We have recently stayed in a 3* Hotel in Manchester (the Castlefield) which was better. Room size – Insufficent space to walk around the bed without hitting yourself on the bed or the Wardrobe. Storage space not enough for 6 nights. We did not unpack our suitcases. Room facilities – No tea or coffee making facility, No Mini Bar (Fridge) and the bed had 2 half sheets to cover the mattress. After we complained this was changed. Toilet – a knack was required to stop it filling up, but after we mentioned this at reception it was repaired. Unfortunately the damp smell from the shower did not go away neither at times did the water except when it leaked out from under the tray. Indoor pool would be better described as a v.small plunge pool. Fitness room -no running machine free weights fixed weights cross trainer mats . Garden – needs TLC! Relais du Silence Not – Guests arrived at all times across a pebble covered court yard including delivery vans to the front door. Restaurant – good service and food. Staff try to assist but are limited.

Room Tip: Good enough for 1 night. No more

I got with my couple a gift consisting in a night to choose between some hotels in France, and we choosethis one because of is location. Its in an excelent point if you are planning to go and visit the Chateaux de la Lorie route...Of course it helps a lot if you have your own car or you rent one... other wise is a little bit difficult to go around...

At is origin it was a 3 stars hotel, and now they are 4...at least they are improving....We missed things like the bathrobes in the chamber (you have them for the spa!)

The ambience in general is charming, the service its really nice thanks to the personal, they are few but good...The breakfast at the bedroom is a must! ...The restaurant is nice it seems to be a place with a great ambience in summer... we went in march, and it was like winter (this year has been cold in France)...so there were not a lot of turist around.

The restaurant, for dinner, has few dishes, they are ok, but unfortunately in this region you dont have a local gastronomy... so if you do visit the charming castles that are around... as Amboise or Chenenceaux.... you shall probably dinner around before going back to the hotel. by the way there is a good creperie at the entrance of Chenenceaux castle!

The Spa is small but nice, correct for a place like this...we enjoyed the massages!

Stayed one night here on our way back home from the Dordogne. The receptionist who came to show us the room could not have been friendlier or more helpful. She had not been there long so was not sure about easy access to the restaurant, so found out and came back to tell us in person rather than ‘phone. As it happens, the restaurant is across the courtyard and up some steps, so we rather hilariously ended up driving the short distance round to the accessible entrance. Again, the staff there were really helpful and accommodating. The food was very good without being fabulous. There was a good choice at breakfast including hot things: bacon and scrambled eggs, although we got the last of the egg which was a bit dried out by then and I don’t think they replenished it.

The room was very comfortable: they are all themed to different cities – ours was Lhasa so had interesting decorative touches. The bathroom was a wetroom and was huge! Although the place is a Relais du Silence, there was a fair amount of traffic noise, although not during the night, and you could hear the local primary school, but it wasn’t a problem.

We didn’t sample the bar or sitting room, they were a bit lacking in atmosphere as no one else was in them, nor the spa but I would recommend this place on the strength of what we did see – a well-run, comfortable place with excellent staff.

Our group of 15 people stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel was arranged by a European hotel specialist. Le Domaine des Thomeaux was very disappointing for a number of reasons. With a group of this number we had access to many of the rooms. We also heard varying comments. Some of our guests were happy with their room but the majority were not. Some rooms were adequate and some were substandard. One was very disappointing as it has next to no natural light. It had one tiny window in the ceiling. It would not be possible to read in this room due to the very limited natural light. As tour leaders we swapped rooms with our guests and took that one ourselves.

Many of the rooms on the lower level have an odour of sewerage. These are the rooms that backed onto the main village street and faced the courtyard. Some were quite nicely decorated so it is a pity they were let down by this odour. I understand the traffic noise was noticeable in these rooms.

The man who was supposed to do the porterage was grumpy which was not a good welcome for our group.

The hotel was very short staffed which put stress on the only staff members available. Everything we wanted was a problem. We wanted to arrange another room to replace the inadequate room. "No possible". (The hotel was not full). One guest wanted a coffee facility. "No possible". Is there something that can be done about the smell in the lower rooms? "No possible". Can we have beers at the bar or in the garden (as advertised) "I will be there soon". It took 3/4 of an hour to be served because the staff member was the only person who could take reservations, answer the phone, deal with all requests, serve at the bar. We served our subsequent drinks ourselves. Everything we asked for was answered with a "no possible". I was amused when one of our guests walked through reception on his way to the bar area and I heard him singing the old Perry Como song "It's impossible". We were pleased to see our guests had a sense of humour.
It was also poor management that the only time we saw someone in charge was when we were boarding our coach at the end of our time at the hotel. Even though we had asked to see someone in charge previously.
The food at the restaurant was good on one night but very poor the only other night we ate there. The breakfast was good some mornings and lacking replenishment on the last morning. Overall breakfast was fine. There were many occasions when just one staff member was at the hotel - which resulted in a very stressed, unfriendly and negative manner. On other days when there was another staff member to take some of the load - she was much happier. But by then we were over asking for any help. The price of the hotel is good - but that is relative to what you get. This is the first negative comment I have ever had the need to write. But as a fellow traveler I feel it important to share such experiences so others are forewarned and can make an informed decision. Weigh up the inexpensive pricing with the poor service and hopefully choose one of the better rooms. The hotel photographs are very complementary. The hotel rooms are not all as good as they look in the photographs.

Room Tip: The Tyrol room looked okay but the ceiling slopped as it did in many rooms and bathrooms. This meant...

All in all the hotel is not bad but the fact that our baggage was unexpectedly moved to another room is not great at all. When we returned to the hotel evening for a sleep the staff informed us that we were moved. Which basically means that they had to touch our personal things. For example my hand watch ended up in a locker somewhere in the hotel which was placed there by the staff since they thought it was valuable or something. Not to mention that the room they moved us to was CHEAPER than our original one.

Room Tip: Make sure that they won't move you to another room while you're outside the hotel.

I have stayed at Domaine des Thomeaux on 2 occasions. It's a good 3 star country style hotel with interesting "themed" rooms that vary in size, but are comfortable and well equipped. The location in Mosnes is good as a base to explore the Loire chateaux, although there is nothing really around there so you have to eat at the hotel or drive to Amboise. Breakfast was good in the hotel restaurant. The main let down for the hotel is the staff who are average at best and dont really want to put in much effort. The woman running the restaurant is a bit of a dragon, which is a shame as it is a nice setting and the food is actually quite good.

This is a large house set around an impressive courtyard with rooms in what would have been stable blocks. Very warm welcome and convenient place to store bicycles. Our room was in the attic of one of the stable blocks, so although picturesque, there was hardly any natural light and I'm glad we were only there for one night. Facilities were all good, although watch out for the strange joystick tap on the hand basin. Guests have half-price entry to the spa, which was pleasant. Pool not big enough for swimming, unless you use the resistance jet for power swimming.
Restaurant was excellent and would suit all budgets. Carefully presented dishes and a lovely flair for using surprising ingredients to make a dish a little bit different. Breakfast relatively expensive but with a big choice and high quality food- make your own fresh orange juice and excellent coffee. Great location for the chateaux along the Loire.
