“What a wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel which is run by Warners. There were 4 of us and we had such a wonderful time and plenty of laughter. The Hotel building has much history, the grounds are 160 acres, very scenic and lovely to walk around. The food was very good and the entertainment was the best I have seen in ages. I have been to a couple of the Warners Hotels in the UK but I would highly recommend Cricket St Thomas. The staff are very attentive and make the holiday even more enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyable stay, came home very relaxed.

Room Tip: Signature rooms are on the ground floor with patios and based in the courtyards. They have been mode...

I recently returned from a four day break at this Warner Hotel. My wife and I have been to most of them and have enjoyed the visits, However, occasionally we are surprised, and Cricket St Thomas did that for us. The entertainment was excellent, the food very nice, the accomadation excellent and the gardens were marvelous. Not only that there's plenty to see in that part of the world. Brilliant place to go and enjoy oneself.

Room Tip: if you fancy something a bit special best book early.

To celebrate my 60th birthday, my wife and I stayed here for a 4 night break. We took advantage of a half price offer, so we upgraded to the most expensive Historic Suite (well it was my 60th!). We were not disappointed. The room was absolutely fantastic - the biggest and most impressive I have ever stayed in (but I would never have been able to afford it at full price!). Situated in the old mansion, the room was accessed via a sweeping stone staircase and had marvelous views from two large windows.
The food, though not the best we have had at a Warners hotel, was good but with limited choice. The Treetops restaurant was crammed with tables and chairs and on certain occasions getting back to our table carrying hot plates was quite a challenge.
Fenocchi's restaurant, included with our room, was absolutely marvelous. It provided excellent food and service with a nice ambience.
Because of the layout of the hotel, it can be a long trek to certain parts. The old house is situated at one end of the complex and the leisure area and Fenocchi's restaurant are situated at the other. Wherever your room is, you are going to be quite a distance from some part of the hotel.
All in all, a thoroughly good holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms in the old house are very quiet, but no lifts. If Fenocchi's restaurant is not included i...

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Cricket. We stayed in a Signature room in the walled garden area, ground floor so the ducks "knocked" on the patio door in the mornings! The weather was fabulous for the whole of our stay, which made it even more enjoyable. Lovely room with a fridge - we took our own wine and some soft drinks, so we were able to keep them nicely chilled. It was great to return after a day out and be able to sit and "chill" before changing for dinner.
The room had everything we needed - comfy bed, decent sized towels and a large tv, although the Freeview reception leaves a bit to be desired. There was also a DAB digital radio, but no user instructions, so the alarm went off at the same time every morning because we couldn't work out how to switch it off!!!
We ate in Treetops restaurant at a different table each mealtime. The tables are fairly close together so not much "wriggle" room. I appreciate that a lot of people are being catered for, but it gets a bit difficult when you go to the buffet and return with a very HOT plate of food. The breakfasts were very good, evening meals a bit more average. We ate in the Italian on our last night (for a £10 per person supplement) and thought it was quite nice, but not spectacular.
The evening entertainment was fairly good and the singing was of a pretty good standard. Neil has an amazing voice - shame he felt the need to try to be funny in the later session in the balcony bar. Stick to the great singing Neil and then guests might feel incined to linger a bit longer instead of hurrying off to bed. Monday night's comedian was excellent - sorry can't remember his name!
Our room was near to leisure club and we used the pool/sauna/steam room every day. It was never over full and everyone seemed to think the pool was very nice. shame the jacuzzi has been filled in!
The grounds are really beautiful and very well maintained. Lots of areas to walk and a lovely little church in the middle.
The staff were all very pleasant, polite and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean.
All in all a great place to stay, especially if you're looking for peace and quiet (no children) and are probably of slightly more mature years!
Great location for visiting the Jurassic Coast - fabulous!

Room Tip: Ground floor in the walled garden is handy for the swimming pool and the Italian restaurant. A bit o...

Fantastic place in beautiful settings with good ameneties. room was lovely with large comfy bed and lovely and quiet at night. entertainment good although the dancing would be more suited to the older person. food average but good for the money.

Room Tip: if you are a smoker ask for a ground floor room!

Lovely hotel stay with comfortable clean signature room. Very helpful and friendly staff. We enjoyed being near to the pool and did not mind the walk to the restuarant most of which is by a covered corridor anyway. Our room did not include robes but these coule be hired for 5 for the weekend (each) and thn we could nip back from the pool and get showered and changed in our room.
Breakfast was very good but dinner was a bit 'mass catering' which it was of course.
Enjoyed the archery and rifle shooting with helpful staff.
Lovely peaceful rural location.

Room Tip: One tip is to leave your luggage in the car until you have checked in and found where you room is as...

Meeting with friends who live near this fabulous property we celebrated a birthday meal in the Italian restaurant. What a lovely surprise. The service was simply superb and the food exceptionally pleasant and "a bit different" in the nicest possible way. A very thoughtful menu with something for everyone on it with a good wide price range. The building the restaurant is in is unique and tables set well part so plenty of space to relax in.

It really was a lovely evening. Not overly expensive and we were invited to visit the in house theater afterwards to watch the cabaret which we did. It was packed, which must be great for the entertainers to play to a full house.

Judging from the car park the hotel must have been full which meant everything was well supported from the dining room we were in to the theatre which meant the atmosphere was alive - which for a wet Wednesday in March is saying something.

Having known Cricket for many years and watched its progress from Wild Life Park to the manoiral/stately home on the TV series To the Manor Born and now to a Warners Hotel has been fascinating.

Obviously extremely well managed in every way and great customer service from charming young people and those whom happily engaged in conversation with us were not only exceptionally pleasant but we were pleased to note were all local too. Well done.

In the summer we occasionally visit the main manor house terrace bar that leads out on the terrace/gardens overlooking the boules/bowls. Simply superb views down over the grounds which on a balmy summers night with a G&T in hand is hard to beat.
