Our family have used this hotel for some years now for family get togethers. The hotel is always clean and rooms are very spacious. The restaurant is to be highly recommended as are the function rooms-we held my grandmas 90th birthday celebrations here and ths service was excellent. Good hotel ideally located to Tilburg without being in the heart of it.

I booked two standard rooms for a family short break end October '12. Having stayed at the Van-der-Valk in Volendam, which was superb, I had high expectations. Unfortunately the 'standard' room, although very comfortable, was a little aged. Don't take that the wrong way, it was warm with comfortable beds (which creaked loudly) and carpets, but the bathroom was in need of a major make-over, even if it was clean and tidy. The shower, toilets and bath were of the '70s. The shower only scored 6/10 on my system, being let down by a fixed nozzle (I prefer one on a flexible hose), two taps to regulate flow and temperature (archaic) with no thermostatic control or anti-scold valve. Plenty of hot water though and the door didn't leak on the floor, as so many do due to poor design.
Our room also fronted onto the motorway, about 100m away, but despite some background noise in the night it didn't prevent me from sleeping.
The reason I chose another Van der Valk hotel was because of my previous experiences with their hotel pool and their restaurant. Here the Gilze Rijen didn't disappoint. There are actually three indoor pools together; learner, children's and adult, overlooked through windows from the sports facility bar, so great if you have older children who want a dip while you have a drink. The pools are always attended by the pool/gym staff who also work behind the counter. The changing rooms are spotless with good lockers having electronic security locks which can be used without putting any money in a slot. The gym has a huge variety of up-to-date equipment at E5 per session, but the pool is free to residents.
In terms of the restaurant, the quality of food provided seems consistent with the previous Van der Valk, ie; very good. However, make sure you book an 'Arrangement' which includes breakfast and evening meals, which are good value for money. If you pay for a room only and buy meals separately they will be expensive in comparison. The V-de-V website has many of these offers available throughout the year, but note that the 3-day deal I found was only available on the Dutch version of their website, having been omitted from the English version !
The restaurant staff were always very busy and sometimes orders took a little time to arrive, but not too long. Despite this they were friendly and helpful, although one floor manager was short with me when I reminded him some drinks hadn't been delivered for 15 minutes. That sort of thing is forgiveable, I'd be whacked at the end of a shift doing their job, so a little slack doesn't go amiss.
Would I stay here again ? - Yes, but I'd ask for a room facing away from the motorway next time. Will I stay in a Van-der-Valk again ? - Yes, but I'll filter my search for hotels with a pool !

Room Tip: Book an 'Arrangement' with inclusive breakfasts and evening meals for excellent value for mo...

Quite a good hotel almost on the Highway with facilities (the swimming pool was great, and also the fitness room)
Positive things : close to many places, Breda is nice, moreover for the best sushi place Neri Sushi) Tilburg, Antwerpen,... We slept in the modern area (the old one is attached to the hotel restaurant and bar, and it looks very old and not that nice). The modern part/annexe is really beautiful. Breakfast was good enough and fresh orange juice. The prices at the restaurant are nice, its relevant with the food (not a 4 stars but good enough). We've had a nice staff, very sweet lady at the restaurant in the evening. The room was very clean and newly refurbished, had also a great bathroom.

Negative points : we had a balcony but all the views are directly on the streets and the higway, plus the car parking... So not that beautiful, and noisy. our room was sort of "on the ground" floor with very big window to go outside, so if you dont want anybody coming in your room at night while you sleep, it's better to close it. But the problem is other windows in the room could not be opened, so we spent 3 nights sleeping without fresh air and this could be frustrating for some people. We had no fridge in the room, the TV was in front of the bed and could not move, but it was really too close to the bed, couldnt watch without a headache but in holiday its not that important.
If we'd had to go again in Noord Brabant, we would go back in Gilze Rijen.

Stayed here three nights last weekend. Got a good deal from Expedia: 70 Euros per night, plus 2 Euros per person per night tax, including breakfast and 1 hr of wifi per day,.

Good points:
Room is very spacious and clean. Big and comfortable beds. Bathroom is massive, must be at least 30m square on its own. Separate bath and shower, and a very power shower indeed.
Breakfast was of high quality and lots of choices: fresh bread, good coffee and self-serving automatic orange juicer!!!
Check out was quick and easy with plenty of smiles.
Swimming pool was nice, clean and warm.

Room for improvement
The check in lady was not very patient nor courteous . I was allocated a ground floor room which I did not like. Asked her to move us to higher floor, there was room but she could not cracked the computer. Hence, NO move. Also, asked for upgrade, and she said the hotel was full, and I got a “cheap” deal anyway!!!. I checked the hotel’s and Expedia website, clearly there were plenty vacancy! Not too honest staff.
The windows are of single glaze. Must be very cold in winter and did not cut any noise out.
Bathroom, although comfortable, need some update to bring it to the 21st century.
No tea and coffee making facilities, nor mini-bar in the room.
The opening time of the swimming pool over the weekend was ridiculous: closing at 18:30 on Sat and 17:30 on Sunday. No swimming after a long day out.

Overall a good hotel. I would have given 4 stars if the check in process was more friendly.

Stay one night on business when all the hotels in Tilburg were full. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a reasonable size. The downsides included the absence of a mini-bar or tea/coffee making facilities, the 24 hour internet charge is steep and the decor is a bit dated.

The restaurant food was to the usual good Van Der Valk standard, and whilst the staff were generally very friendly, our waiter was grumpy, gave the impression he didn't want to be there, and of course got some of the orders wrong.

Overall good value though and I would be happy to return

Spent a weekend here to visit the nearby Efteling. We booked a package incl dinner and were given a family room with living room and 2 bedrooms. The kids LOVED the swimming pool and the staff is very friendly. Parking is easy too (and free).
