We had a very good relaxed holiday, after been given a voucher for our Golden Wedding. Chard was our nearest hotel, and it had something to suit everyone, whatever your taste. We used the indoor swimming pool with excellent facilities. The entertainment on the evenings were very good, and the meals were delicious and a good choice. The staff were very friendly and always found time to speak to you. The bedrooms were very comfortable, cleaned every day. Coffees and light snacks were also available during the day and ofcourse no children !!!!

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room just off reception very convenient for us, and very quiet.

Stopped off in our motor home for a break and stretch ours and the dogs legs just by chance we spotted the brown tourist sign.
Big car park which was approached by a long spiral downhill road with sheep in fields either side.
Staff very friendly when I asked directions to acres of wonderful gardens and lakes with littles waterfalls cascading down over slates and boulders .Church well worth a visit in the grounds.
Seats situated along the route to take it easy,,lots to photograph.

I have given the property 3 stars mainly for the grounds and the bedroom. Other than that, this is the most disappointing Warners we have ever been to. Where to start? The 4 of us as friends have been going to different Warners for the past few years. As repeat customers we are fully aware of the importance of ensuring the bookings for particular rooms are confirmed prior to arrival. This time, as we were celebrating my birthday, we had been assured that we had 1 Contemporary Royale room with a sleigh bed and 1 with a four poster - didn't happen. The receptionist on check in was asked which room was which and had no clue. She looked at a sheet of paper and said 'Mmmm' - and very little else. In addition, one room had been charged at £402 and 1 at £392. When asked why, there was no reason but the only way to get a refund was to open a charge card and then they would deduct £10 off the bill at the end of our stay - eh???Anyway off we went and found the rooms. The first one we went to had the sleigh bed so we settled our bags down and went off to find the next one. No 4 poster and definitely smaller than the 1st room. My friend will be writing her own review so I won't dwell on this.

The walk from reception to the rooms was like a trek. There were signs that there were renovations being completed but the floor looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner for days. Add to that the cobweb that was in our room from arrival until departure, this hotel needs some training in the art of customer satisfaction. There is a card in the rooms that asks for feedback on the room. I completed this (re the cobweb) on arrival but it made no difference. One of the flush buttons on our lavatory was broken and also the door handle was broken. The room was not properly cleaned the entire time we were there. At £400 for 2 nights this is certainly not up to standard.

And so to dinner. To say the tables are close together is an understatement. Throughout our stay we heard all about our neighbours' ailments, including those of his 'waterworks' - how delightful. The first thing that we saw on entering the dining room was a huge sign for Cadburys Smash hanging over the serving area - really???? I know that a lot of the guests are elderly but they do still have teeth and tastebuds. Anyway, giving the Smash a wide berth I went for the roast potatoes. Aunty Bessie would have field day with these. Frozen rubbish that, once again, were totally tasteless. The lamb was cooked nicely though and the vegs were passable. Half way through dinner the lights flickered and went out, but only over our part of the dining room. On asking the waiter if they would be back on we were told, 'Don't know'.

After dinner we went out to the bar area to enjoy a drink. No hope of getting a seat here trust me. Tiny bar with such a small seating area. Not enough seating to satisfy an eighth of the number of the guests. On asking at the bar whether there was anywhere else we could sit we were told to walk to the other end of the hotel - get your hiking boots on for this one - where there was another bar. This turned out to be the Historic part of the property. Plenty of seats but oh so dour.

Good sleep quality with comfortable beds/pillows.

Breakfast conducted still in the twilight - lights still not working. On our way out of the restaurant I asked the duty manager if they would be fixed by the evening and, if not, could we have an alternative table where we could actually see each other. Response from her?? 'Well let's play it by ear shall we?' Patronising to say the least.

Dinner the second night still had the swinging Smash sign so we didn't have any potatoes. Beef was very nicely cooked but gravy totally tasteless. As the choice was beef or turkey, why only one pan of bland gravy that could have been anything? As the waiter was just standing by his station my husband asked him if he was bored. A grunt came back telling us he was. Poor thing. Maybe if he was given some support with some training he might be happier.

There is entertainment available if you wish and some of the team had really good voices and worked hard. The swimming pool has no Jacuzzi as do other Warners. The gardens are lovely for walking around and I'm sure will look stunning when everything starts to bloom. Location is perfect for exploring. Lyme Regis a stone's throw away. It's pretty and has a nice harbour with some great restaurants and coffee shops.

My friend did have a conversation with the Duty Manager before we left. We'll wait to see what response he sends her. All in all, a very disappointing visit. We have to be 4 of the easiest going people who visit Warners and we have never had cause to complain before. Sorry Cricket St Thomas, we cannot recommend you at all as we have done for others.

We have been to many Warner hotels but this was the most disappointing of them and certainly wouldn't return. Very limited seating area at the bar for the number of guests, rooms were not regularly cleaned and the walk from our room to the restaurant was far too long for the many guests with limited mobility. Staff were not that helpful or friendly and it did not live up to the experience you expect from a Warners hotel.
We paid for and expected a room with a 4 poster bed and seating area, in fact we had a very mediocre room with two chairs. When we complained to staff, it was a "tough" response. Some do, some don't. So disappointing.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying extra because you won't get it and be prepared to walk miles around the...

Just back from a long weekend at this hotel in stunning grounds which my children treated me to for my birthday.
Everything about the place was very good with young staff who did a great job and were always pleasant.
Entertainment of some type was on the go everyday if you wished and the restaurant served very good food when you consider how many people were there.
It was very busy but as the place is large and the grounds are about 30 acres you never noticed the crowds.
It seems very set up to help disabled guests with many ramps and as there were quite a few guests in either wheel chairs or the electric movers it must have been so helpful to them.

A great weekend break

Room Tip: 'Walled garden' rooms are in a quiet area and the ground floor rooms all opened onto a priva...
