“Perfect Getaway ! It's Quiet with very few English”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

This part of Menorca is simply stunning, we have just returned from an all inclusive stay at the Adela Playa Apartments, a family of four with (10yr & 18yr old)and as we had not been to Menorca before and this was going to be a last holiday before my 18yr old would be doing his own thing in Ibiza! next year, we thought it would be a good thing to push the boat out and go all inclusive. The apartments are in a beautiful location close the beaches, apartments were YES basic but did what we wanted it to do, hot water was plentiful and beds comfortable, there was a constant supply of clean towels pretty much on a daily basis, pools were great and everywhere was very clean. As we had looked at reviews from other's with a few negative remarks, we were a little apprehensive at first, but we are so glad we did, peoples expectations vary greatly! but this area of Menorca is quiet so if you are looking for a lively setting then this will not be for you.
As mentioned by other reviews, English families are very few and far between, which was lovely, I didn't want to sit and listen to English arguing about who was getting the next round of drinks in, the entertainment is centred around the Italian traveller but still played English music around poolside on occasions. The town of Fornells just a few miles out is a must to visit with lovely harbour and cafe's to enjoy the mandatory jug of Sangria and buses run every 1/2hr or so form the resort. The food at the resort! well, we cannot fault it, we enjoyed all the meals that we ate and food was of plenty, as we did not use it all the time we found being all inclusive a bit restricting with the set meal times, we did eat out. Staff are very friendly and helpful too. The Joker bar next to the apartments served good food and prices were not too expensive. We will hire a car next time as this is a must if you want to see more of the island, buses are frequent but can be expensive in my opinion, it cost us E18.20 to got to Ciutadella for four one way E36.40 return! car hire per day is not much more. We intend to return to this beautiful island very soon and to this resort (maybe look at the Carema Villas on the hillside) as we want to see more of what Menorca has to offer, this Island is unspoilt and retains it's Spanish identity with very friendly people and stunning countryside.
Can't wait o go back..

Room Tip: Go for the Aldea Playa rather than the Camera club, you will be closer to the beaches, if you can ge...

This is a little gem! Travelled with family of two small children (3 & 1 years). It's a great location, close to the beach and easy busy ride into the local town. The self catering apartments, although basic, have everything you need. Mainly Spanish and Italian guests, rather than English which was great. The food was also great, one of the best European all inclusive I've experienced. A bit strict about what you can and can't do with drinks I.e taking them back to your room, but other than that had a fantastic time and most likely to return again.

This is a two part complex. We stayed at the lower level nearer the beach, self catering. The accommodation is basic but OK. Rooms are a fair size. There is a two ring hob, a coffee percolater, kettle and a microwave. If you stay on the ground floor like us watch out for the resident cats that will enter your appartment uninvited. The big pool is cleaned and clean but heavily chlorinated and not heated but fine for the regular swimmer. Only had one change of towels and those that are provided are small. Unfortunately you dont know when they will be changed and if you leave the towels all hung up they won't be changed. If you put them on the floor you might have to pick them up and use them again. We would not recommend the Joker cafe on site based on other users comments. The restaurants nearby are excellent and will be reviewed separately. Watch out for the season end. The all inclusive restaurant closed while we were there part way through some peoples holidays. The nearest beach suffered from being clogged by weed following storms. If you go across the land bridge to the next beach (not far) it is well worth it. A gently sloping beach that would be great for kids but swimmers have to go quite a long way out. There are loungers and both beaches are life guarded until the end of September. It was quiet when we went as it was at the end of their season. There is no air conditioning but there were two fans in our appartment.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the sea or the larger pool. Some rooms do have balconies with no view...

Just been on a recent trip here spent five nights in self catering. The apartments were basic but clean. Towels, bed linen changed every two days. It was a very spacious apartment and found the views amazing. There is a supermarket on site which is very useful. The beach nearby is lovely. There are two pools on site which were very cold!. The facilities suited us but i would recommend eating at the three restaurants up the steep hill directly opposite the apartments the food was amazing. If you want peace and a relaxing holiday then go here it is family orientated I went late season so it was very quiet. I very much enjoyed my stay here found it very good value for money but it does seem like its in the middle of nowhere!.

We visited Carema Aldea Playa between 31.08 – 8.09.12 on All Inclusive Deal.
I’ll try my best to share with you my honest opinion and experience of the place, service and atmosphere.

Check –in was quick and efficient. Before arrival we asked for early Check-in, double bed and sea view. Even though the check in was from 15.00, we got our apartment at 11, with nice view of the pool and sea.
We stayed in the apartment number 308 with small kitchenette and living room area with sofa bed, table, 19inch TV just with Spanish and Italian speaking channels –the only English speaking channel Sky News. Upstairs was bathroom and bedroom with two single beds joined together - not very comfortable for the couple. The apartment was basic but comfortable, it could be cleaned a bit better. During our 8 days stay our towels were changed once and bed sheet not at all. No A/C or fan in the apartment. No soap in the bathroom. Good hairdryer.

