Only stayed here one night but room was comfortable with lots of antiques, the bathroom however was ultra modern with heated towel rail, super shower. Access to rooms was via an outside staircase but. This was not a problem, it could be if people were not aware.
As other people have stated Lyon la foret is very quiet but that only added to its charm.

We ate here and had a very pleasant evening on the patio. It's a beautiful setting in a fabulous town. The food is good but not amazing, but was well price €18 for 3 course meal. With a good choice of wine.

We spent three nights at Le Lion de Beauclerk and found it charming, very French, rather idiosyncratic. The room--clean, medium sized and well ventilated--was decorated with nice old antiques and an amusing toile de jouy of golfers. The bed was comfortable, and I loved the large bathroom with a functioning towel heater and marble floors. The primary business of Le Lion de Beauclerk is its restaurant (downstairs and worth visiting) so the six rooms they rent have the feel of chambres d'hôtes, as if you are staying with family who are busy elsewhere. The rooms have a separate entrance, and you will need to find parking on the street (which was easy for us in June.) Breakfast was served at big sister hotel, La Licorne, just down the road, and the concierge there handled our check-out. Lyons-la-Fôret is a tiny place, one of the 152 plus beaux villages of France; the pace was relaxed, personal, attentive and polite. Everyone was very agreeable; the young man in the office of tourism (just down the street from Le Lyon de Beauclerk) was particularly helpful.

This was one of the most charming small hotels we've stayed in France, set in a lovely village. Although the Hotel was closed when we arrived, because of adequate signage, it was no trouble to find the sister Hotel. The manager was most helpful, spoke perfect English although we did attempt to speak French. The manager then showed us to the Hotel, Les Lions de Beauclerc, access required, key codes and showed us our rooms. He asked us to inspect the rooms before showing us the breakfast area. As we walked to the Hotel, the manager pointed out various places of interest in the village including the tourist information office.
The rooms were lovely, typically French and very clean.
Breakfast was as expected, staff were very polite and friendly and nothing to much trouble. Although they couldn't speak English, this was not a problem, and with limited French we got by.
We had one evening meal in the hotel which was ok for the money, the other two nights we had our meals out at a local bar, which again for the money was good value.
Because of what was said on a previous review we were a bit worried about what to expect but we were pleasantly suprised and pleased and definately recommend the hotel especially if you want to enjoy typically French surroundings.

I spent 3 nights in the Le Lion de Beauclerc hotel in Lyons-la-Forêt. It was one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a long time. The village is very picturesque and there are only 3 hotels. It was August and high-season.
The lady at reception was very friendly, and though it was early, the room was ready.
It's a small hotel with only 6 rooms There isn't air conditioning, but as the building is old, and the bedrooms are on the north of it, there isn't any need.
The room was beautifully furnished and decorated. The bathroom was modern and large.
Breakfast was only fair at €13.
I can see how other contributors might have had problems checking in when there is nobody at the hotel, but the instructions on the gate refer you to the other hotel a couple of minutes walk up the street.
Apparently the three hotels in Lyons-la-Forêt are now owned by the same man, surely not a good thing for the village.
We only ate dinner on one night, and it was fine, and really good value, especially compared to the other 2 hotels. The service was slow, as there was only one waiter, and the restaurant was quite full.
All in all, it was a wonderfully relaxing stay, in beautiful surroundings.

A wonderful stay in this beautiful village. I came up from Paris for a Tango Festival which was held on a farm just 7 kilometers from Lyons la Foret but as I am not one for camping out opted to stay with my sister at Les Lions de Beauclerc. We loved the hotel. The manager greeted us and gave us directions for getting in late at night. The room was very old fashioned and charming. Immaculately clean and with a new, modern and fully equipped bathroom. Breakfast in the garden was wonderful and a walk through the town like going into medieval times. A flower festival was on and it was possible to visit private gardens.

Before making my booking for our three night stay at Les Lions de Beauclerc I had studied all the reviews by previous visitors to this hotel and all the others in the area and felt confident to go ahead and confirm my booking. I have stayed in Lyons La Foret before and believe it to be a delightful village surrounded by lovely countryside and an ideal location for travelling to Giverny and Rouen which are two of our favourite locations in Normandy.

On arrival at the hotel at 1700 hours there was nobody present to greet us and we were stood at a locked gate with a notice telling us if nobody was present we should go to a nearby hotel or telephone a given number. Having gone to the adjacent hotel as instructed we were given our room number and a code to the gate numberpad and made our way to our room and settled in. There were no notices or advice regarding the operation of the rooms facilities or breakfast and dining arrangements available in the hotel.

Some time later I found somebody in the restaurant and booked a table for two for that evening. I have been visiting France for 40 years and have eaten some medoicre and excellent meals but this must rate as my most disappointing eating experience to date. The service was very slow, the atmosphere unwelcoming and the food especially our main courses were of a very poor standard.

The room was fairly large and very clean but one of the plugs came out of the wall as soon as we plugged in our laptop and the television would only work on TF1 if it worked at all. Having left a note to this effect a new TV was fitted in time for our third night. Coming in at night in the dark, both lights on the external staircase were inoperative. On our second night an elderly couple were wandering aimlessly around the terrace unable to find any staff member to tell them how to operate the gate to leave the hotel. Fortunately I was able to help them or as they explained they were about to return to their room and would have had to have missed their evening meal.

The breakfast was very poor value at 11 euros each and on arrival in the breakfast room you had to ring a bell to summon somebody to serve you. On Wednesday and Thursday nights the hotel restaurant is closed with the only alternative being Le Grand Cerf where the menu did not appeal and appeared very expensive. Having said that we drove 20kms to Les Anderlys and enjoyed an excellent meal.

We did not enjoy our stay at this hotel and we were hugely disappointed by the experience.
