at all in the room we were in for most of the stay (#120). There is also some construction at an adjacent hotel, but frankly we barely even noticed it.
The rooms are fully supplied with a large fridge, microwave (very important!), toaster, and cutlery. The shower water was nice & hot while the A/C was nice & cool. The hotel restaurant had delicious food (though the menu was somewhat limited) and the staff was pleasant and attentive. The maids were also friendly as well as thorough, and the front desk ladies were simply top-notch. The pool is large with sufficient seating and right on the oceanfront. Our balcony had ample room for a table (even for dining) for two, and we could enjoy not only sunset over the Caribbean but also stargazing.
Location is ideal, with a beach, bank, convenience store and bus stop (into town) also a short walk away. The grocery store and duty-free shop are about a 10-minute leisurely walk without any difficult grades.
With all of these amenities, it sounds like an expensive place, but in fact it is quite affordable -- not only for Barbados, but practically any seafront resort in the Caribbean!

I was introduced to the South Gap property by a friend and found it to be a clean and tidy property. The staff were attentive and the welcome phone call did not go unnoticed. The view to the sea was just magnificent and the facilities were enough for what I wanted. The food from the restaurant was tasty and plentiful. Having a kitchenette was a bonus! If you want to be right in the action of 'The Gap' this is a great spot, but I would not recommend this location if you were after a peaceful location day AND night. The party is on the doorstep! Great work team, keep up the good work.

South gap we thought being in the heart of the gap would be the ideal location, unfortunately we found out we were hassled 24/7 by locals trying to get us to buy stuff off there stalls and some of them being very pushy and insulting us if we did not buy from them. the local taxi drivers also hassle constantly. we found the local shop convenient and there is a one-legged man who runs a stall just outside he we found was the only friendly local who runs a stall and is always polite and friendly when you do not look or buy from him. the location is great for seeing the green monkeys who are often on the ship inn midday or just wandering down the street, its also great as your right in the heart of barbados' nightlife, if thats the sort of thing your after as we were. the hotel was clean, and beds comfy. it has one of the best bathrooms out of all the hotels i have stayed at. the staff were alright they were not rude but always seemed moody and never smiled. we had to use another hotels restaurant while we were there which was not a problem as it was lovely and we were happy we had a replacement restaurant to use while theirs was out of use for the week, so i cant comment on their own restaurant. the pool was often dirty, which was not very nice, and the amount of crabs that crawl around by the sun bathing and pool area was not to nice especially as one stole my shoe and put it in the sea, this was funny but annoying as they were a new pair. the rooms were always clean. the electric sockets were quite dodgy and sparked all the time and were loose and right by the water supply. which did not feel very safe. all in all this hotel i would not stay at again due to the staff, the safety of the electrics, the crabs, the constant hassling (which you do not get outside of the gap) and the dirty pool. its good points are its in the heart of the nightlife if thats what you want, great for seeing monkeys, nice bathrooms, nice rooms and comfy beds. and before i forget- we also found the hotel was dirty and shabby on the outside unlike the picture they use to promote it, and we were constantly offered drugs whilst staying in the gap

From our check-in to check-out two weeks later, we had the most wonderful time!!! The South Gap Hotel is a bit older but very friendly, super, super clean, located in the middle of St. Lawrence Gap - in the midst of many nice restaurants and bars. Lots of nite life too. View from our balcony was spectacular to say the least. We were right at the waters edge within 30 ft. or so. The little restaurant/bar on the premises has great food as well. There is a small beach next door that we were able to access - most of the time had it to ourselves. Also, Dover Beach is only 5 mins or so walk from the hotel. The staff, from the manager, front desk to the guest services ----are very friendly and nice. The place felt like home. We went on Williams 80 mile island tour - best tour we have ever been on and we have been on many. Well worth the money. Also did a sailing excursion - sunset cruise- was very nice as well. We will certainly be back many times in the future. Love Barbados!!!!!!

With annual trips to Barbados, the South Gap has been my hotel of choice for comfort and convenience for years. It's small and quaint, and emanates Bajan charm. The staff members are friendly and accommodating, and they always make me feel at home. The poolside bar and restaurant offers delicious meals around the clock. Special thanks to Andy for being a gracious host and making the best rum punches ever!

Beach time can be accomplished by a quick walk to Dover, or find a ZR van on the nearby main road for an adventure in Bridgetown. If you're looking for fun and nightlife, the location can't be beat. Being in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap, my friends and I only need to walk a few steps to find a lively bar.

Many thanks to the South Gap team for consistently making my stay so comfortable. Keep up the great work and see you soon!