The Carema Complex consists of two parts (located across the street from each other) - Carema Aldea Playa Appartments and Carema Club Playa with one reception. The reception, restaurant, cafeteria are located on the Carema Club side. There are two swimming pools on Carema Playa side and one large on the Club Playa.
The beach towels were rented for €5 (non-refundable) + €10 deposit. The change of towel costs €2.
Near the hotel there are two beaches, the first one is very small and dirty, full of seaweed dry and wet, because weather wasn’t the best at the begging of our stay all the rubbish and seaweed were pushed on the small beach, which wasn’t cleaned for days. You can reach the other beach by the wooden stairs across the hill, which is clean and lovely. Be prepared to pay for sun beds and umbrellas on the beach.
Near the hotel there is a small shop where you can buy mats, umbrellas and towels – probably cheaper than renting.
Outside of the hotel there is the bus stop from which you can take buses to Fornells, Es Mercadal (and change for the bus to Ciutadella – very convenient), Mao – cheap and easy to use.
Short walk from the hotel, up the hill are located three restaurants and second shop. Apart of that area is very quiet and not much to do.

Restaurant:
Breakfast 8.00am – 10.00am
Lunch 1.00pm – 3.00pm
Dinner 7.30pm– 9.30pm

I have to admit that food was very testy, especially lunches and dinners; Lots of fish, different kinds of meat and vegetables to choose from. There was a big influence of Italian kitchen (pastas, pizzas, cannellinis, lasagnes etc.). Good choice of white, red and rose wine and beer as well as soft drinks. Wines were pre – opened, so we weren’t 100% sure if they weren’t re-filled with wine left by others.
A big downtown to the eating experience was greasy crockery which weren’t cleaned properly with food debris on them. Staff didn’t seem to enjoy their work; they were walking between the tables like robots, working very hard from the morning until the evening with just one day off a week. Most of them there were on practice with very low pay so I’m not surprised that they didn’t provide the same quality customer service as found in the restaurants.
First time in my travels I experienced such a small selection of Breakfast – large choice of sweet breads, muffins and croissants and not much else – tray of over-easy fried eggs, bacon, Danish salami, mortadella, chorizo and two kind of cheese. I was missing the omelette station as wherever I travelled there was always one even in Asia.

Cafeteria/Bar:
Open 10.00am – 11.00pm
Good service, all drinks were served in small plastic cups no matter if drunk inside or outside. Luck of locally produced gin (Xoriguer), pomada or horchata de chufa – in my opinion the local specials should be available to try.
In all inclusive option Espresso Coffee, bottled water and bottled drinks were excluded.

The overall atmosphere and entertainment
70% of guests are Italian and hotel mostly caters for them, a very big downtown that In Viaggi entertainment team is Italian and they ignore different nationalities. The evening entertainment, daytime games etc. are run in Italian, by Italians and for Italians. It was quiet weird experience for me to go to the Spanish Island and hear mostly Italian not Spanish language. There is not many Spanish staff in the hotel, mostly Italians, Cubans and Eastern Europeans. .. Usually during my holidays I like to experience the local, native feel and somehow I missed that over here.

My holidays were ok, but I wouldn’t use this establishment again. By writing this review I tried to be as objective as possible, I hope it helps. I also attach photos of the complex and the area.

And one more thing in the complex there are many cats, I didn't mind because I love them and have two cats myself :)

Loved our apartment with large, south facing, private terrace overlooking wonderful countryside towards El Toro @ Es Mercadel. The towels & bed linen were changed every two days. We had a new shower curtain & crockery - not the shabby stuff we'd expected, from previous reviews. We appeared to be in an ant free zone, due entirely to the efforts of the diligent staff.

The supermarket was at the foot of our hill & sold fresh bread, pastries & veg. Not noticably expensive & very well stocked. We were impressed. We mostly self catered but often ate out in the evenings @ one of the 3 restaurants/bars at the top of the hill - 3 mins away.

We intended hiring bikes but found the terrain a bit hazardous & screey. Instead we did a fair amount of walking. Recommend the Cami de Cavells path towards Binimel-la. It goes most of the way round the island, but we got as far as the beach that once had a bar (about 6 miles). It took 3 attempts to make it to Fornells via the coastal path - one attempt took us to the top of the hill with the tv mast! It's easiest picking up the route from Torre de Fornells & walking back to the resort - we walked to Fornells via the main road on this occasion. Not unpleasant but not a patch on the alternative!

We loved the swimming pools which were improved by the presance of the Italians. The music was good & not too loud & there always was a lovely atmosphere. The sea was gorgeous. We don't like lying on the beach so would usually use the closest beach & swim round to the other more popular one. The kite surfing looked amazing but dangerous!

We do however feel All Inclusive deals are spoiling this resort as businesses have cloesd down all around. It's a shame that the beach bars around the headlands are now defunct

We had good 4 days here; it's split on 2 sites, very near each other & lovely pools & right near beach, which looks lovely but we found quite dirty. Clean accomodation, although lots of ants around! Towels & linen changed twice in 4 days - v.good. Does need air con as so hot. Food fine in restaurant, we were s.c. but b&b, paid to use restaurant for lunch & enjoyed. Only downside we found is nothing to do locally, so took bus to Fornells which we loved. Entertainment on site is geared to Spanish guests & we noted no effort to include Brits!

Room Tip: had a room on ground floor near back, probably nicer near the pool if you have children who want to...
