Myself, my partner and our 19 month old daughter have just got back from the El Greco after 7 nights stay. This was our daughters first holiday abroad so we wanted a fairly quiet and safe place to stay that wasn't too overwhelming for her.
HOTEL
Firstly I want to address the reviews on here mentioning "chavs". It is a 3 star hotel, there are a range of working to middle class families who were enjoying their time on holiday.Everyone was friendly and nice to us. Such reviews are probably from people who walk around with their noses in the air and I found those reviews very misleading. If you don't like the fellow holidaymakers that you feel you are so above book yourself into a 7 star. The same goes for the reviews complaining about the staff, a friendly "Hola" or "Gracias" to them and a smile doesn't go amiss.
Rooms are very clean and staff are very friendly particularly the waiters and waitresses who made a fuss of our little girl. The Scottish lady on the reception was also very nice and welcoming on our arrival. The playroom on the terrace above the swimming pool is a really nice idea. Its open every day except Mondays from 10.30 am to about 5.30 pm. Parents do have to supervise their children.
The only two downsides were that were was no fridge in the room to keep our little ones bedtime milk cool. The other was that the food was a little repetitive and by day 5 I was getting fed up of having the same things, albeit small variations on each night. The food however was nice and of good quality especially the meat pie, yum! I have put these two downsides on the questionnaires we were given as possible things for improvement.
Yes there are lots of steps but it wasn't a great hassle carrying little one up and down and plenty of other parents were doing the same. There is a way of avoiding the steps to some extent by going out of the front of the hotel and turning right past the neighbouring hotel down the ramp then down another ramp onto the sea front promenade.
The entertainment wasn't fantastic compared to previous holidays we have been on (however these were 4 star Carribean holidays before we had little one, to be fair) but it was fine. The entertainment team did do a good job and they were very nice. The children did seem to enjoy it although our daughter was a little too young to join in. Entertainment ended at 11 pm as does the all inclusive (you have to pay between 11 pm and 12 midnight) and everyone was told to be quiet by 12 midnight which I think was really good idea as a number of hotels do not have this policy.
We didn't go in the water park as children under 5 are not allowed in there which is understandable but it looked really good for older children.
PORTINATX
It is a very picturesque and quiet place, that has three beaches, the larger beach is where the hotel is situated. It is a very safe place for children as there are no major main roads and little traffic. The hotel is situated in a tiny cul de sac. To get an idea we walked around the whole of Portinatx in about 40 minutes. There are probably around no more than 30 restaurants and bars. Vincents and Del Boys being the main two bars. Once you have walked around there isn't really much else to see but its a very safe place to be and walk around and perfect for little children.

All in all a beautiful, very safe place ideal for small children, a lovely 3 star hotel of good value and if you take great pleasure in lazying the day away on the beach or by the pool this one is for you. It was mid season when we went and beds were always available but I can imagine during children's holidays space around the pool would be scarce.
We wont be going back, but only because we never visit the same place twice, such a big world and so many places to see.
Thank you to all the staff at Hotel El Greco, you made our stay very welcoming.

As we arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning we asked if there was anywhere we could get a drink but we were rudely informed that the hotel did not stay up late for us and we had to wait until morning, We were then given the key cards and pointed towards a lift and told to go to the second floor. We had asked for a double room, and although it was a nice clean room, we had single beds. My mum had a room that was little more than a box but she was given the double bed! Both balconies were in the afternoon sun but my mum had to keep reporting to the hotel staff that the floor tiles were breaking but they did not look into this and my mum had to stop siting on the balcony. The food was nice - they only seemed to alternate the choice every other day though. Plenty of chips, pizza's, salads and burgers with a meat and fish dish each day. Breakfast was the best meal of the day as there was a lot of choice from cereals to full english, to pastries and yoghurt. Only issue was that the restaurant staff were not that friendly and hardly smiled. We did not go onto the waterpark or use the pool but they always seemed busy. The beach was lovely and the sea was crystal clear and the fish would eat from your hands. It is also ideal for small children as there were no waves and so they could play without being washed away! The real issue was the steps - everywhere in Portinax is up or down a hill and the hotel was no exception to this - there were 53 steps down to the beach and they were not even, so we saw many struggle with pushchairs and young children. Even the path around the hotel had steps - unless you are happy to carry prams/pushchairs then i would not recommend this hotel. Two days before we were due to fly home, my mum broke her toe and saw a fantastic English speaking doctor who is based minutes from the hotel and we would recommend that if you do need to see a doctor, that you go and see him. When we asked the hotel for their help in organising assistance for my mum at the airport or to send faxes, they were more interested in telling us how much it would cost and then fobbing us off - the hotel staff were in no way helpful. Portinax is a lovely place to visit but we would not go again as there is not much to do once you have walked the square and unless you like to laze on the beach all day and sit in a bar all night then we would suggest you look else where. It is approx 50 Euros to get into Ibiza town by taxi. If you want some nightlife then i would stay closer to the town - there is a bus that goes into Ibiza every couple of hours but the last bus back is 7pm. All in all we did have a good holiday we would suggest that you book a trip to see the sunset - it is amazing! In terms of money - there is not much between the pound and the Euro and the restaurants are just as dear as they are over here. If you like to buy duty free then buy it before you fly or in the shops - do not wait until you are at Ibiza airport as this is more expensive! We also got an awful rate when using the debit card - about 88 cents to the pound. No free Wi-Fi and the hotel charge 1 euro for 10 minutes on the internet - in the square you can get 30 minutes for 1 Euro.

