“Good, but not 4 Star as advertised with Thomson”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Having stayed in the resort last year at the Thomson hotel opposite we liked the look of El Greco so booked up. The location is great, direct beach access. Love the town and the peace and quiet. From the outset I have to say Thomson don't do this hotel (or any they use their own grading system for) any favours marketing as a 4 star. It's nice but it's just not got the little extras you get with a 4 star so our expectations weren't met from the start. I don't understand why hotels allow them to market like this as had we wanted a 3 star we would have booked one and from a customer service aspect it must encourage complaints.

Food was nice, really good choice and some nice salads and fresh fruit. Only downside was breakfast where there were very few healthy options, but still good. The restaurant was always packed. It is simply too small and being wedged in did spoil it a bit, felt we had to eat and run as people were all waiting for tables. Major plus side was the view from any window seat, gorgeous. The hotel staff in all areas were very friendly. The public areas of the hotel were clean and tidy.

Major downside was the pool area. We have never been somewhere with such an unwelcoming pool area. It was just green concrete and sun loungers wedged in. Such a shame as this could be rectified so easily with a few plants and decking or even artificial grass. First hotel we have been to without tables round the pool too. We went to the beach, which is just gorgeous and paid for beds there. Must point out that the waterpark is actually separate to the pool and hotel, you physically have to walk across a small section of beach between the two. Wasn't a problem for us but had we traveled with kids this would have been a real issue as you really need to decide which area you'd be at and stay put for the day. Again, so easily solved if lockers were provided at the waterpark area so you could lock bags away and move between pool, park and beach. Waterpark area was again bare but slides were great fun, good for juniors and teens - and grown ups! Does shut on Saturdays. Really horrible feature is the closing of the whole pool area to make way for evening entertainment. Have to leave by 1900 when police style tape is used to close certain areas off - looked like a crime scene! Not sure why a sign isn't used?!

Had a double room, easily the smallest we have ever had. But to be fair also the cleanest. Spotless, cleaned everyday. Very little noise at night. Good size balcony, but unlit. Major issues were no kettle or fridge and aircon unit was literally over the bed and whilst quiet just terribly positioned as blasted with air five feet away. Also very pricey safe hire. No complementary toiletries at all, not even a shower cap. The rooms whilst clean and nicely decorated were never a 4 Star and seriously struggling as a 3. Tip, take a kettle and extra hangers, we had 10 between us.

Entertainment wasn't our cup of tea, but very hard to please everyone. We went to a local Mexican bar and beach bar most nights on the smaller lighthouse beach, both cheap and nice atmosphere. Several other reviews have said about the huge amount of wasted space in the bar area inside. I agree. This could easily be better used by removing or moving the largely unused arcade games and we would probably have stayed there in the evenings had there been a few candles on the tables, background music for people not wanting the entertainment on the outside stage.

We did have a good week but probably wouldn't return, which is a real shame as with a very small amount of money spending on it for those nice little touches, kettles, plants, candles and such like we definitely would. Thomson grading is totally inconsistent as the 3 star plus hotel 100 yards away we stayed at last year had all the features we expected from the 4 star one this year, albeit terrible food! Can't win but definitely check what their grading actually means as we've stayed in 4 hotels and this is always an issue. Hopefully either this hotel will become a proper 4 star, offer a premier inclusive package or suites or a hotel will become available in Portinatx that is 4 star as we love the town and would happily have paid more for those little extras.

Room Tip: Lower floor if you have kids as only 2 lifts - we had 512 which was a 12 flight of stairs walk to th...

Myself and the family went to El Greco for 7 nights at the end of July and we had a great week there. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and waiters also. The choice of food was good and you never went hungry.
The beach is just a few steps away and you're right on one of the best beaches I've seen in a long time, and just a few steps further you'll find the hotels own water park. It's not huge but great fun all the same and at no extra cost you really can't complain.

The kids loved the hotel and really enjoyed the mini disco in the evenings. They had a good range of entertainment in the evenings for the grown ups too, including a magician, a live singer and a Brazilian themed night. Although I wouldn't recommend the horror show, because this was awful. But apart from one poor performance the rest of the holiday was superb.

