I booked a 2 night stay here for my husband's birthday. It was our first time away in several years without our children, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The Hut is beautifully decorated, with every thing you could wish for, and more. It's extremely cosy, but luxurious at the same time. We loved the record player which was perfectly in keeping with the retro feel. The views over the countryside were fabulous and drinking coffee outside and looking out over the fields was so relaxing. We also used the wood-fired hot tub which was amazing - well worth the time it takes to warm up. The owners were extremely welcoming and though we didn't need anything whilst there, were only too happy to help. We ate in the Candlelight Inn, a very short distance away both evenings and the food, service and atmosphere were all superb. We had booked a different location for our second night, but liked the Candlelight we came back. Loved it so much I'm hoping to go back for my birthday in October. And many more times!
I stayed here recently with my daughter as a short break while the rest of the family were away. Dimpsey's really is a great little hideaway and is beautifully done. Everything, that has been fitted or supplied is to a very high standard which is very rare these days; i can't think of a single corner cut. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights - the outside kitchen and hot tub are wonderful additions, Location is very private on a relatively remote farm. Plenty to do locally. We went to the Devon coast and Exeter which are less than 40 minutes drive and also took in cycling on the Grand Western Canal path at Tiverton - a glorious 12 mile ride on rented bikes.
If you fancy glamping somewhere where they have got it right then this is for you.
Spend two nights in the Shepherds Hut as a couple. Lovely secluded location, very private and the Hut contained everything and more you would need. The attention to detail inside was amazing and the views outside were simply stunning. The owners were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had a great stay. The surrounding area is also very beautiful and great for walking, which we did whilst we were there. if you like the idea of a 'get away from it all' place, we would thoroughly recommend. We felt so relaxed and comfortable there, it was hard to tear ourselves away and we will definitely be back.
The two nights that we spent in Dimpsey were just wonderful. The attention to detail is brilliant. We loved finding the hot chocolate corner and a box of Christmas decorations to decorate the little wooden tree. There was a chess board, dominoes, colouring book, playing cards and plenty of magazines to choose from. The double bed was extremely comfortable as was the bench which served perfectly for a cheeky afternoon nap, wrapped up in the blankets provided, with the log burner blazing, perfect! Everything was perfect from the minute we arrived and found mince pies, gorgeous tomato and basil bread, chocolates, bacon, eggs and milk waiting for us, the wood burner was lit and the radio was playing. The kitchen was fully equipped, good sized fridge, as was the bathroom, lovely hot shower, and we really enjoyed cooking on the garden oven and just sitting and watching the fire and the stars. This is perfect if you want to escape for a couple of days and just sit and listen to nothing as you sip your hot chocolate (or wine). Really did not want to leave and we will certainly return.
My wife had booked a surprise weekend away from London for my birthday, and she couldn't have picked a better spot than the Dimpsey shepherd's hut.
We took a direct train from Waterloo Station to Crewkerne, where Emma picked us up. From there it was just a short ride to the farm.
When we arrived the fire was on and the hut was warm and toasty, the music was playing and wasn't long until our pies arrived fresh from the oven (we had pre-ordered these).
The Hut itself looked spotless (brand new was a term I think I used) and very well decorated. There is a wide range of cool magazines and board games to keep entertained. Not that you'll need them, as just looking outside and dreaming away does the trick pretty well too.
Breakfast was delicious too (with sausages and bacon from the farm!) and it the well equipped kitchen it was easy to prepare everything.
During our weekend, we've been for various walks, had lunches at the Candlelight Inn pub (only a mile away) and prepared a delicious meal in the outside oven.
Emma even made time to drop us off at the train station on our return!
As it says in the title: Best birthday weekend ever! Thanks Emma and Andrew for making it possible. Oh, and thanks to my wife too, for finding them in the first place :)
