Owner description: The Whisky Castle has been selling the finest malt whiskies of Scotland from its premises in the quaint village of Tomintoul for over 100 years. It is located at the gateway to Scotland's Malt Whisky Trail. Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland and The Whisky Castle is the highest whisky shop in the UK. Your hosts Sam and Scott, along with their team Maureen, Kirstin and Lauren would be delighted to welcome you to sample some of the finest Scottish malts and gins Scotland has to offer. We have over 500 malt whiskies with many being single cask, independently bottled and from small batches. We provide a unique tasting experience from a fantastic selection of products allowing us to match a malt to your palette and budget. Our single malts are personally selected by us with many being non-chill filtered so you are assured of some of the most unique drams from across Scotland including limited and rare collectables. We also stock some whiskies from distilleries that have closed and also those that have been demolished and lost forever! We also offer lager, beers, wine, champagne, vodka, gin, port, brandy, sherry and many Scottish liqueurs. There is an extensive gift shop and 18 seater café in our Highland Market serving hot food all day. We offer a full range of Scottish gifts, toys, unique jewellery and country clothing to suit all tastes. When you get the chance to visit us you will be given a traditional warm Scottish welcome and if you are looking for something extra special that we don't have in stock we offer a sourcing service and we can have your item shipped direct to your door. All of our products can be bought online. We love reaching out and spreading the word about the fabulous Malt Whiskies of Scotland in their natural state where there is no added caramel for colouring and whiskies have not been chill-filtered for clarity and/or diminished in flavour for consistency.

Lots of fun and a lot of info at this little shop, The owner is a hoot and very free withh his samples. Be prepare to buy something. The owner is a good guy who will chat with you about life, travel and whisky while pouring wee drams of the good stuff. How can you not buy something ? Fun and no pressure. Good restaurant across street.

An amazing find! Cathy is extremely knowledgeable about her whisky and even managed to teach my husband a thing or two. Will certainly be calling in again next time we pass.

For some strange reason i thought this was a shop in a castle as opposed to a simple whisky shop!!

The owner - Mike Drury - is really entertaining and very engaging. He'll regale you with stories of his past and how he came to own a whisky shop on Speyside - whilst also allowing you to sample a wide variety of whisky.

I bought a limited edition bottle of Mortlach after having tasted it and others. Mike was very willing to explain what to look for in a whisky, the different approaches of different distilleries and the way the flavours were instilled into the whisky.

There came a point when i thought he was wanting to close a sale after having provided numerous tastings. He got his wish as i bought an expensive bottle.

Unfortunately I priced the same bottle £10 cheaper at the whisky shop in Dufftown.

Though This shop was more expensive you get a getter experience and so if you want a more rounded look at Whisky with banter and advice then go here. If you know(ish) what you're after then this shop is much more expensive than elsewhere.

My wife and I spent a most enjoyable hour or so one Sunday afternoon last September at the Whisky Castle in Tomintoul. The selection of single malt Scotch whiskies is truly mind-boggling many of which owners Mike and Cathy Drury have open for tasting. Mike is a very amiable and super knowledgeable host. He is also very generous with the tasting samples. We came away with a couple of excellent independent bottlings recommended by Mike and we will be back for more next time we are in the area. Highly recommended for any whisky lovers on the Speyside whisky trail.
