Just arrived back from a nine night stay at the El Greco. We had been to the beach at Portinatx before on a day trip, on a previous visit to Ibiza, and we came across the location of the El Greco. We guessed it would suit us as a family with a 2 year old and a 5 year old being able to access the beautiful beach so easily and this was the case until our 5 year old boy, Archie, discovered the Kids Club and he loved it so much we gave into him not wanting to miss. Faye, Caspar and Maria are the "Animacion" entertainment team at the hotel and they are a talented trio who have helped to give our kids an experience and memories I am sure they will treasure for a long time, a big thank you from us to the team. They are not child minders, as some people seem to expect, and you have to stay close to the room, however kids club is on for 2 hours from 11am then another session after lunch starting at 3pm. At these times there are also activities for adults and teenagers, sometimes the adult/teenage sessions have to be amalgamated if one of the staff have a morning or afternoon off. After Dinner the mini disco takes place at 8:30pm and everyone enjoy's the singing and dancing while the team do all the actions on stage. The evening entertainment we stayed up for was good, although our kids were often flagging at this stage.
The pool and stage area was small and basic for a big hotel but everyone just made the best of it.
The hotel was full and noisy due to being a family based hotel and meal times were always busy and sometimes even hectic, however the organisation of the available space and facilities was expertly managed and the food and drink was very good. No matter what time of day you never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be seated in the restaurant or served, when you went to the bar. The staff were all fantastic with a special mention to Raquel and Alberto in the restaurant as well as Juliani, Mario and Joachim in the bar areas.
A few minor moans about the WIFI being really slow and restricted to the reception area although it was free, unlike the safety deposit key which couldn't have incurred the hotel any additional overheads. Also the Parasols in the pool area were quite light and became difficult to use if there was any breeze about.
Overall our kids couldn't find fault with the hotel and when they have a great time this is what makes you happy. Portinatx is a beautiful spot on a lovely island.
