We are here at the moment and have really enjoyed our stay. The food is very good and the hand cut chips are to die for. The staff and locals are very friendly. We were on a two night b&b deal with a main meal on both nights and it was excellent value. Durham is approx 15 mins away and Newcastle about 40 mins away both worth a visit. If we come back to this area we would stay here again.

I recently purchased a deal from Groupon for a 2 night stay here with breakfast both mornings & dinner on 1 night for me & my boyfriend. We were put in a family room with a double bed & 2 single beds.
I have to say the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly, however the room we were not overly impressed with. It was freezing cold (I spent the 1st couple of hours in my coat and put the duvet off the 2nd & 3rd beds on top of the 1 on our own bed), the cups & spoons for making tea were dirty, as well as dirty marks on the bedding and had a lot of cobwebs etc in the corners.... & not to be picky but the soap.....pretty sure it wasn't even soap! Seemed to be watered down so so much didn't even wash your hands! 2 toilet rolls when we 1st arrived, 1 half empty, the other almost gone....at least add a new roll for new guests when there is not much left!

Considering it only cost me £89 for the 2 nights & food I didn't make any complaints & I'm not really the type of person to anyway but overall the cleanliness was not good, but again the staff were friendly & great food! If they paid more attention to the rooms I would stay here again. Maybe do with some new windows & doors too to keep the cold out & noise from the road & noisy people coming out of the pub on a night. LOL

As a basic hotel this was quite good and good value for money. The room had a very slight musty smell, maybe because it was early in the season after the winter dampness. There was also a severe mildew problem on the ceiling above the shower (and in other places in the bathroom. This did let down the overall feel for the place. The venue is very quiet and I would recommend the bar food (two courses and drinks for three people for £42).

I recently booked 4 rooms for 3 nights for my family who travelled from Scotland and Spain to celebrate a surprise 40th. They had rooms 5 7 8 & 9. Rooms 5 and 9 no sleep had due to the worst mattress ever a complaint was made and we got a duvet! The locks were broken on arrival had to fix these ourselves! The food was disgusting... Steak pie was stew with a bit pastry in top chips burnt scampi was cod balls the staff aren't friendly or happy in this place they got over £700 off my family this weekend and would of received better service in a £29 a night premier inn!!!!! NEVER EVER will they stay here again!!!!!!

well it has been 6 months and a change of management since we were last here but is as we remembered it and the staff remembered us, friendly and helpful as always, our room was warm and comfortable with plenty tea etc, clean and well appointed.
The breakfast was filling and we really enjoyed the evening meal, we are looking forward to a relaxing 3 day break with them and will continue to return to this delightful Inn.

Ease of parking is a real bonus as you can park right outside your room so no struggle with cases.

Stayed over the Easter weekend on a KGB deal - you cannot beat the good value of the bed, breakfast and evening meal deal. However, the place needs a bit of a clean up, especially outside at the back where there was a lot of debris from smokers that had been around for some time and from dead leaves around the doors to some of the rooms. We wouldn't have been happy paying the full price but the KGB deal price was good. The food for the evening meals and the breakfasts was very good.

We have recently stayed for 2 nights on a KGB deal. For the amount we paid we can't complain, the staff were very friendly and the food was good. However, the rooms were ok but the shower was full of grit and mould which we find unacceptable. Outside the rooms and at the entrance to the pub the floor was littered with cigarette ends and dead leaves that looked like they had been there for a long time. In the pub it's self the floors were all sticky and some of the seats were ripped.

This place is in need of some TLC. I am sure it would not cost very much money to tidy the place up, just a good clean up alone would make a big difference
