“Poor Service Standards”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at Little Sossus Lodge for 2 nights of our honeymoon. We were lodged there as part of our safari tour by another company but we went for the sossusvlei dune tour with them. On a positive note, the rooms were comfortable and the dinners served were pretty good. However, we were rather shocked that there was no lunch provided at the lodge at 1:30pm after we had returned from a long tour at the dunes in the morning and were only given a meagre sandwich, some peanuts and a fruit for "brunch". In addition, we were also slightly disappointed that a prior promise from the staff to keep the bar open for the World Cup screenings was not honored, and the owner was not in the least apologetic about it. The service standards can definitely be improved for a much more pleasant stay.

We stayed at the lodge for two nights and it was amazing! The service was great, the food very tasty and you always had the feeling that it was the most important thing for the whole staff to make our stay unforgettable.

We booked the guided sunset tour as well as the guided Sossusvlei tour, which both were worth every cent we paid. Even an extra tour to one of the neighboring lodges was arranged so that we could see cheetahs.

Overall very nice stay. Always again!

Although everything at this lodge is simple, the hospitality will blow you away. We were lucky to have the peace and quiet for ourselves for 2 days as we were the only guests. We had a private 8 hour tour of the breath taking Sossusvlei by Little Sossus Lodge own private guide, Seven. He was very informative and made this visit extra special. Food was very good and very well presented. Clean, but simple rooms.

We stayed at Little Sossus Lodge based on the good reviews on Tripadvisor and it was one of the few disappointments in a 6,500km trip from Cape Town to the Angolan border. The bar and dining area are ugly, gloomy, badly decorated and quite frankly run down, the pool's the size of a birdbath and the garden furniture's made out of bits of scrap metal and plastic and was uncomfortable and unclean.
The rooms are comfortable but pretty basic and built in a way that doesn't enhance the beautiful landscapes surrounding this area. In need of maintenance and care. Our first room leaked badly in a storm, lost electricity and we sat in a flood in the dark until after some time we were moved to a room with light and no leaks. The Namibian staff were a complete delight and very, very helpful but I understood somewhat exploited regarding hours and days off. The owner was helpful about getting to Sossus vlei but he seemed to think that by saying 'in the desert anything can happen' excused all the failings. The food was surprisingly good. None of the down side would have mattered except for the price of the accommodation and extras. This was by far one of the least attractive places and run down places we stayed and one of the most expensive. Mostly it caters for groups of Germans and others and I feel is exploitative. Do not recommend

We decided to stay at Little Sossus Lodge over Christmas based on the number of favourable "family" reviews it had received on TripAdvisor. So here are a couple of observations if you are traveling with younger children (under 12 years of age).
You cannot get meals for your kids during the day. An afternoon snack of a toasted sandwich for another couple traveling with their children was only possible after much fuss.
Children are charged at 50 percent of the adult dinner price, but at NAD130, for a plate of food which tended not to be cooked with "young" taste buds in mind this tends to be a waste and therefore expensive.
Additionally, there is one set plated menu and therefore no choice of food is offered. (note: there is nowhere else in the immediate vicinity for dinner and therefore travelers are a captive audience).
The rooms do not have their own tea / coffee making facilities and boiling water must be requested from the kitchen if required (for example: to make babies bottle etc).
Rooms are not air conditioned and are therefore extremely hot in summer!

Based on our less than favourable experience compared to that of other Trip Advisor reviewers I can only put the difference down to the age of the traveling party. I can understand why Little Sossus Lodge would be well positioned to receive tour groups and families with teenage or older children, but in my opinion if you have a younger family give it a miss.

Stayed at lodge for four days and was absolutely blown away by the hospitality of the people at the lodge. The whole place has a aura of pure calm and relaxation. The food was five star quality and the friendliness of the staff was overwhelming. It is very difficult to find any negatives and the only one was that the beds had a lot of dust under them which made the room a bit dusty should someone with asma stay there. On the other hand, it is in the desert. Will most certainly go back again.

Room Tip: They are all beAutifully situated.

When we entered the Lodge, the very friendly and helpful owner explained that we could easily drive ourselves in the rented HiLux to deadvlei. He told us to use the 4*4, and explained how to drive on the sand.  It was great fun. (we were very impressed by someone telling us not to take his tour). The on site dinner was a fixed 4 course meal, which one day was perfect, and the other day not much to my liking, but my wife die like it. Breakfast packs can be prepared in stead of the buffet breakfast. Internet was very unreliable, only sufficient for email. We had a very plesant stay, due to the very laid back atmosphere. (at night the room is cool enough to sleep without A.C)
