We went to Relais du Plessis in August. After reading some negative reviews we were a bit anxious about our stay having booked for a week. However after a long drive from the ferry we were pleasantly surpised by the resort. We found the lodge to be very clean, well equiped and with a pleasant balcony overlooking the pool. The resort was well situated for many places of interest in the Loire such as Azay le Rideau, Chinon,Tours. We took some food with us as we were self catering, however there was a supermarket about 5 mins walk away, which sold everything including clothes. We would not hesitate to return to the resort.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs with a balcony would be preferable.

Apartements, where you have to clean yourself. They are quite new, but the workmanship is not good. The pool is too small compared to the number of guests. Overall it is poor value. Terrible service. Not recommended

We stayed for week during June 2012. We booked Relais du Plessis for the price and self catering aspect. On the website the complex seemed a pleasant looking place. Our apartment was one bedroom and was decorated to a modern fashion, There was an open sitting room kitchen area, separate toilet and bathroom. The apartment was also clean and we were aware before we went it was up to you to clean the place at the end of your stay. The onsite restaurant was helpful for breakfast on the first morning. It was close to a La Marche supermarket (2-3 minute drive) which made it easy to stock up on food. The centre of Richelieu was a short walking distance. The town was very quiet and quaint, however it did have a couple of nice bakeries and bars. The staff at reception were helpful and either had a good grasp of English, or enough to communicate what was needed. The complex was very family orientated, however the noise levels were low with not too many shrieking children. The kitchen was poorly equipped for self catering. There was a combi microwave and hob, and that was all! The combi microwave couldn't toast a fly even if it tried. There was no kettle to boil water, so we used a pan. Considering this place plays on its virtues on being a 'green resort'. Having to use a hob for hot water is not as efficient as a kettle. The kitchen severely affected our ability to cater for ourselves. The weather was poor at the time, the little heater in the room was really useful for keeping us warm. I would imagine in hot weather the apartment would keep cool. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but would not use the place again due to the kitchen facilities. (Beware the killer orange slugs, they love baguettes)

Great resort and strating point to visit Loire Castles as Azay Le Rideau, Ussé, Chinon or Loches.
Great services, Apartment was clean. However rooms are realy small. Bring your Corckscrew. Very usefull when visiting the Loire and have a bottle opened when getting back to the room.

I went over to Richelieu for a friends wedding, there were four adults and one 2yr old. It is a fair drive from the airport (Tours) by hire car, certainly over an hour but on arrival we were rewarded with a cool beer by the pool and the weather was excellant.
They served food but it was a bit of a let down although i think we may have ordered a bit late (Only 9pm.) so they made it clear they were doing us a favour.
The chalet was fine, very 'Ikea like', my parents took the double room which left me and my husband to the fold out sofa bed in the lounge. They provided a cot which we had specified on the booking only after we asked at reception. The first cot didn't work after a good 45 minutes in extreme heat with an irrate 2yr old. On our second attempt they assembled it in reception for us, which took them a good while too. We put our daughter in the bunk bed 2nd bedroom as we wanted to be able to keep her out of the way and in a quiet space, the cot only just fit in the room. I can imagine that with two adults in this room it would be very tight and no where to really put your bags.
Breakfast was continental (funnily enough) but plenty of fresh fruit etc, i didn't go in the pool but it looked good with plenty of sun loungers.
Outside of the chalet was a table and chairs which was really nice and where we spent most of the time.
I would certainly consider going back, it didn't rock my world but it was an excellant base for our short stay. I can't imagine how I would feel if I spent longer there as I'm not sure there would be enough to keep me busy- this may be a plus point for some.
Over all it was clean, friendly and good value, they could just do with improving the food facilities but you always have the option of self catering in your chalet.

Only 3 hours drive from Paris (if you don't count all the stops for snacks and stretching), the resort is purely family-oriented place! Very neat 2 storey cottages of 1 and 2-bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen allows you to save your money on restaurant food. Speaking of which, the restaurant is on the premises and the food quality was very decent, and price not too high. Children have a sort of animator, she keeps them busy, and they show some children's movies in the evenings. (only in French or Dutch though).
Swimming pool could be a bit bigger, but other than that, it's a wonderful place to relax in a complete peace and quiet. Children and adults can rent bikes (or ride their own!)
The air is so pure and sweet you just want to keep on breathing!
We had a very good time!

Apartment booked for 6 people and it was too small for 6. No cupboard space for 2 people; towel rails for only 2. Bed made up for only 2 people. Nowhere close to walk to. No shop on site nor close enough to walk to, so dependent on dreadful service in bar, restaurant and take away. 2 hours to wait for place in restaurant and 1 hour to wait for take away. Take aways served to people out of order. Didn't even have wine glasses in bar and that took ages to go and get. Reception, bar and reception managers couldn't care less attitude + rude. Shut ice cream kiosk leaving 10 children in queue without ice creams. Seemed like no noise insulation around apartments.

Room Tip: Room at back overlooking fence - not a bad view.
