Be careful the website can be quite deceiving!
We booked the Serenity Palace Villa thinking that if we paid luxury money we would enjoy luxury surroundings, furniture and fittings but this was not the case. Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was the shabby outside furniture on the veranda at the front of the property. Nothing like the beautiful modern rattan furniture on display in the main website picture showing the front of the Serenity Villa. When you arrive you soon realise that all decent modern furniture is actually in the Neptune Villa next door, which incidentally, we had tried to book as our first choice but was told it was already booked. You see, you will never be able to book the Neptune Villa as it seems the owner actually lives there and has all the lovely modern rattan furniture in his villa and has made good use of it in the website photo’s. If you don’t mind shabby and dated outside furniture that has seen better days, then this is the place for you.
We paid good money, £3,000 between three couples for the Serenity Villa in August and were expecting luxury furniture and fittings. Well you would with a website giving itself the name Adonis Luxury Group of Villas. We were disappointed that it did not come up to our expectations , the loo seat in the upstairs bathroom was broken, the showers in both of the bathrooms were not of high standard and were the hand held type showers.
There were wasps all around the eaves of the villa that come out at about 10am in the morning and hang around the grill of the pool all day long, loads of them. So you had to be extremely careful whilst trying to get in and out of the pool. There is a wasp nest in the eaves above the upstairs balcony, which incidentally has no table and chairs as the website picture shows. However, you probably would not enjoy sitting out there because of the wasps. You certainly would not want to sit there and watch the sun come up or eat your breakfast out there.
When we arrived, after a long day travelling, some of our party were keen to get in the pool and cool off. It was not until they got out it was evident some of us had blue paint on our bodies. Upon investigating , we found that the rim of the pool must have just been painted before our arrival and it was still wet in places.
Serenity Villa is on land with about three other villa’s. Two of these have dogs that are kept outside, probably for security and they are very noisy. Especially during the early hours when you are looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep. It seems as though once one of the dog starts to bark, all the other dogs in the surrounding neighbourhood starts up from miles around.
If you don’t mind sleeping on a rack you’ll be fine as all the beds are rock hard. My husband had to sleep on a fold up bed as he found it much more comfortable. Two nights I lay awake all night with the uncomfortable beds and the sound of the dogs barking.
The villa is in quite a remote area surrounded by olive groves and is miles away from the beach. I’m not so sure that it is 2km away from the beach, you certainly could never walk it, especially in the height of the summer sun.
We only see a maid once and that was when we were four days into our 7 day break. We arrived at the villa about 6pm but the owner wanted to try to get us out on our final day by 11am. We complained that we were not getting our full 7 days and he made a compromise with us and allowed us to stay on until 4pm, as long as we vacated all the upstairs. However, the maid turned up dead on 11am and hung around making it obvious she was waiting for us to go. Eventually she left and we made the most of our final hours around the pool.
If you do book, be sure to take tea towels, dishcloths etc., as these are not provided. Also, the glassware is very basic and there were no wine glasses, even though the owner is happy to tell you about the wine merchant down the road.
The stairs are not recommended for young children, they are marble and there are no hand rails either side, the stairs are completely open and even our party of adults came down them very warily.
The bedrooms are very dark and dingy not bright and airy as you would imagine them to be, not so good for those girlies out there who like to put on a little bit of make-up without coming down to dinner looking like Bridget Jones when she had to put her make up on in the car.
There is no outside bin to store your rubbish in, so this stays outside your apartment until the owner disposes of it for you.
Would we ever return? It was not as luxurious as we were lead to believe and so we probably would not.