Myself and my family travelled to ibiza to stay at the el greco in portinatx our day didnt start well with the 50 min transfer turning into a 3 hour nightmare wth a 10 month old baby on the coach.
Anyway the hotel was very clean, the rooms were very clean and set out for purpose (we had a family room) although 1 light and no extraction in the bathroom wasnt much cop.
We found the food to be of a decent standard and variety. The entertainment with DJ Barry was pretty good but not as good as my karaoke on the sunday night lol.
The pool was rather small but the biggest gripe we had with the pool is the fact there are NO baby changing facilities near it!!!
And the biggest problem in the complex is that with a child that cannot walk yet it is a complete NIGHTMARE the ammount of steps to get to the restaraunt to get to the pool to get to the beach is horrid when you have to carry your child in the pushchair up and down them!!! As bradley said below we did see david villa of barcelona on the beach then i got a picture in the restaraunt (unlucky brad i did tell you to go into the resteraunt lol) But overall it was a good holiday and when our son grows up and can walk we shall probably return.

Loved this hotel last year but was disappointed with the quality and variety of food this year
Other than that the hotel is quite good , although we paid extra for a sea view room as couldnt face a week looking at a brick wall. Its pretty geared up for families and kids and its location and facilities make it perfect for this. If you are a couple wanting a relaxing break - when you are out and about its fine but the noise level in the restaurant was horrendous - noisy kids and clattery plates gave us a headache so we chose to eat out. It was obvious they had cut back on the food this year and we were disappointed with that but overall - for families, its probably pretty good. Dont think we'll go back though but Portinaxt is beautiful so I'll miss it!

Room Tip: worth paying for sea view

Lots have been recently said about the 'chav parents and kids', 'canteen style food', and 'lots of steps'. Well I'll try to adress those points. Yes, most of the clientele are parents with kids, I was there at half term when it rained and the kids were shall we say restless. But it states in the brochure it's a 'family' hotel, and I'm sure when you were all kids you wern't exactly little angels. They are only enjoying themselves. The food is not canteen style. It's varied, healthy, fresh, lots of it and highly tasty. Okay, maybe it's not top class returant food, but they have over seven hundred mouths to feed three times a day, what do you expect. The steps, again they are mentioned in the brochure. Maybe not ideal for elderly or people with disabilities or buggys. But think of it as free excercise. The hotel's position is on a hill looking over Portinax bay/beach, so obviously there has to be steps. I went as a solo traveller, really enjoyed myself. Met some lovely people. Hotel staff work really hard. Room cleaned and towels/bed linen changed every day. Free wifi in the reception area, just ask reception for the password. Pool area nice. Barry and his entourage are there to provide the entertainment for the kids and adults, although I never did get a certificate or a kiss from Carmen. I'd go again, and I'd enjoy it.

Room Tip: 3rd floor, crap view, gets late pm sun, lovely

Arrived at the hotel, were shown to room, which was facing a wall (not good). Also it was just above the bar area, noisy too. They had no other rooms available but said we could probably move rooms the next day, which we did. Reception very pleasant about it no complaints there.

We went at half term, and if you want to lose your hearing this is the time to go. The beach was packed to full capacity, no fun there. Having said that the grandkids absolutely loved it. To them everything was good, the waterslides and the beach. They met friends and had a whale of a time. They also enjoyed the evening entertainment.

The rooms were clean but not very roomy for 4 persons. We had a very lovely lady who cleaned our room called Loli. Everyone was very pleasant and very helpful.

If you have any mobility problems at all don't choose this hotel. There are lots of steps up to the hotel from the beach, making it very difficult, even for families with push chairs, which had to be carried up all the steps. We also thought the swimming pool was very small.
The food was pretty boring, much the same every day.

Bear in mind this was in the school holidays, we noticed a big difference the last two days when most of the children had gone home.
