This place is worth hunting down as it is just up in the old town and not one of the tourist traps near the harbour.

We came here for a birthday as my partner and I just love seafood and this was highly recommended.

The service and ambiance was perfect, yes some of the prices are high for lobster based dishes but we thought our mixed shellfish rice broth was out of this world and enough for four people let alone two.

Bill came to over €100 but for a special night of amazing food and outstanding service you cannot go wrong here.

Highly recommended.

We are reasonably foodie, and, having had a couple of very disappointing (and expensive) meals on the seafront in Fornells - including one which had been recommended in our guidebook which was dreadful, we decided to try Es Cranc, which is slightly off the beaten track. Hidden in the old town, rather than on the sea front, it doesn't have the view to fall back on, but instead relies on delivering good food - using local produce, cooked well - with friendly, efficient service. It was a little bit like going back in time, but in a good way. Inside it is white, simple and rustic. It was very busy compared to the other places we ate, with Spanish customers as well as other nationalities, and had a great atmosphere - the sound of people enjoying their meals. The food was fresh, generous and well cooked. We ate there twice, both times from the "menu del dia" - not an innovative menu or large selection, but just what we wanted - traditional dishes, using fresh local ingredients. The menus (at 15 or 18 Euros) included wine/soft drinks, plus water and coffee or pudding) so we didn't pay anything extra, even though, for four of us eating from the set menus, we had 4 starters, 4 main courses, two freshly squeezed orange juice (not Minute Maid), a bottle of very drinkable white wine, mineral water, and two puddings. Everything we ate was good, especially the refreshing gazpacho, perfectly cooked mussels, mixed paella with plenty of shellfish, and delicious lemon sole - although the sole did come with (reasonable) chips. The staff were really welcoming and remembered us when we returned, and the waiter was great - a big hit with our two daughters. We are looking forward to returning to Fornells, and will definitely eat at Es Cranc again.

We have visited this restaurant many times over the years and have never had a bad meal.
When you arrive you are greeted like a member of the family. Even if you are a first time guest you will still be met very warmly.
There are 2 set menus available, one at €15 and one at €18. Both are 3 courses and include wine, water and bread. A lot of tourists go for this as it is excellent food at a reasonable price.
However the a La Carte menu is massive with every possible choice. Most,of the Locals seem to go for Caldereta, the famous lobster stew, which is served at the table in a massive earthenware dish. It is VERY tasty! Not cheap but you get what you pay more.
The restaurant is tucked away in a side street one street in from the water, closed on Wednesdays.

Es Cranc is a must for any visitor to Fornells. I have been going there for over 25 years and the food is very good and excellent value. Their grilled sole is the best in Menorca and is on the menu d'el dia, which is available except in high season. All the staff are very helpful and the whole atmosphere is extremely friendly. Highly recommended for an enjoyable lunch or dinner.
