Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Situated at the Heart of the Battle of the Somme (1914/1918), the Somme 1916 Museum of ALBERT traces the lives of soldiers in the trenches during the Franco-British offensive in 1916. At 10 meters below ground and 250 meters in length, you will discover realistic and grasping scenes of the daily lives of our soldiers. Mannequins are brought to life through twelve realistic scenes transporting you to the past. Time passes but the memory remains. The museum is translated into 4 languages using panels (French-English-Dutch–German), and can also be guided by one of our guides in any of these languages.

“disappointing”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

I was expecting this to be very interesting but for some reason it did not grab me in the way other places in the area did. It has a collection of artefacts and there is some information but I was rather struck by the attendant attitude who seemed to tire of tourists. I felt I should apologise for interrupting whatever she was doing on the computer.
Perhaps the town is weary of the battlefield tourist????

“Albert Museum”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

Very informative and gives a real insight in to the dreadful conditions of life in the trenches.
Plenty of memorabilia to see.
See also the Church next door with the 'Golden Madonna'

A good place to visit prior to visiting the ' Circuit of Remembrance'

Also the Tourist Office staff opposite the museum were very helpful and helped plan our days visit to the Somme.

“jam packed with artefacts from the Somme.”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

This museum is unusual because it's underground which adds to the atmosphere.
It has lots of interesting exhibits, the only downside is the stairs. We took my 84 year old father in law and he struggled to get down and up them at the beginning and end.

“Battlefield Tour”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Very humbling when you visit the museum that pays tribute to the "missing" soldiers of World War 1. Would recommend that we all should visit this museum and other monuments to show our appreciation that allow us to live as we do today at great cost to those who fell.
