We have been on three holidays to Barbados, always all inclusive so very rarely do we go out for a meal. This year we met up with some friends and were invited to go for a meal at Shakers owned by a couple called Wes and Amy, who are lovely and who take the time out to make sure you are looked after and that you enjoy your food. WOW I had one of the best steaks ever. It was so tender and the marinade was to die for. I have tried to repeat this marinade at home but it never turns out quite the same. There is a good variety here and the food is wonderful. My husband had the fish of the day which was Kingfish and he said it was fabulous and he is a very fussy eater as he is usually a haddock and chips man. The food is fresh, daily, the service is second to none and the staff actually seem to thoroughly enjoy what they are doing, There is a wonderful relaxing ambience here. Most meals are served with salad and coleslaw, and either homemade chips or roast/baked potatoes. You will be hard pushed to have room for a dessert but try and force yourself as the desserts are excellent especially the crushed meringue with strawberries and cream. There is a good choice of food here and very reasonably priced. Shakers is a bar and grill so don't go expecting a la carte. However I must admit that the food was far better here than the a la carte at our hotel. We went back again a few days later and had a wonderful meal again. Whilst we were there, there was a lady and her friends who were self catering and who booked for the next three nights before they went home as they enjoyed it so much. Don't take my word for how good the food is, go and try it yourself . Shakers is not advertised anywhere ( but their phone number is in the directory, I think) as they have a good clientele and people find out about it by word of mouth. It is only closed on a Monday in high season and a Sunday and Monday in low season. If there are a few of you it is advisable to book but I know that they do keep a few open places for anyone taking a chance to get a seat without booking. They open at 6'oclock but I don't know what time their last order is. It is a bit out of the way but once you know where it is it's easy to find. On the main coastal road between the racecourse and St Lawrence gap there is a huge neon signed Sportsbar called Bubbas. All the taxi and bus drivers know where this is. Turn up the road this bar is on the corner of. Walk up to the bend in the road where there is a chicken place and turn left here and Shakers is a few yards up on the right hand side. Believe me it is certainly worth going to. Oh to be there tucking into one of their steaks at this moment. We will certainly be going back. Hope to see everyone soon.
