Friendly owners provided rooms with beautiful scenery, quiet setting. Difficult parking situation was manageable. Morning of departure, the plumbing leaked water all over bathroom. An error in communication left the room unlocked and a $1000.00 dollars stolen in a few minutes! Great place to stay; but never forget to lock up money in a safe!

Dear Guest,
Thanks for the review of your stay in Comfortel De Champ in July 2009.
- The difficult parking situation was due to the construction of the new road to the hotel. Nowadays it's very easy to reach the hotel and to park on the guest parking.
- Following our recent email contacts we would like to apologize once more for the unpleasant experience. For readers of this review: All rooms have personal safes and we have changed some procedures in effort to improve guest safety and comfort.
Kind regards
Lise & Hans

My wife and I are well-traveled, but never have we experienced the level of service and care given to us by our gracious hosts, Hans and Lise. Your every need is catered to and they are so helpful. Hans even made a mini travel guide that he prints out for guests with driving directions to many of the local attractions. The guide has pictures of landmarks and signs to accompany the directions so you won't get lost driving. They also provide you with a cell phone and just make you feel extremely welcome. We stayed in room 3 which is the largest room and has spectacular views of the Caribbean and the Cabrits mountains. The rooms were very comfortable with cold A/C king size bed, hot shower, and flat screen tv with satellite. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the bathrooms and shower are super nice. A full breakfast is included and it is delicious!

This is the first place I have stayed that I feel is truly deserving of five stars. The only negative is that the bar upstairs can be loud on Friday and Saturday nights when the students from Ross are partying. I brought earplugs (as I do on all trips), so this didn't bother me too much. We originally planned to split our time in Dominica between Portsmouth and Roseau, but we liked Comfortel de Champ so much that we stayed there our entire 8 days on Dominica. That should tell you something. Do yourself a favor and stay there...you won't regret it! BTW Dominica is fantastic!!! One of the best trips ever. Thanks Hans and Lise!!

Comfortel was a beautiful, small & homey hotel. Han & Lise are wonderful hosts. The rooms are beautiful and the view is spectacular. It is a short (if a little steep) walk to beaches, shopping and restaurants. There is also a shuttle (provided by Comfortel) in the evenings if you didn't want to walk back up the hill. There is a medical university nearby which means most of the restaurants etc in the area cater to an american style student population. We couldn't find much in the way of "local" foods. One thing to note when booking is to check with Comfortel on the university schedule. The students like to party at the Comfortel bar after exams (held four times a year we think) and there were a couple of nights that the bar was rocking until 2 -3 in the morning.

Comfortel De Champ was amazing. We had a wonderful week. Lise went out of her way to make us happy and helped us organize our tours, dinners, etc. This place had it all. When I think of service beyond the call of duty, I think of Christine, Ike, Jackie and Oliver. They were always smiling, full of information and helping. We will be going back to Dominica often and staying at Comfortel De Champ. The bathrooms are modern and beautiful. We had so much fun at the bar and met great people. The food was good and the views from the room's private balcony was stunning. Thanks for a great vacation! Brenda

My girlfriend and I stayed here and it was just perfect. Lise and Hans (owners) are amazing, and have exceptional hospitality. The views from the rooms are breath-taking. You get a 3 course breakfast every morning thats fresh and prepared-to-order. Knowledgeable staff that knows all the hotspots on the island, plus, they will take you there. (for the guys) Romantic spots are just a walk away from the hotel that are ideal to propose to her...

This isn't Cancun, sandals, or anything resembling the banality of the money grabbing tourist hot-spots in the Caribbean. The island has little of the comforts a City boy from Detroit is used to, but is such a nice breath of fresh air. No one tried to sell me anything like horseback rides, or island lunches, but that was never my style.

In Dominica you are on an adventure, and whether it be driving on the wrong side of the road or climbing a volcanic mountain in the jungle, it is a very special treat. The De Champs facilities was the perfect place to recover from the high impact, 90 degree heat and constant exploring.

Breakfast reservations were required, but the layout was WONDERFUL. Waking up to early was rewarded by making my way to the dining area, and being greeted not by a line, but a set table with fruit already sliced presented nicely in a bowl (under a screen, awaiting my fork.) Coffee and an omelette's seemed to make the whole day better.

Dinner and drinks were had in the open air bar/lounge. I recommend the "bitter balls" appetizer, and a bacon cheese burger (jimmy buffet was right!) Order a few Kabuli (local, island made pale ale) and enjoy a conversation or two with the two dutch hosts that operate the hotel. They are the type of people i'm happy to meet on one of my very few opportunities i get in life to vacation!

Feb 14-20 , 2010 Comfortel de Champ was the place to stay in Portsmouth, Dominica.
Hosts Lise and Hans were 5-stars for their welcoming hospitality and calming ways in a new and initially anxiety-provoking place.
The soothing cocktail (choice of entire drink menu) when we arrived from the MelvilleHall airport on Valentine's Day was just in time to make the stress of a long trip melt away into the beautiful Dominica sunset over the lovely Caribbean Sea...beautiful.
Our accommodations were very nice, comfortable for the three of us, with nice bathroom, flatscreen tv, minibar, internet access, and a front porch with a million dollar view of Picard, Portsmouth, Ross University School of Medicine, banana trees, hummingbirds, bananaquits, the surrounding hills and the Caribbean.
The Montserrat 2/11/10 volcanic ash that covered everything was quickly cleaned - up and Comfortel de Champ stayed very neat and clean throughout.
Morning breakfast on the dining deck was a tasty mix of fresh fruit and egg dishes and was a good convenient way to start our sightseeing days.
We did not utilize the sunset bar as much as we would have hoped for but there was just no more time or energy to do so. However the bartender Ike was great and the drink menu quite extensive with a good wine/champagne selection.
As a Ross University School of Medicine 4th semester student, we had a fantastic tour guide in our daughter. We visited many of the beautiful sites throughout Dominica.
At days end, Comfortel de Champ was there on the hillside as a beacon welcoming us home for rejuvenation before our next wild nature adventure.
