Owner description: Situated at the Heart of the Battle of the Somme (1914/1918), the Somme 1916 Museum of ALBERT traces the lives of soldiers in the trenches during the Franco-British offensive in 1916. At 10 meters below ground and 250 meters in length, you will discover realistic and grasping scenes of the daily lives of our soldiers. Mannequins are brought to life through twelve realistic scenes transporting you to the past. Time passes but the memory remains. The museum is translated into 4 languages using panels (French-English-Dutch–German), and can also be guided by one of our guides in any of these languages.

We came here on the morning we were leaving and were not disappointing. The museum is in Albert and is underground. There are excellent displays throughout the tunnel and the noisy exit goes a little way to helping you understand the horrors of constant bombardment. Be warned that the steps down into the museum are quite steep and may be difficult for some people.

Visited this museum this afternoon. Easy to find with plenty of free parking outside. It costs 6 euros and will take about an hour to get round. A short film at the beginning then you walk through the trenches seeing/reading the various displays which have been very well put together. A small souvenir shop at the end of the tour.

Well worth a visit.

A unique location for a museum and one that works very well for its WW1 focus. Even my wife who said she didn't want to look at "a load of rusty old bits of iron" really enjoyed it! Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

You enter the museum through centuries old 10 metre deep 250 metre long tunnel. The walk along the tunnel is awsome, the displays are realistic and gives one a feeling of life in the trenches during WW1. There is a great collection of weapons, military equipment and personal souvenirs. The displays are well set out and signs are in several languages including English.
Highly recommended to those who have an interest in WW1, the shop is well stocked with souvenirs

I very much enjoyed this experience. Lots of things to see and the tour is naturally flowing from entry to exit. It has a lot of examples of weapons, uniforms and at the conclusion leg you get a very light sample of what ti could have been like.
