“Beautiful location, great quality & service”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

This is a beautifully-preserved home, complete with photos, furniture & comfortable seating areas, a handsome drawing room, huge dining room & very comfortable bedrooms, most rooms facing the lake to the back. Even front-facing rooms are peaceful and insulated from noise & the weather. Food is fresh, tasty, healthy & service is good.

This hotel does not try to be cosmopolitan - it is a real taste of Sweden (only issue for most travellers would be the Swedish rules on alcohol & its cost, but that's not to do with the hotel itself).

The hotel is 10 mins' walk to the town, which is friendly and well-appointed.

This is an ideal location for complete rest, healthy atmosphere, good food & a break from the rat-race.

Clean, comfortable, helpful staff & good service.

Room Tip: Facing the lake have a beautiful view

I can't imagine visiting Lake Siljan and not staying at this hotel. The romantic atmosphere reminiscent of yesteryear and the beautiful decor are stunning. We stayed in a room with lake and garden view, really nice and quiet. The quantity of charming vintage objects, tapestries, drawings and fresh cut wild flowers decorating the lounge and the hallways of the hotel was however the key element that made me fall in love with this place. I felt very welcomed and cozy. It was more like visiting old friends. We were served complimentary tea and homemade cookies before going to bed and the breakfast was delicious and organic/homemade and was served in a bright and huge room. There's a piano and a guitar in the lobby guests can play. Highly recommended!

The Korstappans is a beautiful hotel, with a very romantic look. The rooms offer all comfort and you can sit on a balcony with a view on the lake.
Breakfast is top and the restaurant gives excellent diner. I don't think there are many restaurants in the city
There is sufficient free parking and wifi works good.
There is no elevator, but this was for us not a problem although it could be for less mobile customers.

A hotel to recommend highly

This is an exceptionally lovely hotel in a beautiful part of rural Sweden. From the minute we walked in the front door we were welcomed with rare warmth and hospitality. Our room, #31, was delightful and had a gorgeous view of the lake. The building has been a hotel for 150 years, it has great character. Every room in the main part of the hotel is inviting and filled with interesting furniture, photos and knickknacks. The buffet breakfast is outstanding. There are not many nice restaurants in Leksand, the custom seems to be to eat dinner at your hotel. We ate dinner in the dining room one night and the food was delicious and beautifully served. The staff were unfailingly attentive and helpful.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that faces the lake

Nice and exceptional place with excellent food. However, it does by far not meet 4 star level (service, maintenance, amenities) and is therefore in our opinion quite over-priced.

We had a room with a fab lake view on the second floor in the main buildning. Other than that there's not much on the positive side about the room and its definately not worth the €130 we paid for the night (breakfast included). Of couse the room was nicely decorated, but everything was kind of worn out and the bathroom (very small) definately saw its best days (half of the bathroom floor was covered with a brown plastic carpet and the other half had a pink carpet..). The overall impression of this hotel is that the owners really need to put an effort into updating the place if they want to keep up with the reputation and the history of the building. We were also surprised that the hotel seems to be a four star accomodation, I would say 3 at a maximum. For example the front desk was unmanned during night hours, and the bereakfast buffet really wasn't what we've experienced from other four star hotels (both in Sweden and abroad). The one exception from the out of date status we saw was the dining / breakfast hall - it is beutiful and enjoys a stunning lake view. When we checked out we shared our impressions at the front desk and were told that the hotel is being renovated, didn't see anything of that, but try asking for a newly renovated room, it might do it.

Dear Mrs & Mr,
Thank you for staying in our hotel and for taking the time to write this report. The room you stayed in, as you write, is not renovated yet. The dining rooms was renovated last year and I am happy that you liked the style, from that you can have an idea of the style we use in the rooms. We renovate one room at the time since we only have 27 rooms we can't close more than one at the same time and we have always one room going on (exept for the summertime).

Since I and my family lives on the hotel area we don't have some one at the front desk at night, but we are always nearby incase of an accident etc. The duty manager telephonenumber is to be found in the hotelbook in the room, at the front desk and at the front door.

The breakfast buffet is served with homemade marmelades, jams, cereals, bread, bisquits. Other product are organic, fairtrade etc. We are now in to the process of transmitting our restaurant into 100% organic-, nordic- and seasonalproducts. This means that we won't have tomatoes etc in the winter time but all that we serve will be healthy for the nature and our guests.

You are most welcome to contact me so that we can arrange for another visit for you in our hotel.

Yours sincerely,

Sophie Resare

Into this hotel, you feel yourself transportated into the atmosphere of "Fanny & Alexander". The building is fantastic, specially the living-reataurant area and the garden. At the corridors you can see photos of the family and the building in the old times, which contributes to ambient the scene even more.

The rooms are cozy and warm. The bathrooms are small and unconfortable, typical in Sweden, but definitively not at the international level and smaller than other cheaper hotels we visit in Sweden. For example, the shower was only a drainage on the floor, and you should be very careful for not weating all the (reduced) space in the bathroom. There was impossible to instal a standard shower in such a reduced space.

There are other cheaper accomodation options in other buildings nearby, but the wifi is available just in the main building.

Another inconvenience is that there are not elevators, so rooms at First and Second floor are not accesible.

The price is high but justified by the location, the building atmosphere and the rooms, if can forget the bathrooms.

The breakfast is really fantastic, good value.
