We heard about Shaker's (phone- 228-8855)perhaps three years ago. As other reviewers have noted it is tucked above the main road a short distance from Bank of Nova Scotia in Christ Church. Amy is gracious-ensuring her guests are comfortable and seated quickly; reservations are necessary as the number of tables is small.(perhaps 5-6 outside and 4-5 inside). Everything we have tried has been delicious; we were there three times this year and one of those was take out. While we waited for our order Amy suggested we walk over to Joan's rum shack for a drink which was a good suggestion. We certainly recommend Shaker's for the food, service and prices. For example:
Bajan prices...
Beer battered flying fish  $20
Grilled catch of the day  25
Beer Battered catch of the day. 27
BBQ chicken  25
BBQ ribs. 38
Steak 38
Surf n turf(Steak and Shrimp) 55
Apps:
Samosas 12
Flying fish fingers 11
Mozzarella sticks 14
Shakers Platter( sample of above )35

Had dinner there recently and was disappointed with the service - the food was good, although portions a bit small for such a run-down, local imitation of a restaurant. The staff were rushing us off, as we were the last table there and they problably wanted to leave. The waitress was actually standing over us waiting to clear our plates, and a second one actually swiped one off the table without asking if we were finished. When we complained, she was rude and actually said that her boss does not like to see empty plates on the tables (unbeliveable!!) and that we should have said that we weren't finished!!!. The drinks are very over-priced - same as you would be charged in a big bar or club and when my sister ordered a 'LLB' drink thinking it would be the normal carbonated drink in the bottle, an awful house concoction was presented to her at a charge of $5 which tasted like spolit juice!!! they never even told us it was made in-house and offered a choice. Had my 'shaky' experience there and wouldn't ever return. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone - its a dump, and imitation restaurant with high-priced drinks and awful service.

We have been on three holidays to Barbados, always all inclusive so very rarely do we go out for a meal. This year we met up with some friends and were invited to go for a meal at Shakers owned by a couple called Wes and Amy, who are lovely and who take the time out to make sure you are looked after and that you enjoy your food. WOW I had one of the best steaks ever. It was so tender and the marinade was to die for. I have tried to repeat this marinade at home but it never turns out quite the same. There is a good variety here and the food is wonderful. My husband had the fish of the day which was Kingfish and he said it was fabulous and he is a very fussy eater as he is usually a haddock and chips man. The food is fresh, daily, the service is second to none and the staff actually seem to thoroughly enjoy what they are doing, There is a wonderful relaxing ambience here. Most meals are served with salad and coleslaw, and either homemade chips or roast/baked potatoes. You will be hard pushed to have room for a dessert but try and force yourself as the desserts are excellent especially the crushed meringue with strawberries and cream. There is a good choice of food here and very reasonably priced. Shakers is a bar and grill so don't go expecting a la carte. However I must admit that the food was far better here than the a la carte at our hotel. We went back again a few days later and had a wonderful meal again. Whilst we were there, there was a lady and her friends who were self catering and who booked for the next three nights before they went home as they enjoyed it so much. Don't take my word for how good the food is, go and try it yourself . Shakers is not advertised anywhere ( but their phone number is in the directory, I think) as they have a good clientele and people find out about it by word of mouth. It is only closed on a Monday in high season and a Sunday and Monday in low season. If there are a few of you it is advisable to book but I know that they do keep a few open places for anyone taking a chance to get a seat without booking. They open at 6'oclock but I don't know what time their last order is. It is a bit out of the way but once you know where it is it's easy to find. On the main coastal road between the racecourse and St Lawrence gap there is a huge neon signed Sportsbar called Bubbas. All the taxi and bus drivers know where this is. Turn up the road this bar is on the corner of. Walk up to the bend in the road where there is a chicken place and turn left here and Shakers is a few yards up on the right hand side. Believe me it is certainly worth going to. Oh to be there tucking into one of their steaks at this moment. We will certainly be going back. Hope to see everyone soon.

What you see is what you get. Shakers is on a quiet street and looks exactly like a friendly caribbean small bar and restaurant. Unlike many other restaurants, it had a nice mix of vacationers and locals. The owners and staff work very hard and are very friendly. The reasonably priced fare is not fancy, but it is quite fresh, well prepared and delicious. We would not hesitate to recommend Shakers to families and couples looking for a casual, reasonably priced and authentic Bajan dinner.

I have been to Shakers twice now and both times the food and the service has been good. Dinner for two was roughly $100 BDS so $50 CAD. That included a glass of wine, beer and a shared appetizer. A great value. It's not easy to find but its worth the effort.
