“The Lordleaze”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

This is now the second time we have spent a weekend here as guests at a party. We thoroughly enjoyed the parties and this was in no little part due to the efforts of the proprieter, the family and staff. The room we had this time was comfortable, the food was excellent and the bar outlasted my stamina both nights.

Room Tip: Personally prefer the rooms in the extension rather than the original pert of the house.

Just returned from a two night break which was fantastic. The Owen family are charming and do everything possible to make your stay happy. The food is delicious, the rooms are spotless and the bar is just an enjoyable place to be.

We took advantage of a KJB deal as part of our trip around the West Country - it included one Dinner over our 2 night stay.

On arrival, the reception we received was first class and the Dinner Deal explained to us over a pleasant drink at the Bar.

The Manager and all his staff were exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - would certainly stay here again, if holidaying in this part of England.

Room Tip: Just ask the Manager!

We booked the family room for a one night stay as we were going to an afternoon wedding elsewhere. The family room had a lovely spacious bathroom, although the family room itself was a bit of a cluttered mix of different woods and styles with black ash-style bunk beds, pine mirrors and cherry wood for the other furniture. It seemed expensive for the price. As we left, we peeked in open double rooms and they looked more harmonious. The main problem was that there was a very noisy wedding reception downstairs with lots of shouted countdowns (drinking competitions? bumps?). We were ready for bed at 10.30pm, but the noise went on until midnight.

The breakfast was good - not a huge choice of cooked breakfast items for my partner or children (eg no baked beans), but premium Dorset Cereals and a fresh fruit salad that contained melon balls and strawberries kept me very satisfied.

Room Tip: The photos on a well-known booking site are out of date as the furniture has been rearranged and the...

The reviews below are from the wedding that was on when you stayed so we are sorry but it was unusually loud around 10.00 in the evening. Not sure what bumps is ? All wedding entertainment ends at midnight and the Hotel resumes its peaceful tranquility for all other guests..
Breakfast can be whatever you ask for - we have Baked Beans , Fried Bread , chips ... in addition to what is on the menu so please ask the waitress when you are ordering! but glad that you enjoyed what you had.

We had our wedding reception at the Lordleaze hotel last weekend and absoluely loved every part of it! The hotel staff were very amenable to all of our requests and accommodated the needs of our guests very well. We were lucky enough to have sunshine for most of the day which allowed us to make the most of all the outside space at the hotel and take advantage of some great photo opportunities. We've had excellent feedback from guests about the food, how helpful the staff were and the venue in general. Thank you for an amzing day, with a relaxed atmosphere, great food and overall some fantastic memories!!

I stayed at the hotel this weekend for my best friends wedding and had a great time.

The hotel isnt exactly modern but it was clean, tidy and very welcoming. Yes it was a little strange driving through a housing estate ( i agree it was not a council estate!) but its just a road, you tend to drive down them to get places!

The food we had as part of the wedding was delicious and even though most hotels tend to charge the earth for drinks i found it actually really reasonable.

The staff were all really friendly specially Sheila, Robin and the younger guy with red hair!

I have to agree that the room rates were a little high compared with other hotels of a similar standard but if there was a special offer on or a reduction in rates I would definitely return to the hotel again.

In reference to the review suggesting that to arrive at the Lordleaze hotel you have to go through a disgusting council estate, I am a resident of the road leading to the hotel. All the houses on the road down to the Lordleaze are 3-4 bedroom detached modern and privately owned. I am not from Chard by birth but I would much rather bring my kids up in this quiet rural town than the cess pit that is Bristol. I suggest the reviewer may have been happier in a travelodge with no character in the middle of a concrete jungle.
