Es Grop Apartments
Reviewed 13 October 2008

We just got home yesterday. I want to go back, RIGHT NOW!!!
My husband and I had a great holiday. As its the end of season, it was so quiet, just what we needed. Many of the shops and pubs were closed or closing, so we had a limited choice, but we were more than happy to eat at the restaurant at Es Grop. It was excellent. Huge portions (thank goodness we had to climb all these steps!!!!!) and just great value .
We had a lovely apartment. Massive balcony and although the apartments are basic and as said in other reviews, a little dated and could do with a good makeover, they are very clean.
We had issues with the shower, it was a bit temperamental, and I flooded the place on more than one occasion, ooooops!!!!
Other than that, no complaints whatsoever as regards the apartment. View from the balcony was just AMAZING, we loved it.
We had great rapport with ALL the staff members, from reception, to cleaning staff, to the girls in the zulu lounge, everyone was so nice to us, very chatty and just lovely.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this to my friends or family. I just hope they dont all book it when I want to go, incase ttheres no room for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Es Grop apartments are great - not too expensive - clean and tidy - lots of space, with proper bathroom, bedroom and kitchen off a wide lobby area and a big balcony with a great view over the whole bay. The apartments are walking distance from everything you need.
Es grop receptionists and cleaners are friendly and helpful and not 'in your face' - they leave you alone to get on with your holiday, but are there for you if you need to ask about anything.
Unfortumately, too much of the surrounding resort area is run by and/or for Brits. Two massive hotel complexes and several smaller bars blast out boring 70's Brit pop all day and night - it's so loud that even on the beach there is no escape from the 'music' and microphoned 'entertainment'. Who told them that that's what we want? It's insulting.
Portinatx is known for its natural beauty, which is still there to be experienced, but we went to smaller beaches around the coast - an hour's walk away - to escape the noise and revel in the peaceful surroundings and calm sea - you can swim far out and feel safe, as it is shallow and clean with hardly any waves, and lots of fish to swim with.
The related pub/Chinese restuarant ?! downstairs, we gave a wide berth - we wanted to give it a go, but it is run by Brits, so of course nobody came to serve us - they just carried on with their conversations and never acknowledged our existence. We walked out and never went back. The same thing happened at the Zulu bar downstairs - they ignored us and served their mates.
The nearest supermarket is also run by Brits - there are notices about stealing all over the place - so we went to the Spanish-run one just a bit further away - much better.
The few Spanish/Ibizan bars and restaurants are a different story - good food and drink, good service, and no ridiculous holiday camp 'entertainment'.
I would recommend going to Portinatx - it's a great place - , but seek out the proper Mediterranean stuff - it's much better - everyone speaks English if you need it, and is more than happy to help.
You can get a bus to Santa Eulalia, an hour away, where there is another beach, even better restaurants, and fantastic shopping - look for the great shoe shops - and everyone speaks english if you need it.

My Fiance and I visited Portinatx on a last minute holiday booked with Thomas Cook online.

The apartments were basic, but clean and pleasant enough to live in! The pool was a nice quiet are so we could soak up the sun in peace whilst reading many of the books we took with us!

It is about 100m away from the beach, down a very steep amount of steps - definately not for the faint hearted! I consider myself to be moderately fit, but by the time I got to the top of those steps I definately needed to take a break! The plus side being that the view from the top of the steps was gorgeous!

The restaurants associated with Es Grop are the Chinese (halfway down the steps) and the Zulu lounge at the bottom. The Chinese is by far the best restaurant we went to and has breath taking veiws, and always had a cocktail there at night on the way back to the apartment - excellent way to regain your breath after the monsterous steps! The Zulu loung also provides good food, salads were huge!! The sports bar next door to the Zulu do a mean kebab which I must admit I had several times!!

The restaurant Jardin del mar was recommended as the best seafood restaurant - do not beleive this! We both eat out regularly at very nice restaurants so when told seafood is good we expect it to be - it tasted purely of salt and we were thoroughly disappointed!

