“A Classic and Spacious Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

The hotel was chosen as a venue for 29th ASEAN Teachers Convention (ACT) by hosting country Malaysia. The teachers conference was held in October 2013. We stayed 3 nights in this beautiful hotel as participants. The hotel is very spacious and beautifully decorated. It also has beautiful surroundings. There is no shopping centre nearby but the hotel provides regular shuttle bus services to The Mines Shopping Mall and to Kuala Lumpur City Centre. There is also boat service (RM8 per trip) to The Mines Shopping Mall. So you would be able to do your shopping either at The Mines or in Kuala Lumpur. The hotel room is big and spacious and can sleep 4 persons easily. However we found the room carpet is stained and does not look pleasant. The toilet need to be maintained and improved. So that the hotel can maintain her 5 status. You could capture many nice pictures of the hotel and sceneries from the hotel. This hotel is very close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Staff were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The rooms located near the horse race course are more noisy.

An unscheduled stopover at Kuala Lumpur due aircraft technical problems meant that we were put up overnight by Malaysian Airlines so we didnt arrive until 0100 hours and left 6 hours later. It is unreasonable to assess an hotel in such little time but the presence of so many cockroaches at breakfast caused me to write this brief review. The breakfast room was packed so as there was so little fuss the problem may have been confined to the corner of the room where we were. Needless to say we left pretty sharpish with our appetites having somewhat diminished by the sight of so many cockroaches. Not much more that I can say other than the hotel looks quite upmarket and grand. The bedrooms are well equipped and spacious. Bath and separate shower and well equipped with toiletries etc. Tea and coffee making facilities somewhat spoilt by the presence of small ants around these facilities. It certainly appears that this hotel needs some fumigation treatment. Not sure why they put us in this hotel as it is nearly an hours drive from the airport. Probably the only hotel with so many vacancies to cater for an aircraft passenger load. That in itself is somewhat worrying.

Before departing for our stay at The Palace of the Golden Horses I read many reviews which to say the least, were not very flattering at all! How wrong they were. We had a very enjoyable stay and all of the staff from Amir, Front Office Mananger, to the band and Get in the Lobby Lounge could not have been more pleasant or helpful. We had a truly lovely stay, so please don't believe everything you read in reviews. Would not hesitate to go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade. You never know how lucky you might be!

We were here for three nights due to a conference. A huge hotel, in fact with big potential, but somehow it had a very dated fittings and furnitures. Even paints on the walls and doors were warned out. We had two rooms. One of the rooms had air-con not working properly. The other room had a very noisy ventilation system and table lamp not functioning.
We did not manage to try the gym as it was not opened 24hrs like some five stars hotels we stayed in before. They opened between 7am to 10pm. We wished that it was open at least from 6am so some guests could do some workouts before breakfast and still had enough time to attend
early morning conferences.
Breakfast was fine but nothing great with not much selection. But considering the breakfast rate, it was still value for money for a five stars hotel.
The staffs were polites.
Location of the hotel was a bit out of the way. Busy traffic outside at the high way as we arrived on the first day. There was a small shopping mall near by. One had to prebook the free very limited tranfers, that passed through a small road via a gated private residential area with many beautiful bungalows by the lake.
We felt that this hotel was probably not suitable for tourists unless the management did a complete 'facelift' or renovation. Hotels in Bukit Bintang, Sentral or Mid Valley City areas would still be our prefered choices for business and leisure travels.

The Hotel: Looks good from the outside, huge lobby, professional staff, good customer relationship management, beautiful building with nice scenic view from the lobby overlooking the garden

The Car Park: Not very clean. Once inside the car park, it doesn't look like it belongs to a 5 star hotel, more like a 3 star car park. It was a bit smelly as I think there was a leak from the sewerage pipes, dripping down on the car park. A portion of the car park was sealed off due to the leak. Looks like the portion has been left unrepaired for many months.

The Lobby: Nice lobby but not enough place to sit down and relax. When I walked in, the limited seats were taken and I had to remain standing while waiting to be checked in.

The Room: The rooms are large and has a very nice ambience, however, I feel that the rooms are old and maintenance could have been better. The carpets are stained, some burned marks on the carpet, probably caused by a hot iron. The bathroom walls were stained, perhaps not cleaned properly, which makes it look old. Only basic bath towels were provided, hand towels and face towels not provided. Shaver and tooth brush not provided. There were a few mosquitoes in the room, not sure how they got in.

WiFi access in the room: Only 1 device is allowed to be connected (either phone, ipad or laptop), I didn't expect such a restriction in a hotel like this. I have stayed in 3 star hotels which has provided unlimited access.

Swimming Pool: Looked good but I did not have an opportunity to use it as it closes at 7pm. I saw a few ladies in the pool with a full attire, not sure if regulations were imposed to only allow proper swim attires.

Summary: Certainly not up to my expectation of a 5/6 star hotel for the price they charge.

Room Tip: You may want to check the rooms first to see if they are acceptable. Perhaps a request to view the r...

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday at this amazing resort. It was great looking at how horses have been incorporated into so many elements of the architecture and furnishings, Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and were able to help us with transport and tours. Rooms were very quiet, clean and comfortable. Walks around the resort were very tranquil. The boat ride to the Mines shopping centre is worthwhile. Food at the Carousel was reasonable and the local food choices very enjoyable. This was our 1st holiday booking with RCI and were thrilled with everything this resort offered. Would recommend this resort and would certainly stay again.

I stayed at this stunning hotel for four nights when at a recent international conference. The building is impressive and if you are a horse lover then you will appreciate the horse 'theme' throughout the hotel. Life sized galloping horses in the forecourt of the car park and horses at the gates are only a taste of the horse emphasis inside. The marble floors have horses tastefully adorning the design as does the domed ceiling in the reception area. Many of the fittings have horse carvings and even the toiletries in the bathroom were in horse shaped bottles. While some of the decor had seen better days, the staff attention was good and the restaurant served an excellent range of European and Asian food at all meals. The bathrooms were well appointed with every necessity catered for and the lighting was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms a good size. My main criticism would be the poor light in the bedroom. The room was lit by a standard light, a table lamp and the bed side wall lights but this was not enough and this was impractical. There was good security at the hotel all the time and access to the floors was only by using a room key in the lift to activate the floor required. There was a well equipped gym and a large outdoor pool. While the hotel could do with a little updating nevertheless I would stay there again and receommend it. It is not close to the city centre but there is a large shopping mall within close proximity if needed.
