“Fantastic staff, hotel,grounds and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

Just returned from a lovely weekends stay at the Hornsbury Mill in Chard. The hotel is set in lovely, scenic grounds. The hotel is quaint. The food and service is of a very high standard, but what was exceptional was how lovely the staff were. Fantastic customer service and friendliness. Will definitely be going back!!

To be honest I am not one to write reviews but this weekend we stayed at Hornsbury Mill where I was speaking at a Trafalgar Night Dinner. We were struck by the fantastic welcome we received and the subsequent first class service. We stayed overnight in a great room and were joined by my elderly parents, mother-in-law and 5 year old twins for Sunday lunch the following day. Throughout our stay we enjoyed fresh, well cooked meals and I thought the final bill very reasonable. A great place to stay which I would certainly recommend.

we had been here many times before for a Sunday lunch and found it very good however this time the food was terrible both the beef and the turkey were dried out and tough also only one slice of each vegetables were either over cooked or under cooked minuscule portion of cauliflower cheese offered for four people the starters were no better soup was cold and salmon almost lost under a pile of salad leaves we had no wine and the bill was nearly £80 !! when my father complained on the day the member of staff seemed uninterested and could mealy manage as an excuse that the chef was an apprentice which to all of us was quit apparent !!

Stayed here for one night and had a great night sleep. Dinner was good with a fair selection, and the bar had a good range of drinks. Breakfast again was very good, very fresh. Gt woken up by peacocks which was nice in a way. No mobile phone reception but they have wifi.

Wedding Venue
My husband and I recently got married here and had the most fabulous day. We initially chose the venue due to their flexibility with the ideas we had for our day and the gorgeous corn loft as a back up ceremony room should it rain, at all the other venues we saw the alternative was simply a hotel room the corn loft has fabulous features. We had visited many other venues in the area with the criteria of an outdoor ceremony and found that they were not happy to accommodate or compromise away from the normal weddings they do. Hornsbury Mill were happy for us to bring our own ideas and they would find a way that it could work we had ribbons and fairy lights everywhere for our festival theme and decorated the marquee in Greek paraphernalia..

Food
The chef was fabulous and cooked us a Greek Buffet which had great reviews from all our guests and the homemade ice-cream is out of this world I have not found anything like it since. We also visited for lunches previous to the day to discuss various ideas and I highly recommend the Burgers and the Roast Dinner.

The Staff
Chloe our wedding organiser made the whole day a smooth process from the initial organisation to the day itself I truly believe that our wedding day would not have been anywhere near as amazing without the laid back yet excited approach to our ideas. The rest of the staff were more than accommodating throughout the weekend to all our guests.

Rooms
Every room is gorgeous and quirky, the Bridal suite is fantastic for getting ready there is a full sitting room with sofas to chill before that walk down the isle (with a glass of champagne of course).

I will always pop in for lunch or a cream tea when passing and will probably use this venue for all our future events...we are trying to find an excuse to do it all over again...is a year to short to renew your vows??

We recently got married here, and our choice was superb. The venue speaks for itself, it's beautiful, but add to that the relaxed atmosphere with first class service and faultless food and you have Hornsbury Mill. We have had guest after guest come and praise the whole day, saying they have never been to such an amazing wedding and this is down to the smooth running of the day when Chloe and her fellow staff made it look effortless. The evening before, a large party joined in at a murder mystery, slept well and ate an amazing breakfast, and on the morning after the wedding, even though they had many booked in for Sunday lunch, they served teas and helped our guests leave, never did we feel pushed away or rushed. We highly recommend the mill, and thank them for helping us celebrate our special day xxx

Room Tip: The suite is amazing and room 5 is divine but you won't be disappointed anywhere.
