We loved mango drift on likolma island. Ben, the manager, always had ideas for activities: scuba, poker, tubing, poker, etc. The setting is stunning. We spent a week and were completely horizontal by the time we got back on the ilala.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Mango Drift.
The room was beautiful and clean, the food was delicious and the management and staff were so helpful and friendly.
We were welcomed and made to feel safe (which was a great experience after our disturbing experience at Wakwenda Retreat on Chizumulu Island)
Thank you to Ben and all the staff for a wonderful 3 days!

Room Tip: We stayed one of the en-suite rooms which was amazing after backpacking and camping through East Afr...

I stayed in Mango drift for 3 nights between Christmas and New Years, camping for 2 nights and a dorm for one night.
Location could not be better on a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear waters. However it would benefit from better sign posts from the town.
Food is pricey but good so if you are on a budget I would advise taking some food to avoid having to buy every meal.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review Mango Drift, any commentary or criticism, when just, is always appreciated.

We are currently erecting signs along the road to make sure all our guests, even the ones who did not request a transfer, make it to our venue safe and prompt.

The food: yes, it is not the cheapest. but we would rather serve good quality food and charge accordingly than have guest eating ill-satisfactory meals during their stay with us.
The fact that we have to personally bring in most our ingredients by air freight and boat from the mainland might also explain why it is slightly more expensive than on the mainland.
If you are well travelled you may be aware that the more remote a location is, the more pricey commodities become.
And it does not easily get more remote than Likoma island.
Unfortunately there is not much we can do about this.

Glad to hear that besides all that you did enjoy your stay with us.

Kind regards and hope to have you stay with us again sometime.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay, probably one of my favourite ever places in the world. It's like what everyone strives to find in thailand, the perfect beach with your own bungalow right on it with no one else around. lovely staff and food was great. shame they played the same music all day everyday but thats nothing to worry about. Double room was lovely, although got food poisening from their banana smoothie. Staff were great about it all thinking i had malaria which i did too and were very concerned. they gave us dorm prices for the next few days of staying there. Not much to do on the island but great for chilling out for a few days or so! oh and the bathrooms are so nice with great showers etc.

Thank you very much for your comment, at Mango Drift we value our guest satisfaction highly.

It is always nice to hear positive feedback as well as constructive criticism.
I would like to point out two things though.

Our fruit smoothies consist purely of fresh fruit and crushed ice.
As upsetting as it is to be ill on your dream vacation, I doubt that the fruit smoothie was the cause of your not feeling well.

And that you say there is nothing to do on the island comes as quite a shock to me.
We offer by far one of the largest varieties of activities in Malawi.
On the island there is fantastic snorkelling all round, walks through the baobab forests, visits to the impressive cathedral, which is over 100 years old. The local witchdoctor is also well worth the time to go and see.
At mango drift itself we offer a large variety of activities such as kite surfing, scuba diving and courses, snorkel trips around the island, sunset tours with cold drinks in a wooden boat, water skiing, wake boarding, mono skiing, water tubing and if you don't want to stretch the budget we have an arrangement of board games, a free pool table to use, free kayaks on the beach and snorkelling gear to use whenever you like.
All of which you should have been informed of at your arrival.

About the music, I will see to it that this gets changed.

Thanks again for taking the time to review Mango Drift, looking forward to hopefully having you with us again.

Stayed there for six days and would have wanted to stay for longer. Beautiful view, beautiful beach, beautiful bar just a beautiful place. Tasteful style of buildings, clean bathrooms and a very nice dorm. Staff was friendly, manager, Kevin, extremely helpful and good food. Free pool table, paddle boards and local canoes.
All in all a very nice place where we would love to return to. Magnificent value for money.

Had a fantastic 3 night stay at Mango drift, didn't want to leave. It's one of the most beautiful and remote places I have ever visited. The rooms finished to an excellent standard, loved the flower petals on the bed, it was a nice touch, excellent value for money. The food was fantastic and the staff remembered my dietary requirements which was great. Try the pancakes and banana smoothies. There was also free snorkling and kayaking gear to borrow.
the only thing i would recommend is take anti histamines, i took a strange allergic reaction to the mango trees and apparantly its quite common even for non hayfever sufferers.
Also if you are coming via the Ilala then there are NO mattresses available despite what they say. And be prepared to get wet as you have to get off the ferry into a dingy boat which takes you to shore but this stops approx knee deep in water as opposed to the beach.

Great place for people in their 20s - early 30s to hang out and just relax. We had one of those great experiences when you arrive at a place meet everyone staying there and just feel like you have instant friends. The staff was wonderful. I stayed in a room w en suite and honestly couldn't have wanted more.

The only down side is for kayakers - there aren't kayaks available at Mango Drift.

Room Tip: The rooms with en suite have a front veranda with amazing views of the lake.