We have been to this hotel from 27th of May to 3rd of June 2014.It was my husband,I and two children. At first i did not want to write review but now i feel that this hotel deserves few good words.
It is FAMILY hotel-so do not go there if you are bothered by lots of children running around.
Rooms are very clean and really nice for three star hotel.Food is also VERY good, with fresh juices, soya milk, live cooking included (not seen often in three star hotels).
We love beach-so we never use swimming pools-but that is one area that could be bit better in our opinion.Hotel is directly on the sandy beach with lovely shallow waters (ideal for children).
The resort is small-so its perfect for lazy holiday.Staff very friendly.Enjoy it.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms reccomended

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Trip advisor community; it has been a pleasure to read your review and we are sure this will help many travellers to confirm that Marconfort El Greco Hotel is the perfect place for their vacation in Ibiza.
Yes we do are a family friendly resort and have a lot of children and we do know that the pool area is small for the Hotel, but we try to compensate that with the situation near the beach and the water park.

Positive aspects: good location right on the beach; excellent water slides; comfortable rooms; calm. Aspects to improve: the rooms with views have the inconvenience of the noise from the air conditionning systems of the hotel (specially during the time when the dining room is open); food is cheap and repetitive; despite being a beach hotel, the hotel doesn't provide pool towels. To sum up: I would not recommend this hotel unless you are travelling with children (for the water slides).

Room Tip: The ones with the most frontal view to the sea, the highest floor as possible.

we are not long back from a week at the Hotel El Greco - it was a brilliant break. The hotel is clean and tidy, the staff are friendly and helpful. There was a good selection on the buffet breakfast lunch and dinner and my daughter loved the all but on tap ice cream. The water park is lovely, although the main slide is a bit tired, and the beach is beautiful. Overall it is a fantastic value for money hotel and perfect for a family holiday. would go back tomorrow

Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

Our travellers consisted of me 37, mum 67, and two children 8 & 6 from 9th-16th July 2014.

Pool cramped and needs more drainage. Water lay everywhere and was dirty. The pool needs to restrict the use of inflatables and ball games. It's just too small and it makes it unpleasant for everyone. Lots of umbrellas for shade. Lifeguard non existent on Saturday.
Water park pool too deep for younger children. The small pool with slide is good however the slide doesn't really slide! Spanish health and safety leaves a lot to be desired. Sides of large slide were not enclosed apart from one rail. An accident waiting to happen.
There is a terraced area above the pool which adults with no children used. Lucky them!

Restaurant cramped. I find it amazing that this hotel has fantastic indoor space which is so badly used. The restaurant could easily be extended. The tables are on top of each other! Food was excellent. Roasts, freshly cooked burgers, Chinese themed night, Mexican themed night, freshly baked bread and personalised pizzas. Etc! Self service beer, white, red and rose wine and a variety of soft drinks and sparkling water. Tea and coffee machines.

Children everywhere! Many parents obviously lose their sense of responsibility when abroad. Young children allowed to walk around unsupervised. This has obviously nothing to do with the hotel.

Inside bar area very loud and children again everywhere!

I found all staff to be fantastic.

I would not agree that this hotel is spotless. Yes, it's clean but my son dropped a full cup of chocolate milk shake outside which I cleaned up to the best of my ability, the bar staff helped, however 4 days later it was still all splashed up a wall.

Beach beautiful. Clean, clear sea.

STEPS!!! Everywhere. Do not go here with a pram or wheelchair. Be warmed.

Safe was €27 with a €5 refundable deposit.

Wifi in reception was free but slow. Better to join O2 travel (if on O2) which charges £1.99 per day for unlimited use.

Animation team were fantastic. My children went to the kids club on different occasions 10-12 and 3-5. Lovely cool air conditioned room with themed days. Bouncy castle outside. I however didn't let mine go to the water park with the kids club. One father said his child could swim when asked on the form. He later had to be saved from drowning. Not the hotels fault but a very silly father.

Rooms are very small. No fridge. No kettle. ITV on the tv. Good view room 19. No separate shower. No extractor fan in bathroom.

Use of two courtesy rooms in the gym on day of departure which had showers and changing areas. No need to pay to keep your room as these are available.

Approach to hotel is pretty depressing. Portinax is beautiful but quiet.

My children enjoyed the kids disco. We didn't stay for any further entertainment.

Water dispenser in reception to get drinks to take to bed.

This hotel is a solid 3 star. However we paid £750 each for this holiday with one free child place. So it was far from cheap. Fridges and kettles in rooms, an extended restaurant, the removal of arcade games and a movie room with popcorn and drinks provided for teenagers and this hotel would be much improved.

Portinax is 45 minutes from the airport however it is a pleasant journey. No seatbelts on coach.

Pool bar and water park open at 11am. Icecreams and Lollies available from all bars. Just ask. Self service cocktails and kids non-alcoholic cocktails available.

This review is probably quite a mess but I typed as things popped into my head!
