What a find! for a last minute break i chose the Hornsbury Mill at random and what a pleasant surprise. Beautiful setting and grounds, staff very friendly and effecient and the hotel was very lovely. We got upgraded to the suite (Thanks) and the bed was so comfortable and room very well appointed. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good good serving locally sourced produce....but breakfast.... have the full english the sausage and bacon was great. Take a moment to walk around the mill pond, very pretty but watch out for the ducks and peacocks.

spur of the moment decision, and not far for us to travel, friendly staff, if i had a complaint it would be that staff are hard to find if you want bar service, but compared to the rest of the stay, i didnt feel that was really hard to put up with, the food was amazing, prompt, hot, freshly cooked to order and well presented, likewise the breakfast, the room was spotless, the bed comfortable, i wouldnt hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone

We booked this hotel by chance on the internet when looking for a stop over after a funeral. What a brilliant find - the staff were so friendly from the time we walked in the door. The setting is beautiful, the grounds are so well kept and the ducks, swans and peacocks are a lovely added attraction around the lake, where we sat in the sunshine for pre-dinner drinks. Our meal in the restaurant was extremely good and our room was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast again was excellent and everything was cooked to order. Would definately visit this hotel again if in the area. (Only marked sleep quality down one as the male peacock did his best to wake everyone at 4.30 a.m.)

We stayed, during a quiet period after what wasa busy half term week, according to staff, in The Crown Wheel Suite which turned out to be a "proper Suite" - a separate Sitting Room as opposed to a sofa next to the bed! Very spacious and clean with serious character in the shape of the original Grinding Stone and other Equipment displayed, behind glass, in the sitting room! Unfortunately the Water Wheel was having a rest on the day we stayed .
The Mill has enormous character and has been sympathetically renovated. The Grounds and Wild Life are Beautiful.
Staff were very friendly and attentive to us and the enviroment - the morning feeding of the Swan Family, Ducks and Peacocks was a joy to watch. Dinner and Breakfast, for us was seriously good, too!
Our only, but quite relevant concern was that The Mattress on our Bed was Extremely Uncomfortable - dipping toward the middle. We did advise Reception, on checking out but felt that the response of "oh, it might need Turning or Something" was inadequate - it needs Replacing!
We really enjoyed our stay and would return But only if The Mattress had been replaced. A Good Nights Sleep is Important....

We stayed at the Mill for one night last weekend and just wanted to thank the staff for such a lovely and relaxing stay. The Mill is set in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings, with a lake and a stream right outside your window. There are ducks, swans and peacocks wandering at leisure and the sound of the waterfeature could be heard from our room. The evening meal was second to none, generous portions and absoulutely delicious. The full english breakfast, the same.....fantastic. The only critisicm would be our sloping bedroom floor. Being a 14th century Mill, the floor sloped to a degree and so did our bed slightly. Things like this are to be expected in such an old establishment so we cannot complain......Thank you again to the staff who were so friendly, we hope to come back at some point as it was great value and we left feeling totally relaxed but wanting to stay another night....Emma and Jim (Medrow)

This is a fantastic place to stay. I am always made to feel welcome. Very comfortable rooms, fantastic food and a very friendly team. I couldn't want for anything more when I stay away from home on business each week.

My husband and I stayed here just for one night last weekend. The hotel is located outside Chard and we could not have wished for a nicer location. The lady who seemed to be in charge was so friendly and helpful, she was a real delight. We were disappointed with the food in the restaurant however and felt it was overpriced for the quality. My salmon was overcooked and the risotto undercooked and the dessert, orange and contreau tart, was really just a gooey mess in pastry. We felt it would have been better to have been offered a simpler menu at lower prices.

The room was really lovely and very characterful. We have marked the mill down for sleep quality as we were awoken by the plumbing gurgling about 6 in the morning as had been reported by other guests, but this really was not a huge issue and we soon dozed off again.

Will certainly stay there again despite the food. We may have just been unlucky and visited whilst the regular chef was on holiday.