Portinatx is a quiet location in able distance of the busier resorts so that if you feel the need for clubbing you can go ahead a nd do so - it will cost you though!

Staff at the apartments were very friendly, and the thomas cook rep was great, didnt hound us too much but was easy to approach. All in all this was the perfect break away for us and would thoroughly reccomend to anyone in the same situation.

great value for money.. very clean and quite spacious appartments, if a little dated.. the views are spectacular from the older appartments .. new appartments rented by the hotel/ older ones through thomas cook... plenty to do for families, ideal for a nice quiet break... all appartments self catering but enough local restaurants/cafes to keep you going at least for a week - 10 days. would particularly recomend the thai/chinese attatched to the appartments and you must try Don quixotes, a spanish restaurant on the other side of the bay heading out of town.. 15 euro menu includes olives/bread/garlic dip.. starter..main course and a bottle of wine 30 euros per couple

We booked a last minute holiday and got named accomodation at the Es Grop (my boyfriend and I). I was a little apprehensive about the resort of Portinatx- it seems really far away from anything else but I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Portinatx is very quiet, a few restaurants to choose from and only a handful of bars- the Zulu lounge was nice at the bottom of our apartments and the Thai food at Grop's Pub was our favourite. There are quite a few steps up to the apartments but it is not excessive and is of course worth it for the view. We got lucky and ended up in a lovely apartment, huge balcony overlooking the gorgeous bay. There was absolutely no problems with the apartments, very clean, everything worked and ours was really nice (maybe one of the better ones- the ones facing the pool didn't look quite as nice). Portinatx is only about 30-40 euros in a taxi to Ibiza Town and there is a bus (although the times are a bit random). You can get anywhere in Ibiza in less than an hour so although it is a bit remote, it is a gorgeous base to relax in. Have fun!

I have stayed at the Es Grop apartments, for two weeks, every June/July for the last five years and have always come home feeling as though I have been away for months.
The rooms are basic but, always clean. Although they don't have proper air conditioning units you can hire a fan from the reception and if you place it at the end of the beds it will keep you cool all night.
The staff in reception speak English and are very friendly and professional as are the cleaning staff, even if their English is not that good. Time for Spanish lessons.
The pool is always clean and although it's small it's never crowded.
The apartments are located next to the Presidente Hotel which has a terrace that is used for entertainment at certain times of the day. The reps use a PA system that can be a bit loud sometimes but, by going out before 10am and then again before 8pm you can avoid this.
There are quite a few steps from the beach up to the apartments which can be a struggle for the elderly, the unfit or the well oiled. There is a bar half way up if you want to rest and get your breath back.
If you want to see the best sunset in Ibiza ask the reception staff how to get to the pirate tower up on the hill to the west of Portinatx bay. Get there early and allow 15 minutes if walking. Take your camera, mosquito spray and a bottle of water. You won't be disappointed.

My husband, myself and our two 9 year old Daughters had a good flight into Ibiza from Humberside and arrived at the Es Grop Apartments at about 9.30pm. We were checked in quickly and efficiently and escorted to our apartment which was in the newer of the two buildings. The apartments was spotless and a reasonable size. The balcony was approximately 30 feet long and 15 feet wide, amazing. The views were breathtaking.

There were a lot of steps leading down to the beach but we were aware of this through the brochure notes. We got used to them by day 7, what a killer.

I wouldn't want to stay at the Es Grop in the height of the season. Unfortunately, although lovely, the pool and the surrounding terrace were not particularly big. The "second" pool based down by the Chinese Restaurant was no more than a very large hot tub.

The Chinese Restaurant is a must. The food is fantastic. All the bar staff and restaurant staff were very friendly and polite. They couldn't do enough for you.

All in all we had a good 7 day break. It was long enough for us as Portinatx wouldn't be big enough for us for any longer.

I would recommend these apartments if you are fit and like a bit of a walk.
